I saw this movie on video when i was 14 after being impressed by the first two and i must say this movie was the grossest movie i've ever seen and more realistic than Dawn of the Dead even on the gore, i nearly puked at the end. Definitely the second grossest horror movie of the 80's next to Cannibal Holocaust. 1985 was a nice year for zombies like this, Re-Animator, Return of the Living Dead, Burial Ground (1985 release since the original was in 1980), Lifeforce and The Stuff
@Johnlindsey289 Yeah, Day of the Dead along with Cannibal Holocaust, Cannibal Ferox, Evil Dead 1&2, Maniac, Basket Case, The Beyond, City of the Living Dead, House by the Cemetery, Burial Ground, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, The Toxic Avenger, Street Trash, From Beyond and Re-Animator are all great puke bucket gore movies of the 80's.
Except you disapprove of real animal killing in CH and CF, the animal cruelty free version of CH was better. What about Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers and Blood Diner? seen those? and don't forget Men Behind The Sun and Faces of Death are sick gore flicks of the 80's too
@Johnlindsey289 Faces of Death isn't my cup of tea and Men Behind the Sun is not what i'd consider to be a great film so those don't really count for me. Blood Diner and Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers are good, cheesy, gory fun. Bad Taste is another great one i forgot to mention. I'll only watch the animal cruelty free version of Cannibal Holocaust and i usually just skip over the few killings in CF to enjoy it better because i'm an animal lover and hate seeing them being killed so cruelly like that.
Even in the commentary on CF with Morghen saying on that turtle scene, "Oh this should be forbidden on film". Let's not forget Bad Taste which was the funniest bloodbath of the 80's with Evil Dead 1 & 2. Men Behind The Sun made me felt like taking a shower after seeing it and after finding out that dead corpse they did an autopsy on was for real.
"I got an alternative, yeah, yeah, I got an alternative. Let's get in that old whirly-bird, find us an island some place, get juiced up and spend what time we got left soakin' up some sunshine! How's that?"
I found an unopened limited CD release of this album on E-bay a couple of years ago for $50.00! I see them selling now for $100.00 used. I still have the cellophane wrap somewhere.......This whole album gives me so much inspiration....
I like all the films but I think this is better cause its not non stop corny action like in dawn it puts the plot more towards the end of the world feeling
This one and ' IF TOMORROW COMES' are certainly the best & most beautiful horror(zombie) movie soundtracks I can ever find out. I Really pleased to be able to listen to this melody again on youtube as the soundtrack LP record I used to have, was lost sometime in mid 90's. It happened when my parents moved to the new house while I have lived overseas. Released in 86, but still wanted. I am trully possed with this song.
I never get sick of this movie, if i said "I don't know why" then i would be a liar, because i know exactly why i love this movie, its the very best movie of it's genre!
@Jamescreaney WELL, IF WE STAY DOWN HERE LONG ENOUGH, I'LL HAVE TO LAY OFF THE FUCKIN' BOOZE, STEEL, 'CAUSE THERE WON'T FUCKIN' BE ANY OF IT FUCKIN' LEFT. IN THE MEANWHILE, I WILL CONTINUE TO INDULGE MYSELF, AND I WILL CONTINUE DOING MY BEST... IN THE GOOD FIGHT AGAINST DRY ROT AND RUST.
@Jamescreaney lmao "If I stay on YouTube long enough, I'll have to lay off the fucking booze, cause there wont fucking be any of it fucking left..." :D
I heard Romero was disatisfied with this movie.. not sure why as I think it was the best of the series. Excellent story, intelligent dialogue, ensemble cast -- Sarah, Rhodes, Logan, Steel, Rickles -- and top notch gore effects (even by today's CGI standards) .. in a word, perfection.. and not forgetting the best line in horror movie history: "That's right, run you fuckin' lunatics!".
@Quiet37Robert Yeah, after a few watches of all of them you'll start to like this one best. It probably has more meaning then the others. The remake of night is nearly as good as this one though.
Best Fucking Song in the entire movie really caps it off perfectly, couldnt ask for a better ending then this... i just wish they had zoomed out from the calender sarah had and did a 360 camera view of the island that would have been fuckign cool!
Great ending music... kinda reminds me of christmas i imagine those 3 survivors on a christmas day.. on island still surviving and not giving up hope :P but then again..... I guess one of them has to inpregnant her to keep the life going.. xD
@hschan4 jaja i can see a deleted scene now...John and Bill both hugging sarah serenely while cradling a baby good gawd so beautiful 0_0 *sniff* *sniff*

Do you think this movie is gorier than Dawn of the Dead by Zack?
Johnlindsey289 5 months ago
@Johnlindsey289 It's not about the gore. Romero's movie is eternally better. Nothing could top it.
wandererlain 5 months ago
@Johnlindsey289 Yes the gore was physical and the gore in the remake of Dawn was CGI.
