@johndeere4300 This engine has a maximum rph at 1500 r/m, but I don´t think any normal people will run it on maximum speed :) I think it´s around 300 r/ m at idle. At cruisingspeed it´s arond 1000 r/m
we have an boat with adjustable pith propeller and we have a wheel that you can turn for throttle and pitch in 1 so if you turn the wheel right all the way its full throtle forwards :D
I had a Norwegian fishing boat 53 ft, called {hav bris } in 1978, with a big single cylinder engine, a hot bowl where you had to blow lamp the cylinder head before foot pumping in fuel, then air start it, the cylinder was about 6 foot tall, sounder just like you’re engine it did, LOL.
Engine seen at 0:59 in its box. When strangers to the fishing industry see these small inboard engines on display in museums, at shows etc they have no idea how they'd fit in a fishing boat or what size the fishing boat would be, this video also shows the usual box used to cover this small engine.
Love that "TONK ! TONK !" noise. Reminds me of the old Norwegian fishing boats during WW2 that used to carry out resistence work between Norway and Shetland Islands. Yes thats right. Norway to Shetlands with 1 cylinder !
Nice sound, it reminds me of the coasters which would motor up the Ribble to Preston Dock. I was always surprised that some big ships would be powered by single cylinder engines. In the night, I would lie in bed and hear the "pong, pong, pong" sound out on the river. I wonder what it was like for the crew on a long voyage?
Hello. It´s a single cylinder Marna, 4 stroke diesel engine 12 hp, weights 370kg. It has a standard regulator, no hit and miss. The engine was built by Mandals motorfabrik, Norway in 1961.
The Mandals motorfabrik has built engines for Volvo Penta to, MD1 and MB10, but that´s an other story.
Yes, it has a nice sound. The engine is in very good condition but the boat need a lot of renovation. I have used the Fordson tractor to lift the engine out of the boat.
Great sound. Seems to rev even slower than my Volvo MD1 - but the smoke stack is a great idea - and a wonderful way of sharing that unique sound with everyone in the neighbourhood!
Awesome! I love that "TONK - TONK" exhaust noise. The norwegian resistance used this engine in their fishing boats to cross between The Shetland Islands and Norway. Yes that is correct. They crossed the north sea on ONE cylinder !!!
Thanks! One of my friends had a 2 cyl engine like this. It sounds nice to, but not so nice like this one. The engine are built in 1961 and are cooled by a pipesystem outside the hull, there are freshwater in the system.
what rpm does this engine idle at?

@johndeere4300 I'd estimate about 120 RPM--I counted 60 RPM in 30 seconds before it sped up!

use earprotection during long trips.
I know some old fishermen and
seamen who have bad hearing
because of hard noices from
engines.

blackbm54 3 years ago
Hello. It´s about 1500 rpm maximum, but I run it much slower. This engine is a four stroke, so it sounds like 750 rpm.
sealovers17 3 years ago
Great boat , great engine, great tickover . Max revs about 100 rpm - you wouldn't want to push it any harder - it would spoil the sound!

Love the exhaust.
How do u start this?

Hallo. The propeller blades are adjustable.
It´s possible to adjust the speed, ahead-neutral- astern. A lot of big ships has this type of propeller.

ahh, "variable" pitch propellor.
