I saw Ashton Kutcher on TV today on the MTV Music Awards and he reminded me of this movie. Of course he could of turned around like in other alternate endings, but this one is powerful because he gives up his love and future to a girl who doesnt even know he exists, but was once a friend in another world.

The only way to minimize the pain to his mother and to keep everyone else safe was to end his life. The ending in this vid doesn't work because he was supposed to be dying from brain trauma due to "butterflying".
