  • I agree. They make it so that its simple. Players now these days don't want a challege to were they have to find NPCs or other players that have a skill or ability they need. (ie. The wish spell) People want it to be like if they roll a fighter, they should be able to face every challege out there instead of useing cunning, magic, lore, or something more then a great axe attack. water vampires, please. A vampire is a vampire and needs to follow all the rules with it. I agree with you Victor.

  • I'm a new player, and even newer DM, I started playing 3.5e with some friends just over a year ago. From all that I've seen in 4th edition, it does seem very cramped? As if the game play is so quick and efficiant that the mystique of it is lessened. I haven't had the serene pleasure of running a 2nd edition or earlier game, but I have read several sourcebooks, and they do seem incredible, with their mythos and lore. However, I still find the best part of the game to be it's flexibility and story

  • if they kept things the same, no one would buy the new product. and the shit would still be boring. i like most of the changes, it's something new. besides, if you dont care for 4e, you can still play 3e 0r 3.5. no one will stop you im sure. as for playing monsters, you could play a half orc in past version so who cares. there is no rule saying you have to play a monster. besides people, its table top, do with it what you will.

  • Simple as this, 3rd and up make it easier for bad gamers to game, anything that supports bad gamers and keeps them in the gaming community, is a poison to all of us quality gamers.

I run 2ed and if you suck then you won't be able to hide it and you will be filtered out of that position as you should be.

  • Oh that was cool. Thanks! I agree with it. Hey I am used to 2nd edition still lol

Still, D&D inspired us to make movies in the fantasy world and rules and characters.

Monsters and various races are used.

Our movies are all put on You Tube

    Movies by: Shadowyn Films

    movies like: Soul Searching

If you like D&D you will like these movies a well.

    Ideas are welcome!

  • 3rd/3.5 was dumbing things down, now i just put 3rd/3.5/4th into the garbage bin, they are not real dungeons and dragons.

  • @CondorDM i thought 3.5 was really good, but i did have to limit certain feats and classes the characters could play. But 4.0 is severely broken. Today a player did nearly 100 points of damage in one round with a 5th level character. Broken!

  • You guys seriously need a series of updated videos on 4e, because all your 4e videos feature a lot of incorrect information on the edition.

  • I do agree that all the vides on 4th were done when the game hadn't been released or at the early stages of the release.....but there are so many games out there which makes it had to get back to 4th Edition....that are more interesting then a updated d&d system at times.....

  • Isn't that that kid who shot up that school???

  • The tarrasque is easy to kill so long as you're a 9th level wizard and you have an idea that it's there. Meh.

  • This guy totally feels the same way as I do and words it very well.

  • I agree, 4.0 is dumbing things down, i started with 3.5 and am unfamiliar with the AD&D stuff though I have the core books, I'll definitely look over them and see....damn you Wizards, If i wanted to play WoW, I'd play WoW

  • Wow Vic is a moron lol.

  • 4th edition ruined Dragons, making their breath weapons unable to kill crap, they ruined the planes, making it a gayer version of christian mythology, they fucked up the alignment system, making it stereotypical good vs evil bullshit. But most of all they claim this is in memory of gary gygax, no Gygax would have never approved of how 4th edition crapped on his life's work.

  • Totally agree with you. I regret even buying the 4e PHB.

  • Same thing my friend felt when he bought 3rd/3.5 books and i am glad i haven't wasted my money on either edition, ad&d 2ed is real dungeons and dragons.

Wizards of the coast just made a game and used the name dungeons and dragons.

Oh yeah in 3rd/3.5 you can play monsters, dwarven mages should all die.

  • I think one of the best things about 2nd edition ad&d is that despite its flaws it was really open to play in your own style, and the focus was more on roleplaying. And yea like this guy victor said, theyve taken out the mythological basis to lots of game elements with 3rd and 4th ed. The games dont feel like they have a history to it, just seems like another way to fill WOTC's bank account.

  • when that distinction is made...it only serves to prove how broke 3rd ed was.

  • please don't call it 3pointO or 4pointO...just call it 3rd ed or 4th ed (this play on "new age" words just shows how the game is trying to follow digi-trends that really only serves to the flash&bang players that really are only attracted to new art and shiny pictures). The depth of this game has really "left the building". 3rd was just broke (i played it for 2 years and learned within the first couple months). 4th ed just hits the "easy-button" for those without imagination.

  • Or, perhaps he is trying to make a statement [and distinction] between 3.0 as opposed to 3.5

  • "From what I've heard" = I have no right to talk about changes I haven't seen, but I will anyway

  • 1st edition is the only really good version. 2cd edition bit. Tanari? I mean come on. No assassins. WTF! The skill system was terrible and totally unnecessary and time consuming. The change in the names of the outer planes yuk. No alignment language. Another fuck up.

Everything arcaic and cryptic and cool about AD&D was removed with 2cd edition. They made it more family friendly. 1st edition is the only way. It didn't take itself to seriously. It was just fun.

    then theres 3rd ed. 8(

  • I still play with the books I bought in 1979. Everything that came after 1e is pretty much crap. =( Too bad...

  • they did loose a lot of cool stuff after 1st ed but the skills and feat are very cool i think 3.5 is the best out there i use 3.5+ its 3.5 with a little 1st thrown in there

  • it's fun, but it's a little to much of a combat simulator for me. To much focus on feats and getting powerful. But if your in the mood for a Fantasy Combat Simulator it is the best. I'll give you that.

  • vampire hunter D is real just look at him

  • Thank you, Victor. You have saved me from buying the 4th edition. D&D is dumbed down. 2e was the best. They have turned D&D into a complete different game. I have played since the 1st edition was released in 197*ahem* something. :o) The game is dead. Period.

  • I hate companys buying out others. You see it time and time again they runin EVERYTHING!.

Wouldnt you beable to use older editions if ya wanted anywas?

  • i would perhaps agree with him. Its just his perspective anyway. Do you believe there is a right or wrong in fantasy games like D&D ?

  • 2nd edition is the best ever. 3rd sucked, but was playable.... 4th ed is from another planet. It's not D&D...its a something totally different

  • Gosh, your opinion sure is useful here. Not.

Fact: this Victor fellow doesn't know what he's talking about. That's all that needs to be said. Love 4e. Hate 4e. I don't care, just know what you're talking about. That's all I ask. It's nothing unreasonable.

  • So my opinion is not useful because you don't agree with it? Let me guess....you like Obama too? To reiterate, 4e is NOT D&D, it's like table-top Diablo or table-top World of Warcraft. There are many, many people who concur on that point. Victor has many good points, such as: 4e is "dumbed-down D&D (true), also 4e totally stupidified the Vampire, Lich, and any non-combat devious type monster (good point again Victor).

  • No, your opinion isnt useful because it doesn't add anything to any discussion. Even if you had said "4e rules" or something it would be useless because it's a simplistic, subjective statement that doesn't provide anything remotely constructive.

Tell me, how is the vampire now more stupid now that it can't punch away levels? THAT is something that I consider to have been stupid about older editions, and now it's gone. Ergo, newer vampire is better.

See? A logical argument. Try it sometime.

  • FACT: You are a nerd

FACT: You live in your parents basement in the Netherlands

    FACT: You are Dwight Schrute

  • Um...WulinSageCat I've played 4th ed unfortunately. And for the most part Victor is right. (total waste of 2 evenings)

Everything that made dungeons and dragons worth playing was removed from 4th edition. Everything is way to balanced, everyone is way to powerful to start WAAAAAY to powerful to start, and the Alignments are terrible. I gave the books away. It's more for children, not really a game for adults. I'm done.

  • @mglosk

Your DM was way too easy on you.

  • Well, we tend not to play a game about killing the players.

It's more about problem solving and role playing. Combat has always taken a back seat in our games.

Players shouldn't have super powers. We play 1st edition now. Way better system. Much more fun, much more archaic feel to the game which gives the game a better atmosphere. 4th edition feels like it should have been called D&Dsuperheros to us.

    It was totally lame.

  • Modern Dungeons & Dragons = World of Warcraft.

  • All though Tolkien is classic D&D, it did end up kinda creating a stereotype that turned some people off.

2nd edition was ok if you had both played long enough to learn the rules and were old enough to understand them, however it was WAY to complicated, and I mean in unnecessary ways. I liked 3/3.5 because it streamlined the game and made it easy for new players to get into. 4th Ed, looks to be following a similar formula. Can't quite say how good it is yet, but I think it deserves a shot

  • Bodak still has death gaze. Tarrasque can't be killed permanently AT ALL. Vampires were apparently mystical when they punched away your levels. Vampires never were a class. Dragon-people were already widely present in 3.5. There is no challenge rating for "being a monster" in 4e. 4e looks nothing like White Wolf. Gnomes have nothing to do with technology. And tech-gnomes were invented by Dragonlance anyway.

You don't have to like 4e, that's fine. But at least know what you're talking about.

  • 4th ed. is amazing...amazingly dumb i never had any problem with 3.5 balance. 4.0 is all about fighting and no real roleplaying it has been realy dumbed down

  • 4th Edition is amazing! 3.5 is so unbalanced it makes me sick.

  • 3.5 edition forever.

  • This dude doesn't know what he's talking about. Harder for the DM? I got my whole set pre order and am fleshing out a campaign, the new DM guide has streamlined DMing and greatly reduces downtime, making the game more fun. Monsters as PCs? Ever hear of an ECL dude? And who's the spineless DM who's not setting guidelines to avoid overpowered PCs? And the Terrarsque was overpowered, bottom line.

  • Hey, does the open game license extend to the other editions as well? (can people publish new stuff for the 1st & 2nd editions?) Probably never happen, but maybe it would get the point across.

  • I agree with most of what is said here but I think 4th ed is worth giving a chance.

  • Ok this guy is so SMACK ON!!!!! After WOTC bought out TSR they made the game crap.

  • its gonna bomb

  • I think the game has lost it way with the new version after 2nd......

  • I think PCs should be good or neutral and the basic six races, for the most part.
