  • dude you timing belt has moved one click had same issue it is the valves hitting the pistons check you markers and go back to original

  • @MrPhilforbes oh man I hope not ...I sold it cheap....there was a pile of metal shavings in the oil pan though..

  • are f10-a?

  • Comment removed

  • question if the rod bearing are making the knocking noise would it be possible to replace just the bearings from bottom by removing the pan etc? my sami has the same noise and check the compression on the pistons and found the #3 has 30psi difference with the others.

and I wonder if this issue would affect the smoke inspection, I have a relatively good condition carburetor, a new exhaust system with cat converter, muffler, and pacesetter headers but still makes me think if would pass...thanks

  • @mikevegas88 Well, If the bearings are bad then the rod is more than likely bent because the bearings wore out and the rod bent with the bearings....its a hell of a job to change the bearings If you pull your oil pan and see metal shavings your rods bent already.

  • sound like valve lash problem, relatively an easy fix, I have mine with the same problem and I gonna (or try) replace the lashes

  • @mikevegas88 I was really hoping It was in my case...but when I took the oil pan off there were metal chunks in it....really bumed me out...I loved that sami.

  • Did you ever figure out what the noise was from? I have a 2005 XL7 with 139k miles and got a similar noise coming for the right side of the engine (driver side) directly behind the exhaust manifold heat shield.

  • my suzuki has 375xxx on it and still running strong now i have my 4x4 it wont let me put it rear wheel drive so i cnt drive it no where i tought it was the drive shaft but nope its still omn there

  • @hcjurado Damn thats a bummer! I want aother one... but kinda hard to find cheap parts for them...everbody thought they had to tortue them.

  • mine has 380K on it & still runin strong

  • @drunk4x4guy Damn! I never get that lucky with any auto's..lol

  • check the valve lash,, if that aint the problem it could be a rod knockin

  • yeah mines got that same problem but mines a wristpin not a rod knock.. srry for ur loss

  • @lockpickman Yeah I hate it too...I wish the motors lasted longer than 50,000!!

  • Sounds like noisy Valve lashes???

  • @Alonsel3 I wished it was but it was the rod bearings.....sux!

  • blowen moter

  • @assman24511 well it did blow later on.

  • @assman24511 shit man sorry

  • @assman24511 Well assman, I wish I have saved the Sami but I didn't think I could find a motor.

  • yeah (suzuki sierra) same thing

they are a great engine, but a bit hard on fuel

  • haha, you nkow how you fix this problem, put the garden hose thru the carbinator, open the water step on the gas pedal to the flor for five minute, then change the oil.

  • @wallboat oh man! That would be a messy procedure!

  • samurai parts are cheap up here.and rebuilding those motors are really easy (before pushing pistons through the block)

  • @savagebuster i wish you would have told me that before i sold it for almost nothing.. I looked into a kit and it was 1000...and the new motor was 2500 off ebay....i think the kit would

have been to hard for me to understand...

  • haha had the same sound,, turned out that no.3 piston was shattered but being held together in the cylinder wall

  • @thetassieboys What it in a Samurai?

  • maybe you should check the flapervalve.

  • @wallboat the piston came out the side of the block.

  • hey man, you got a bad bullon replace thru the alternator wire

  • rod bearing!

  • @calosrav Yeah I miss that Samurai....:(

  • connecting rod bearing............

  • :( all i need for mine is a carb yours lookes beter than mine got it for $300

    SUZUKI SAMURAI FTW!

  • @saulisrztk Did you get the motor for 300? I couldn't find one so I sold the Samurai for nothing. Sucks!

  • @london1817 aww...dude you sold it for nothing?... i got mine with a messd up body...

  • @saulisrztk yeah..I sold it for 400 to a friend...breaks my heart everythime I see one diving! you should find a carb on craigs list. They are soo much fun to drive!

  • :( all i need for mine is a carb yours look beter than mine got it for $300

    SUZUKI SAMURAI FTW!

  • did you check the distributor because mine had that noise and i changed out the distributor because the weights at the bottom were loose. also, i got my alternator rewounnd and the noise went away

  • @MrLakebum21 Well It was a bent crankshaft...I sold it...I hated that but I couldn't afford a new motor for it. I like Samurai's but the motors and not easy or cheap.

  • it could be your distributor. it has the weights in the bottom and it could also be the alternator. i had this same problem with mine. btw im 15.... but i build samurais so i know what im talking about!(most of the time)

  • It,s a Big end

  • @wirelessnet2009 Yeah the main bearing went and bent the rod.

  • Pop the motor and change it for a 1.6. I rebuilt a 1.3 and has been a headache every since. I have to change heads out because although I ground the valves I didn't shave the head. As soon as it gets running well, it goes on the market. I prefer my 57 Jeep. It sounds like a rod might be rattling. Just for an inexpensive test, buy some "engine honey" and see if it quiets it down. If it does then you know it is a serious problem.

  • @Quillrun I did some research and this is expensive to replace or rebuild. I think I might just sell it as is on "Craigs list" How much should I ask for it?

  • yea adjust your valve lash and then like some people said teardown your bottom end... might be spun bearing.... take it to a machine shop!!!

  • Sounds like a lifter to me. Remove the valve covers, push hard on each lifter with a big screwdriver and see which one stops the noise. If that doesn't work, forget everything I said.

  • @breezebro Hey its worth a shot anyway! Thanks!

  • Go electric man.

  • @edstar83 I am going barney rubble man! I am going to sawzaw the floorboards out!

  • @london1817 lol well you cant get any greener than that. :)

  • Try removing one spark plug wire at a time with the engine running. The knock will quit when you locate the cylinder with the problem. Once you find which cylinder it is drop the pan and check the rod bearing clearance, it should be .001 to .0015. You can use plastic gauge to check clearance. Does the noise go away after engine is warm,if so then it is piston slap.

  • @hairy440 It makes this noise always. If the motor is cranked it sounds like this

    the whole time.

  • sounds like rod knock but to be sure put a long screw driver on the rocker cover then carefully put your ear on the handle and listen for the valves, but sounds bad run it anyway the worse that can happen is you'll need a tow and a replacement engine

  • @carrabec99 True! I have dying to 4x it til it blows!

  • Olde timer mechanis (me) don't use steths. We just hold a metal bar to the spot on the engine that you want to listen to and put your ear to it. You can hear perfectly that way. A long screwdriver will work too. I would go with the least invasive check which would be lifters that might need a slight tightening/adjusting. It's just a matter of removing the valve cover. Worked like a charm with my Toyota truck. Good luck!

  • @Praxxus55712 I will try that! Thank you.

  • A Valve is more of a tick. This is a rod bearing. I have a motor at the shop you can have cheap, but the shipping would kill the deal lol

  • @ShawnCFarm Maybe I could just pick it up! What state are you in? Maybe I could ship it.

  • @london1817 Ont Canada lol

  • @ShawnCFarm Oh wait...thats a good ways & a couple country miles from here! Haha...Thanks but I might just try to rebuild this one. Thank you though!

  • a cheap scope would help. could be just a lifter i hear but more then likely a rod knock .

make sure the oil gauge is hooked up, Been there before too =0

  • @czarwright Thats true I shold get one . thank you!

  • Did this engine sit with out coolant for a while? If So look at the water pump. If it is belt driver Remove the Belt and do a short run with out it. Mine knocked and I could not Locate the sound, the sound rang throughout the water system. The bearing is coolant lubricated and shrinks with out coolant! Good luck!

  • @H2O2FromH20 No. It ran good. then one day it just started making that noise.

  • @london1817 I would still conciser the water pump, but check the the rod with the removal of the Spark and Yes the long Metallic Rod to the Ear does work.

  • You can use a cheap stethiscope sp? to find out which one.

  • Sounds like the lifter to rod. If it is bent you'll have to replace, maybe try some lucus additive.

  • @TheJeffofalltrades Thats a good idea! I don't want to change motors.

  • Is it an overhead cam engine? It could be the push rod for the lifter for the valve? It could be bent? The valve wouldn't be opening/closing properly, and the plug would get fouled. I'm guessing here. IF it is, it's not that big a deal. Some work to tear the top apart, pull the rod out, and drop another in. You may have to install, run it, and then adjust it after a bit. Someone has the instructions for that engine.

  • @bigc028282 It is a overhead cam. I will check the plugs. Thanks.

  • Most def sounds like a rod knock...

Touch the block and see if you can "feel" the knock more on one side of the block or on the head.

  • @WizzleThump Agreed, big time rod knock!

  • @hangingaround87 C'mon man ...maybe it will just go away! haha

  • @WizzleThump You can feel it a little. pretty soon it will be out the side.

  • @london1817 any one really know what this sound really is? I have the same problem and i want to know wheres that noise coming from.
