This is very beautiful and I am going to try to figure out what is going on here, but it is more of demonstration than a tutorial. Tutorial suggests actively teaching a topic through specific instructions with demonstrations.
How about we stop fighting about whether or not this is a tutorial and appreciate this artist's skill? Because, clearly, most of us here do not have this level of artistic skill. Jesus people...
Its true that he might not be explaining anything thought I rather like watching these kind of vids and learning from the artist in action rather then hear the artitst comment the same things teachers have said over and over.
Thought i'm more interested in how to get that color wheel on swatches
@LordMagtheridon You commented this awhile ago but i think he made that himself...i think he was just trying to make a makeshift version of the color wheel just by choosing different shades and putting them into a circle
@SuperSwend I don't think you got the point of my comment, when you said: "I only say the words in japanese and not what they mean in english" you ment that he wouldn't know, then I said: "Maybe he's just really smart." as in, he would know (don't ask me how, since that was not the point of My comment).
And no, that does not have anything to do with the tutorial.
why not tutorial? artist show using of colors, shadows, highlights...... it is tutorial, not for beginers but for people who knows photoshop functions
@SuperSwend id consider this a tute, shows the artists workflow and how he/she approaches coloring their work. It's much different from a language...anyone familiar with painting knowledge or knowledge with photoshop should be able to break this down, if you cant you should consider learning basics first (color theory, etc). This is a tutorial, just not a beginners one.
If I was Neo from the Matrix and had that plug in the back of my neck to allow me to learn many things really fast, including how to paint in photoshop, then yes this is a tutorial, but no, I am not Neo from the Matrix, so this is simply speed painting and I cannot keep up this this!!!
@Metalicalypse stop being so stupid, if u are an artist you can learn only by watching, i learned a lot from this "show" or "no-tutorial" cuz i put my ass on the chair, took my tablet and start practising some of this things...what a lazy assholes.
@sobredosisdeetv stop talking bulshit, you are the stupid one, hes referring to the use of a particular tool, not the concept or theory of color which artists share. with each medium or each specific tool, comes a new set of rules and this is NOT a tutorial.
@sobredosisdeetv Wowow kid, no need to be rude. And first, needing a tutorial does not make you less of an artist. Second, a speedpainting video is not equal to a tutorial. I'm glad to hear you don't need more than that, but some of us expect more from a video calling itself a tutorial. I mean, to the author, kudos on your skills dude, but labeling this as a tutorial just to get more views is cheap.
@velocidadedofiapo i didn't mean to be rude and i'm not saying that a tutorial makes you or not an artist. Actually, I read and watch a lot of tutorials, and i can say this my friend is a tutorial itself and you can learn a lot just viewing this (shading, iluminating, color scheme, textures, etc) I repeat: if u dont sit down and practise, and the only thing u want is a guy saying "do this, do that" you should go to an art school, there'll be people glad to say that.
um i know its a dumb question but what program is this and how did you draw your pic? it looks like you drew it but scanned but obviouse you drew it on the computer.... but how did you use Genius Pen tablet
The way people do it is draw something with pencil on a normal paper. Then they scan it and upload it to the program called Photoshop. Then they use the tablet to brush over the picture with colours.
This is a great help for mixed media work, though all but useless for those who are not already quite familiar with PS, in which case I'd imagine they'd already know it. However, if you like to use different traditional media, by themselves or together, this is a really nice reference video!
If you've got eyeballs and a brain, this is a solid tutorial. Sorry if you need your hand to be held, but this video offers a lot of great techniques. Stop whining and draw.
@littleulquiorra a better explanation that the one from your eyes could not exist .for me is very helpful just because i'm seeing the layers, and if you have a good sketch whit details and stuff like in this case it easier to draw/paint/coloring it. I'm not talking from experience because I'm just at the beginning " of my career" but i understand the process, and what a better way to learn then mimic :D . I hope this change the way you see this like a " speed shit"

@tempxanga A tutorial is in it's simplest form an interactive way to teach people; however tutorials come in many various forms. Often times people assume tutorials are always meant to be highly interactive as if a tutor was there giving them a teaching session. There are definite disagreements between professionals as to high descriptive and interactive tutorials "have to be."
You can attempt to insult my intelligence all you want, but it definitely doesn't add anything to your argument.
@koobs78 Good! :D Glad to hear it. PM me if you have any other questions. I'm still learning too, and I know how frustrating it is when the tutorials forget to give you a basic step like that. It took *forever* for me to figure it out too.
@koobs78 In photoshop, you can sometimes set your brush to different modes. "Multiply" or "Color" would be the best mode to use so your lineart shows through. You could also paint on a layer above the line art which is set to multiply or color. If you want the lineart to stay black, set the line art on a layer above the rest and put it on multiply. The rest of the layers below can remain in normal mode and will show up underneath it, like a coloring book. No need to remove the background. :D
@koobs78 well you can use a new layer on multiply ? i d know if that is how you write it and he is not painting underneath at the final stages he is painting on top of the line work .
Maybe it was like Artist: " This is a tutorial. " then lazy came in and said: " Nah! it's speed painting. " Artist: " Ok fine but I wont talk in this one. "
That is not the point. It is indeed a beautiful painting, but many of us want to learn, and the fact that the video is labeled as "tutorial" is very misleading. It is like if you wanted learn how to drive a car and you rent a movie with a lot of car chases.
Yes, a beautiful painting and shows the entire thing getting colored in. How can you not learn from that? Maybe a total beginner would feel that way but the opportunity to watch a painting of this caliber being done, to me, is very beneficial. There is a ton of great information here..
I'm tired of seeing people looking for free information and complaining when it's not exactly what they were hoping for.
@III6victor6III Not too mention that there is no tutorial on the face of the planet than can by itself improve your art skills. All tutorials can do is provide you with information, it's up to you to put it in to practice, and there is a good bit of information given in this video.
. if i wanna learn the basics of coloring i can't with this video... only if i'm at a higher level i can get what he is doin and only be paying attention to the coloring part... bah, it's an half-tutorial
i get what you mean , especially with stuff with photoshop theres alot of different tools to be used to get desired effects , you just have to look around pretty much everyhwere to get different bits and in the end you have your own technique
@TheDickyShow don't wanna sound like a douche, but it is not. I agree you can definitely learn stuff by watching people do things, but that doesn't make it a tutorial, by definition in a tutorial you have to be specifically INSTRUCTED by someone. Just because you learn from something does not make it a tutorial.
Well, the skills displayed here are amazing!! But it's really not a tutorial. It's a demonstration. Like going to an aikido class where the various techniques are quickly demonstrated with no explanation of all. From a learning point of view the returns are quite limited. I wish someone with skills like these would take the time to actually explain what they are doing and why they are doing it this way...
I find it to be quite useful tutorial. The man is showing us his technique from scratch to finish. If that is not a tutorial :) He can not make it like a cooking instructions book. Whoever is drawing and trying to find a way of his own will find the tutorial in this video.
cool drawing but I'm sorry. this isn't a tutorial. You aren't explaining anything about why you're doing what you're doing. Please everyone, stop labeling your videos 'tutorials' if you're not going to explain the process.
You are an idiot. Just watching gives you an idea on how to color and how draw. I learned a lot from vids like this and am happy that people upload. What do you want him to say? Light comes from here so i ll highlight this part? It varies how you are going to color and add details for each individual piece. If you cant get anything from this i suggest you are not ment to digipaint. You need to cover the basics first anyways. (DEVIANTART-> Tutorials)
@yoboss1049 This is a tutorial. Not a guide. You can clearly see the brushes he used and how he colours them in. If you have any idea how to observe you will get some useful information out of this video...
@uberfriponne --for people who sort of know what they're doing, yes. but for total noobs like myself it's pretty hard to tell wtf is going on: like his color palette is totally different than mine, how did he get it like that? and he creates and deletes layers during the video. why is he doing that? it's really annoying searching tons of vids that are labeled 'tutorial' when most of them are not .this is more like a demo, not a a tutorial.
@yoboss1049 If you cant figure out how to get a good color palette its your problem and you shouldn't be checking out this tutorial. Go look up some photoshop basics or just make a little swatch of some colors in the top or at the bottom of the painting. Also this just shows a coloring process and IMO is a good way to refine your style, if your really new at painting stuff check out some basics first.
@Bosso0 - ya i was just replying to the other guy. when i wrote the original comment 7 months ago, i was very new at this, so i was frustrated to not get any of the instruction. now i've learned a bit more. so i 'm more comfortable with it. but i still don't know how to get the circular color palette like in this video. can you tell me how to do this?
AND BTW I did that technique you referred to about making a little palette at the bottom of your painting. works good.!
@yoboss1049 and what he should tell you? "Im using dark colors for shadows and light colors for light, because this is how it goes in nature. Now im doing some details because details are important and as you can see, i do some rough sketch first, than i go for more details" You can see all of this, if you know how PS works, you dont need words, cause u see the process, layers he is using and brushes (like smudge tool with brush set on scatter). ifYouAreNoob, itsUselessForYouEvenWithExplanation
@orcusdei : are you people seriously that fucking stupid. The title says TUTORIAL, which it clearly isn't. It is a fucking demonstration. That is ALL i was saying in my original comment. This matter is laid to rest. It's not a fucking tutorial and if you really have trouble with the definitions of these two words, ( Tutorial. Demonstration) then you need to re-take English class, you stupid Czech bastard. Also your country sucks at football.
@yoboss1049 Hmm, I have absolutely no problem learning from video without words. I actually find I learn more this way than by reading explanations. I don't have the patients or attention span to sit through someone talking. Not to mention most videos are sped up so it would be at least a 20 to 30 minute tutorial.
This is very beautiful and I am going to try to figure out what is going on here, but it is more of demonstration than a tutorial. Tutorial suggests actively teaching a topic through specific instructions with demonstrations.

It's not a tutorial if you don't say nothing, dumbass....

To all the crybabies who want everything explained to them:
If you cant benefit from a wonderful example like this, you should probably stick to paint-by-numbers and coloring books.
III6victor6III 1 year ago
That is not the point. It is indeed a beautiful painting, but many of us want to learn, and the fact that the video is labeled as "tutorial" is very misleading. It is like if you wanted learn how to drive a car and you rent a movie with a lot of car chases.
lyonlamb 1 year ago
@lyonlamb
III6victor6III 1 year ago
@III6victor6III Not too mention that there is no tutorial on the face of the planet than can by itself improve your art skills. All tutorials can do is provide you with information, it's up to you to put it in to practice, and there is a good bit of information given in this video.

wow that looks awesome. I wanna know what brush that is. I only know how to use the normal round one, which sucks for this kind of thing. lol.

love the color wheel - cool drawing - but not a tutorial.
more advanced users can probably learn alot from watching this, but in order for it to be a tutorial it needs verbal instruction.

Just observe and take it in.

Really cool concept and very useful visual tutorial.
All of these "it's not a tutorial" whiner's want to be spoon fed and to me appear incredibly unappreciative.

BonneBreaker 1 year ago
i get what you mean , especially with stuff with photoshop theres alot of different tools to be used to get desired effects , you just have to look around pretty much everyhwere to get different bits and in the end you have your own technique
Skankyandy 1 year ago
Who said you cant watch people do stuff and learn from it indirectly? This is definitely a tutorial.
TheDickyShow 1 year ago
@TheDickyShow don't wanna sound like a douche, but it is not. I agree you can definitely learn stuff by watching people do things, but that doesn't make it a tutorial, by definition in a tutorial you have to be specifically INSTRUCTED by someone. Just because you learn from something does not make it a tutorial.

Well, the skills displayed here are amazing!! But it's really not a tutorial. It's a demonstration. Like going to an aikido class where the various techniques are quickly demonstrated with no explanation of all. From a learning point of view the returns are quite limited. I wish someone with skills like these would take the time to actually explain what they are doing and why they are doing it this way...
zenstories 2 years ago
I find it to be quite useful tutorial. The man is showing us his technique from scratch to finish. If that is not a tutorial :) He can not make it like a cooking instructions book. Whoever is drawing and trying to find a way of his own will find the tutorial in this video.
Thank you poisondlo, for sharing your talent.

cool drawing but I'm sorry. this isn't a tutorial. You aren't explaining anything about why you're doing what you're doing. Please everyone, stop labeling your videos 'tutorials' if you're not going to explain the process.

agreed good point, nice work
OutofAmway 2 years ago
You are an idiot. Just watching gives you an idea on how to color and how draw. I learned a lot from vids like this and am happy that people upload. What do you want him to say? Light comes from here so i ll highlight this part? It varies how you are going to color and add details for each individual piece. If you cant get anything from this i suggest you are not ment to digipaint. You need to cover the basics first anyways. (DEVIANTART-> Tutorials)
KROFL 2 years ago 7
It is a tutorial, just not the kind you're looking for ;)
Simply watching an artist can give you an idea on how he layers the color, in what order he makes the details, stroke styles, etc...
MarkArandjus 2 years ago
@yoboss1049 This is a tutorial. Not a guide. You can clearly see the brushes he used and how he colours them in. If you have any idea how to observe you will get some useful information out of this video...
rase1one 1 year ago
@yoboss1049 i agree. it's more like a demonstration.

@yoboss1049 observe what he does, best way to learn ;)
uberfriponne 1 year ago
@uberfriponne --for people who sort of know what they're doing, yes. but for total noobs like myself it's pretty hard to tell wtf is going on: like his color palette is totally different than mine, how did he get it like that? and he creates and deletes layers during the video. why is he doing that? it's really annoying searching tons of vids that are labeled 'tutorial' when most of them are not .this is more like a demo, not a a tutorial.
yoboss1049 1 year ago
@yoboss1049 If you cant figure out how to get a good color palette its your problem and you shouldn't be checking out this tutorial. Go look up some photoshop basics or just make a little swatch of some colors in the top or at the bottom of the painting. Also this just shows a coloring process and IMO is a good way to refine your style, if your really new at painting stuff check out some basics first.
Bosso0 1 year ago
@Bosso0 - ya i was just replying to the other guy. when i wrote the original comment 7 months ago, i was very new at this, so i was frustrated to not get any of the instruction. now i've learned a bit more. so i 'm more comfortable with it. but i still don't know how to get the circular color palette like in this video. can you tell me how to do this?
AND BTW I did that technique you referred to about making a little palette at the bottom of your painting. works good.!
yoboss1049 1 year ago
@yoboss1049 and what he should tell you? "Im using dark colors for shadows and light colors for light, because this is how it goes in nature. Now im doing some details because details are important and as you can see, i do some rough sketch first, than i go for more details" You can see all of this, if you know how PS works, you dont need words, cause u see the process, layers he is using and brushes (like smudge tool with brush set on scatter). ifYouAreNoob, itsUselessForYouEvenWithExplanation
orcusdei 1 year ago
@orcusdei : are you people seriously that fucking stupid. The title says TUTORIAL, which it clearly isn't. It is a fucking demonstration. That is ALL i was saying in my original comment. This matter is laid to rest. It's not a fucking tutorial and if you really have trouble with the definitions of these two words, ( Tutorial. Demonstration) then you need to re-take English class, you stupid Czech bastard. Also your country sucks at football.

@yoboss1049 thanks for the compliment pal :)
0CDProductions0 1 year ago
@yoboss1049 Hmm, I have absolutely no problem learning from video without words. I actually find I learn more this way than by reading explanations. I don't have the patients or attention span to sit through someone talking. Not to mention most videos are sped up so it would be at least a 20 to 30 minute tutorial.
