The reason this song is on the "B" side of a 45 is because the "A" side is IMMIGRATION SONG a CLASSIC 45 to have. I gave mine to a friend, Mark Rawlins, 1984
Led Zeppelin has a such a great sound in this song! There's just something wonderful about it. It makes me think of wine, women, and shady country roads.
The band themselves thought it was "scrappy" at the time (the recording sessions of LZ III in mid 1970). They only released it as a single in America, thinking this kind of song would only be good for that market (and not on any album). It didn't have anything to do with "enough acoustics" or too many of them - if a song was good enough, it was going on that session's album, if it was completed. Some songs, like the Rover and No Quarter were already created, but nowhere near completion
@guitardds yea its a nice song. but remember led zep IV also has some nice acoustics with going to california and battle of evermore. i think they just thought they'd have enough acoustics already and considered this one the weakest (with the weakest message)
I saw them in1970 at the Hampton Beach Casino , I was 15, I was too close to the stage, and the next day my ears were still ringing, unbelievable , God they were good !!
Led Zeppelin's "Hey Hey What Can I Do" was also released on the 1972 compilation album : The New Age of Atlantic.
It headed a stellar play-list of songs by: Yes, Buffalo Springfield, Cactus, Delaney & Bonnie, Dr. John, John Prine, Laudon Wainwright III, J. Geils Band, Gordon Haskell & Jonathan Edwards.
For me it ramains as one of the greatest albums of its time....
@UnAmEiTwEmAkEiTFILMS It was never on an official album, just on a B-side with Immigrant song on the front. I'm pretty sure it's on one of their greatest hits albums though.
My little lover does the midnight shift,... she balls-around all the time? Ain't that a Bitch! I mean, who hasn't had 1 of these in their past lifetime. lol.
One of the best Led Zeppelin songs ever, and quite hard to find even when it was all over the local classic rock station in the 70's/80's. I remember buying Zeppelin 8 tracks and albums trying to track down this song, and the joke was on me. I had to buy a 45 record of "The Immigrant Song" at the former Peaches records, to get this song, which was the b-side.
@pingeek777 peaches records.... i don't know if i remember that . oh, sort of.. man that was a long time ago. i too, didn't know where to get this, it wasn't on any of their albums, but i had it on a bootleg tape. never could understand why it wasn't on an album, and they only played once or twice on the radio in denver there 1970. "peaches" was that a record store you found in the malls? 1970 aurora co got it's first mall, and they had the best stores i've ever seen! "manhole cover" spencers gi
i always thought they be better if they had a better bass player. nothing against brian jones but he sucks.

I really tried to like Zep but I just don't care for them. That being said I recognize the effect they had on music and I really do love this song.
