@beepbeepme50 I do the notations on my editing software before I upload the video. I know YT has a way to do it after the fact but I've never used it.
Great video, and choice of song wasn't bad either. My very favorite part was when you drove on Saint Paul Ave., and went on the lower levels of this interchange. Probably b/c I've never seen this interchange from Saint Paul Ave., or the perspective of the Marquette Interchange's lower level ramps.
@Freewayjim One more question I should've asked you earlier, where did you find this vintage scan of the Marquette Interchange(back then, obviously called Central Interchange)? That's a cool scan of how it used to look.
Loved the "Bonus footage." Nice to see Dallas has been the trendsetter for "High-Five" construction. Great song as well. It's so funny. If you're over 40, you think of The Whispers version. If you're under 40, you think of the Will Smith "Going to Miami" version.
@Freewayjim Yes, they are from his 1997 album "Big Willie Style." He also did the theme to "Men in Black" by sampling Patrice Rushen's "Forget Me Nots."
I gotta say, I have more respect for somebody covering a song with their own interpretation of it (good or bad) rather than sampling the heck out of it in to some mish-mash like Will Smith does.
@lakebay972: Here you guys. The official music video for "Welcome to Miami." Well, the first half of the video at least. /watch?v=860XBqj0suI&feature=related
@foxboy1618 Are you talking about the Whale mural that used to adorn the parking structure that was ontop of some lanes on I43? Yeah it was a neat piece... kind if wish it lived on, but that ugly parking structure did cover up the Court house which is also magnificent looking.
Great video Jim!! I loved the Kilbourn Ave exit and West St Paul Ave view of the interchange. BTW, what caused the "dropped frames" at I-794 East Lakefront?
@cochrab Thanks, since I film with MiniDV tapes, my best guess is the camera just had a hiccup for lack of a better term, not sure what caused the dropped frames to be honest.
@CallMeEmaxe That's because I can't film in rainy weather (it would look like crap, I've tried it). You obviously have not seen the St. Louis Dusk to Dark video :)
@FreewayAndrew The new interchange is MUCH more handsome. The old one was inefficiently designed (left hand exits and merging), and it's last 5 years was really crumbling apart and rusty... it was really sad looking interchange before.
I'll tell you what. I've driven through all of the mega-sized interchanges in this country, and I'll say that the ramps here do not rank anywhere near the longest that I've seen. However, the aesthetics that WisDOT implemented are top-notch; the best I've seen of any mega-interchange. I-43, just north of the interchange, looks beautifully reconstructed, and it's not just another faceless stretch of gray concrete.
Excellent idea to film it from street level, too. FAVORITED!
Next Time you're in Milwaukee, film it at night since it lights up

@trball8 I did film it at night, just didn't like some of the footage, check the previous video to this, you see some of it at night.

.

Amazing interchange, especially from street level, does the old interchange look more impressive or the new one?
FreewayAndrew 6 months ago
@FreewayAndrew I never saw the old interchange in person but I can't imagine how it would unless you have a fetish for 1960's freeway design.
Freewayjim 6 months ago
@Freewayjim I don't imagine either, the blue paint on the ramps make the new design more impressive than the old one.
