  • Hi, this is a great video about Rosie, shes a really great story teller! I am studing African American history in college and was wondering could you tell me what part of America Rosie was living in during her time on the farm she speaks about in this video? Thanks!

  • @SarahClairee Hello Sarah, Nice to hear from you. Ms. Rose will be celebrated her 96th birthday about three weeks ago. She is spending a great deal of time telling her Great & Great Great grandchildren about their Ancestors.

Ms Rose was born and raised just miles from where she lives now--in a rural part of Onslow County, southeastern North Carolina. She is the Grandaughter of Danial & Martha Fisher--who were Former Slaves from the same area of town where Ms. Rose was raised. Thanks you

  • @Historian1812 Thanks very much for that Jack. Wow! 96 is a great age! Best wishes to both you and Rose. Thanks again!

  • thank you..and all the best for the lady

  • GOD BLESS HER. SHE LOOKS SO SWEET! SHE MAKES ME SMILE :)

  • what an interesting dialect

  • @mbradley111 Thank you for your kind words. Ms. Rose often talks about her life, expecially her early years when her Grandma & Former Slave Martha Fisher, told her stories of how the "Yankees" came to the plantation. Ms. Rose, now heading to 96 yrs. young, is doing well.

  • My mother is originally from Waycross Georgia! She moved to New York in the late 50's. She never lost her dialect! Most people could not understand her. She would often be confused as West Indian! Now that I am an adult, I am interested in knowing exactly was a Geechee is and what the culture is! My mom has told the same story as Ms Ruffin

  • @Angelscnbsexi2 Thank you for such kind words and sharing them. I should be visiting Ms. Rose this week and I will relay you comments to her. Rose is doing well, age 95, and is taking a great deal of time holding and sharing her family stories to her newest G-g-g grandson.

  • Shes pretty!

  • @ctholder79 I will pass along your message to Ms. Rose.

  • That is amazing!

  • Wow , 93. Same age as my grand ma . She used to tell me stories like that . I think those people were healthier back then, because they grew their own food, no pestisides , no preservatives, no growth hormones in the meat. Raw honey out the hive, fresh milk out the cow, fresh orange juice, fresh eggs. And black women were actually married, instead of having babies out of wedlock like today so kids had dads. Other than racism , it seemed like a good life for blacks.

  • awww, she sounds like my grandma'

  • @Jamaari20 Hello, thank you for your comments pertaining to Ms. Rose. She is doing fine and is telling her stories to her newest G-G-Grandson. God Bless, Jack

  • she so beautiful i love to hear storie about my family special my grandmother she had 4 sets of twin atl ga

  • @gogocartoon11 Hello, great to hear from you and to receive your nice comments. Your grandmother's oral histories must be very interesting. I would love to hear some of them.

    Best wishes,

    Jack

  • Great footage !

  • Oh my goodness how fabulous this was to hear Mother Rose speaking! She sounds so clear and strong. This is priceless. This is beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing this. I am a Geechee girl to the bone. Geechee now. Geechee always!

  • @nessa1063 Hello. . .Thank you for your wonderful comments. Ms. Rose is a major influence in my life since I have known her. I will be seeing her next week and I will print your note and let her read it. She will be thrilled.

    Best wishes,

  • Whitey still owes Africa!!!!!!!!!!! They can never pay back so they turn it to slave trade instead of slave raid. If it was done internally, how come Africans only got independence in 1960? If they were business partners with the Europeans, will they need independence? No!!! The Europeans came killed raped, raided families and decided to call it slave trade? Maybe between themselves yeah!!! They still owe me and they'll pay in full.

  • You know what... you know the only people that i EVER hear go on about race.... EVER!??!? Fucking black people! So shut the fuck up with your racist, hypercritical, anti-white, fucking bullshit and remove your head from your behind you narrow minded cunt!

  • Did the truth hurt someone?

  • yeah of course because i run the slave trade! what a cock

  • Your people did and now they are trying to paint a picture perfect beings that comes from Europe. Talk of hypocrisy.!! Don't get mad just pay me retribution by recognizing my humanity and stop writing me off human history as if my history started with slavery.

  • Who the hell are "my people"?! You dick! WHat the hell are you on?! "writing me off as if my history started with slavery"?!? I couldnt give 2 flying fucks about "your" history! I dont understand people like you. tell me this.. what is it you want??? Equality or black supremacy??? People in my country make so much effort not to offend black people, to a ludicrous extent, we arent meant to say fucking black coffea! But "you" still hound us!

  • calling us racist! Like a stuck fucking record, you dont want to be a stereotype but you ARE, your stereotype is self obsession! ALLLLWAYS going on about you coulor. Allways going on about slavery! To be fucking honest to blame ME for slavery... i mean.... GET A FUCKING GRIP! I wasnt born for centuries after it was abolished! How about this! I go back in time??!?! Will that satisfy you!??!?

  • Ill make it not happen!!! YEAH what a plan!!! But ultimatley You wont be happy untill the black nazi party rule the world. Stupid STUPID man! Hypercrit personified. Now fuck off, i wont read your biggoted reply.

  • Why won't I be proud of my colour? You folks hate Black skin colour like it's a disease or something. Even to the extent of naming calling black skin a curse according to your Unholy book (Bible). So it's only right that I make myself proud of my nature and natural features. I don't want no black supremacy poo, I want recognition. If you don't want to be blamed for what your ancestors did, then don't enjoy the fruit of their evil deeds. Europe is still enjoying the fruit of slavery/Colonization

  • I don't want to rule the world. That's a egomaniac mentality. I want equality and recognition. I meant Europeans when I said your people. Your country try what to not offend who? Pleeease. When you Europeans had a conference amongst you Europeans to discuss how you going to share what doesn't belong to you (Africa and Africans), That is nothing but pure injustice and ignorance at their highest levels. I don't hate white people but I don't trust them either. KKgays are still lurking looking for U

  • @ballymo85 You have been getting your retribution for years! Its called affirmative action, food stamps, etc......

  • Further elaborate or your foolish comment white man, if you dare !!!

  • No need to elaborate any further. You know exactly what I'm talking about. I will say this, the man that keeps crying wolf will never be taken seriously.

  • The wolf thing is true.

Actually, I was talking about your agenda and undercover ignorance behind your comment .

You know exactly what i'm talking about !!

  • I believe and forgive you .

  • Nobody owes you anything my brother .

If someone did, it would be our ancestry for not following our lord The Most High Yah .

Had they been listening, we wouldn't be in this foul western world today .

White people will not change so it is up to us to .

It must be hard to walk around with all that "They owe us" baggage .

  • thank you for posting this. very informative!

  • thank you so much for posting this video. I only wish that I had done recorded the stories of my great aunts and uncles and done the same. thanks so much, and God bless! It's such a good feeling to know that their stories have been penned and can be remembered as well as respected by future generations. please send my thanks and well wishes to Miss Rose!!

  • Hello, Chicagobuilt

You made a extremely unique comment pertaining to Miss. Rose. I will leave your comments posted, show them to Miss Rose, and allow others who have or will make comments on this special lady to read.

Miss Rose often comments how her Grandparents, former Slaves, made her understand that everyone need thier rights and freedoms, to speak & express their opinions and allowed to be live freely...I hope you enjoyed the true value of this past weekend...with respect, Jack

  • absolutely beautiful!

  • america is in trouble now because of something someone messed up now, they want to tax the indians and tax non indians for smokes on the reservation its not the indians problem because they f up its their problem and they should be the ones that fix it not the indians.

  • This is why I voted. History means so much to me. Change is here!!!!

  • That is one incredible lady and what a smile i must say india has great respect for all victims of slavery. WHite prosperity would not happen without if black not working on the farm from tabbocco to cotton.

Now the next civil right movement i feel will be native americans who are still in reservation and there time wont be long.

  • Hello Chetansingh2006

Thank you for your comments. We should all learn about the "whole" history and then teach our next generation.

    Best wishes,

    Jack

  • Not all whites owned slaves, and slavery would not have been possible without the black-run slave trade in Africa itself. BTW, it wasn't only blacks who where enslaved in USA- whites were, too.

  • Slavery was not totally the fault of Africa.the

Portuguese and dutch went into Africa with guns and canons started protracted wars with Africas interior tribes. All Africans would not allow their people to be taken way by any strangers showing up at the door. the euros won the wars - the result was enslavement by the victors. the purpose of the enchroachment by the euros were to get laborers for the americas by any means necessary.

  • Does it matter what colour was at fault? Slavery is an abomination still practised in Africa, by blacks and Arabs. My point is that white people were not solely responsible for these atrocities, and were victims, too. Are you aware that some slave captains murdered their (white) crew men who refused to participate?

  • Correction...they were solely responsible. "isms" are only practiced by those in power. Unfortunately, most of the ones in power in antiquity and now are bigots and if they are victims.. it is of their own demons.

  • They were killed because they refused to comply with the slave law, and yes it does matter what color they are because these snakes will smile in your face and stab you in the back.....

  • Black run slave trade.....

Let there be known that there is and always will be a tremendous distinction between African societal slavery and American chattel slavery. In Africa, it was more of indentured servitude and to pay off debts. Prisoners of war could buy their freedom as well as inter marry in the family they worked for. Race was never a factor, nor did it catapult anything like racial hatred and definitely did not foster any Jim Crow laws much like the South.

  • Yes the slave trade begin in Africa but the treatment of slaves is the horrifying and sadistic part. Slavery happened through out the world, the reason it's remembered in America was because of it's cruelty. Black people were treated worse than animals, it's estimated that over 2 million people died in the middle passage. That's genocide.

Slavery in America was centered around labor but also presenting black people as less than human and teaching the public to believe the same.

  • Do you really think white slaves were treated as bad? raped? tortured? There was no dehumanization with white slaves, it was about the work. It was 'known' that black people were less than whites and that is why they could be treated in such ways.

  • umm, the Irish Slaves (not indentured servants) were treated badly- in rare cases even worse! Why you ask? (and this is a fact) At one point Irish slaves were CHEAPER than African Slaves. INFACT- there used to be a saying that went " My Master is a great tyrant, he treats me as badly as if I was a common Irishman". What does that tell you? What?! You didn't read about this in School? Hmmm... I wonder why? Can't we at least both agree that Slavery SUCKS no matter what your race is.

  • nice hair

I am glad you enjoyed the videos I did with Rose. She is a remarkable lady. Her faith in God is strong.

If you have not done it, please review my other videos on my ongoing research on locating and documenting old African American Cemeteries within Onslow County.

I have been told that Onslow County, N.C. was a key area where some Gullah migrated to after the War Between the States.
