I have a gaming addiction, this has been going on for the past two years, I used to very popular before I started playing Online MMO's then I switched to Xbox and in all the two years I have lost all my friends, I struggle with conversations, I don't have a girlfriend I can't seem to get a job because my social skills are now non existant and I don't exercise at all anymore and I chose to play games rather than revise everytime.
How to stop someone from playing games even with internet cafes? Cut their allowance. Wait, the guy has a job, so he can pay for it himself? THEN WHAT IS THE PROBLEM!?!?!?

It is not the game that is addicting I play black ops probably 6-7 hours a day on weekends (mostly at night from like 7pm-4am im a late person) and I only play for about an hour is none of my friends are online. My dad used to limit my gaming time to weekends only. Then I moved to my mothers house. Which means, that there is no limit what so ever. My school grades shot up, when I moved to my mothers house. I need at least, 1 hour of vgames to relieve stress.

Staying on the computer is not like being addicted to sports. Playing stimulates the brain. But online gaming fills your head withs swords guns etc. which rots the brain. Playing online for 5 hours is sitting and clicking but moving is better.

Addication is a choice not a disease, and seriously every topical paper i've done that has to have counterpoints, i choose this. People in general don't realise that games aren't evil, in a sense they're educational. I learned high school level vocabulary when i was a kid, from just playing final fantasy for hours. Sure its a waste of time, but people waste they're time on dumber things.

This isnt unrealistic, dont know why they re makin a big deal, gamers consist of lil kids, teenagers, and adults. The kids have nothing to do, so they game all day, teenagers have nothing to do, they might have a part time job like what 2 days. They chose to spend their free time , all day in the mall, all day at home, either way ur being social, cuz ur gamin. Adults have no parents on their bak, they get home from work , play all night.

i like how people say im addicted to xbox, yet most adults i know sit on their asses all day and watch tv, seems like when most of the population, mostly adults are addicted to television..its suddenly ok but when us kids/teenagers wanna play video games while the adults watch tv ..uh no we cant have that something must be done..."lets complain about pointless things that our children may be experiencing/enjoying..hopefully we can get money off this."

As long as you do what you need to do, it's no problem to play. I always do my homework and do stuff around the house, then I play games. But it should be okay to do w/e you want to do,like how the guy plays games a lot, as long as it isn't interfering with your life.

People who find gaming as an addiction so badly they cannot stop are most likely suffering from a disorder or something.
Seriously, I play games and stop playing whenever I feel like.
Its kinda sad how many people may call you addicted because you spend one day gaming 5 hours in a row... I mean seriously, perhaps we are just playing because we are bored, because we just came from school etc.
Gaming is not exactly dangerous... its just a way to sphere some time ;)

Dam I have an addiction...I can play League of Legend for 14+hrs straight.and everyday off work..just to lose cuz of MM system blows. I just uninstall all my PC games today and wrote a big note in my FACE. Hopefully i can stop wasting my life and focus on a better future.

It is not the game that is addicting I play black ops probably 6-7 hours a day on weekends (mostly at night from like 7pm-4am im a late person) and I only play for about an hour is none of my friends are online. I hate any game that Im not talking to actual people. It is defiantly a social addiction and that is more of a positive thing. I think most gamer would agree with this because it is true.

My dad used to limit my gaming time to weekends only. Then I moved to my mothers house. Which means, that there is no limit what so ever. My school grades shot up, when I moved to my mothers house. I need at least, 1 hour of vgames to relieve stress.

ZOMFG! it is so sad i almost felt like crying. BUT I AM TO MANLY TO DO SUCH A THING!(jk we all do it, >.> Denying meant you cried recently[not officially] ) But seriously, kid gives a good reason, i mean if the kid wanted to go skateboard or play chess, if the parents accept it then its perfectly fine, but some parents are not accepting of it. Ive been gaming ever since i was little and my parents at times were against it but they know now that its not a problem(though they blame stuff on games)

Oh and this father needs to get a life. His kid does what is needed hell he dosent even spend more than 5 hours a day. He goes to school, goes out with friends. All this "Gaming Addictiong" is is the media labling people who spend more than the "Normal" amount of time on a computer to have something wrong with them, some kind of a desease that is bad and should not be. So wait doing something you love constantly is bad? Sure I play on and off throughout my day, I spend most of my time behind my computer and xbox but that dosent mean im adicted does it? It just means I am doing something that I find fun, Im not fat, sure im not fit but I am health, I go to school, I constantly get up and spend 5 mins with family making conversation, Get out of my room at were my family is in the lounge. Go bck to my room at about 7 most nights.

@GrandDesignsSims I am not addicted to my computer even though I spend the same amount of time as addicts. The reason is because I can pull myself away from the game and do something with my family, cleen up something around the house. I do not need to get to that next level as soon as possable, sure when I am in the midle of a game I would like 5 mins to complete it but after that I get up and do whats needed.

well the media are always filling our minds about how unsafe it is outside, and how gun crime and knife crime an shit is on the rise, so what do they expect?
were not encouraged to go out and socialise anymore, and when we find other ways to have fun and socialise its the start of the apocalypse all of a sudden.

Staying on the computer is not like being addicted to sports. Playing stimulates the brain. But online gaming fills your head withs swords guns etc. which rots the brain. Playing online for 5 hours is sitting and clicking but moving is better.

Addication is a choice not a disease, and seriously every topical paper i've done that has to have counterpoints, i choose this. People in general don't realise that games aren't evil, in a sense they're educational. I learned high school level vocabulary when i was a kid, from just playing final fantasy for hours. Sure its a waste of time, but people waste they're time on dumber things.

Gaming is NOT an addiction, it is a passion. I mean ffs you can be addicted to your sport, job etc. and people don't give a shit. But when you start playing a video game which in some cases can even make you more intelligent, then that's a big no no.

what i think to be fair is that gaming and computing is still a young industry and hasn't won over the older generation purely because it isn't what they are used to and they have no idea how deep it goes. but i still agree that it was an addiction for me, im a grade 4 guitarist and i could have easily been grade 7 by now if not for gaming, but if you want to spend time on games then fair enough, the older generation shouldn't have a problem in enjoying your hobby, it isn't right

@GRKiller That isn't entirely true. Gaming causes emotional responses, emotional responses are governed by brain chemistry. In fact all addiction including substance addiction is the result of attempting to trigger the chemical rewards offered by the brain, not the substance or activity itself.

@GRKiller I know anything can be addictive, but if you look around you at how long people typically spend on games and then how many hours typically a bball player play bball then it's not hard to see that gamesers spend way more time on games than a avarage bball player does playing bball. I'm not attacking games, I am a huge gamer,it's just I am writing a paper on this and it's so misunderstood. Gamers seems to get verty defensive over this, ANYTHING can be addictive, games are no exceptions.
