  • you can't imagine how boring and useless is the commentary for such a beautiful technique, the french really have the art of screwing the whole sense up, with pseudo intellectual meanings.

  • How come this guy seems to look every where but at his uke? Eye poke defence?

  • @myoharmonics Nope, no poke eye defense, haha. Well, before the attack it is common not to look directly at the enemy or at the thing which is incoming. During the technique it is favorable to look towards the point where the technique is aiming at. Also a few body positions (depending on technique) become much weaker if you turn your head towards the Uke (e.g. Sokumen Irimi Nage is much stronger if you look away during the technique). Kobayashi Style is known to exaggerate this a bit.

  • @daitomac - such an ignorance and lack of knowledge in the subject. If you tried only once to come out onto the mat you wouldn't say even a little part of the crappy critics of yours. Aikido seems to be the "dance of insane people who fall of no reason" only for someone who's looking at it from the side. Try it on your own, than you'll see that appearences can be deceptive. But my advice is not to try to be the uke of Shihan Cognard cuz your big-headed ass might receive a severe thrash ;-)

I must say, the practice of Aikido relies too much on people grabing you. And that is a flaw. Because most technics is nullified when people release their handgrab. Secondly, the students have that loser role. They are all off-balance even before touching the Sensei. Another flaw here imho. I love Aikido, it's pretty, but only few Sensei know what Ki (Chi) really is and impressed me.

I am a Taichi Teacher, 4th gen disciple of Grandmaster Feng Zhiqiang. Studied Aikido for 3 years.

  • @KelGhu ..you should know as taichi master that you need to follow the action if you are losing the attack and staying or being ready to keep the oportunity attack again ..so if ever you stop you die!!!(virtually of course).. relation yang:yin...or something like this? Anyway it is better to be very next the hand ..less power (tai chi fighting form )

  • All I am saying is Aikido relies too much on grabs during practice. O'Sensei had so much internal power he needed only to barely touch his opponent to make him fly. I've seen this kind of internal power much more in Tai Chi than in Aikido. As of Yin and Yang, you're talking about physical movements. Internal Yin Yang is characterized by physical stillness as you absorb physical power and release it through the soft tissues making people unnaturally fly. O'Sensei learnt that in China and was good

  • @KelGhu , Maybe 3 years of studying Aikido are not enough to get the spirit... There is not a loser role in Aikido and there is not a winner role! Aikido is an "inoffensive" interaction of two or more people that assume alternatively the "give" or "receive" role, as said from O Sensei thad spend half of his life to lern to kill and the other half to teach to not harm anybody! Aikido is not a street fight, Aikido is a philosophy of life, a way to love everybody.

  • @kototamabushi I used the word "loser" to emphasize the fact that the "receiver" has often no grounding whatsoever, he is already in a bad posture. What I am saying is, at a certain point, one should practice with an opponent who is not willing fall. It is is more subtle to feel open doors when your partner tries not to fall in the trap. That's what we do in Tai Chi with Push hands. Both are givers and receivers, and it's still soft like Aikido is.

  • @KelGhu , After all, if I'll bee in trouble in the street, the first action is try to avoid conflit, the second is running away and the third and last is defence! I'll shurely not waiting for an aggressor to grab my arm... Have a nice day

p.s. I love Taichi too, is a great way to know themself.

  • @kototamabushi Every True Martial Art has those kind of philosophy. It's the teacher that can be bad. I can tell you as a Tai Chi teacher, I am the fastest runner! :)

But I am talking about practices here. Grabs lessen your initiative. Ki goes where the Intention goes. If you rely on people grabing you, the instant they release you, you will feel disconnected for a second. And unless their are stupid, most people will release you before they get in a bad posture.

  • @KelGhu Thanks for yor reply, I appreciate your words, that make sense but the idea to keep the grab came frome the ancient need of prevent tori to get out the sword. More, in some technique if uke releases tori hand he get easely a slap in the face. Anyway in my dojo and my federation we use more kinonagare (for higher kyu and dan) that mean much less contact.

  • @kototamabushi Oh yeah, right. The sword... Nice tradition. I like it.

Tai Chi lacks the practical side of Aikido. And that's bad too in my opinion.

My favorite Aikido Master, besides O'Sensei, is Sugawara Sensei. Fusion of Aikido and Taichi. His Aikido Taichi form is beautiful. And the Kaeshi Waza is very nice too. He has taichi push hands in his system too. You can check that on youtube. I am frustrated not to be able to follow his teaching! ;)

  • @KelGhu, I did'nt know about Aikido-Thaichi, thanks for the advice, very interesting!! (youtube.com/watch?v=DTRJ0HeQkcs) I've seen in that video quite a lot of Aikido techniques in slow motion and beautifully executed!

  • @kototamabushi Look for Sugawara Tetsutaka Sensei. Not the other Sugawara Sensei. :)

The form (kata) is just beautiful and has meaning. His Kaeshi Waza is Tai Chi style too. Smooth and continuous. You may not see the subtilities of the "push hands" video (Taichi Tui shou). But this is what will develop the sensitivity to Ki, because here you have to find flaws in your opponent softness using yourself softness. The less soft guy will the hard one.

  • Great shihan

  • Such fake! It is a shame for Aikido that such people who self defined themselves Shihans end up doing such crap. I am just seeing people flying around just because a guy lifts up his arm. Pahetic.

  • @daitomac I guess you have never been armlocked...so I guess you never practised anything.

  • @daitomac so? Which Dan in which martial art do you have to say so? Just wondering, most people commenting on martial arts here have never done any ;D

  • Great Master!
