I guess it works like MIDI. Instead of receiving MIDI commands, the application listens to the mics for any sound loud enough to trigger the midi command to playback the associated sample.
I guess the electronic drum kit manufacturers for home users hate this app :)
The advantage is drumagog also balances the signal taken from the mics and adds that to the mix along with the sample. while a trigger just sends the digital sample with none of the real acoustics. if you were to try to accomplish the same thing without the program, you'd need mics AND triggers.. really pricey that way...
Fuck DW and Truth, Betty Crocker is now my favorite brand, and heck when im done i cant cook eggs on my toms DW TRUTH PEARL OCDP TAMA YAMAHA SONOR(okay maybe sonor) aint got NOTHIN on these
do you find that drumagogs samples kind of suck though? I love the program but it seems like all or most of the samples sound crappy and are fairly hard to fit in your mix. I'm about to buy steven slates samples cause they sound amazing. just wondering about your opinion.
@OhJohnnyOhJohnny Yes I agree, they do suck. I thought it was me. I would like to know if you did purchase the steven slates gogs and am wondering if you had any better luck?
so if i get this stright, It can't take a single audio track which contains a a mono or stereo mix of the whole cabbodel and turn that into a midi. It needs each drum to be a seperate feed in the mix. Which doesn't seem that big a deal, although i'm sure it has its use.
that is pretty badass. I had been looking for a way to connect my dm-5 pro directly to my presonus firestudio (on the G-5 Mac w/ cubase) and record and map my druming w/ triggers, so -like that plug in-i could replace the sounds later if need be!
There are no triggers on any of those pots or pans. Drumagog is listening to the mics for each piece and replacing the sound of the pans being hit with a drum sound in real time. There's another NAMM video showing something similar, except with a guy slapping his knees and shoulders with the resulting sounds also being replaced with drum sounds, again in real time.
The drummer is WOW

So what's the advantage of this over triggers?
RussellsParadox 2 years ago
Are you retarded?
You don't NEED triggers. I've you've got a bunch of SM57s (which 99.99% you do if you're into recording) you can turn a cardboard INTO a trigger.
No drum kit OR trigger required. Even cheap Behringer mics will do the job.

i've been using drumagog for a few years now. IT'S DIESEL and well worth the cash. It can be a little finicky at times, but superb none the less!

@atomicaudiorecording I think all you have to do is replace the drumagog midi input to any vsti input. For example Metal Foundry.
I'm going to experiment with this.

@OhJohnnyOhJohnny If you watch the video or read the manual, you may see that you can make your own samples. :)
