While the death of Ronan Kerr is both sad & tragic, let's reflect on the men & women of the RUC who laided down their lives to try & make Northern Ireland a better place. Let us not forget the catholic officers who served in the RUC against a far greater risk when the IRA was at the height of it's murderous campaign & stopped many decent law abiding catholics from joining & serving the community. It is sad when the death of Constable Kerr has been used as nothing more than a PR exercise by many.
Great to hear "raaaager n at uniform" once again. By Christ, we could put on a show back then; it makes me even more frustrated to see the drop in standards of today. Old men with memories are never the most objective though.
My regards to all ex-colleagues, with the exception of those who write books and give interviews slagging off the branch.
even though Demonised by republicains, they were very proffesional and served both sides of the community with honour and integrity under testing times,
Hat's off to all Former RUC officers, Army and their families. As the Son as a former RUC officer, it's amazing how their fearless efforts affected families. It's just sad people can't see that they were just normal human being's following orders to protect all. To the Fallen, we will always remember, to the hero's that are, you have served well and may we all serve a peaceful live thanks to your corrageous efforts!
@karateka73 great video mate,my dad served for many years in northern Ireland in the army along with my uncle his brother in the RUC and they were so proud to serve their country against people against peace trying to wreck our country!!Ive cousins serving in the PSNI who served in the RUC and were involved in the change over to PSNI,not sure its changed any attitudes towards the police in n.ire though!!!!!and as for @Mr rock, what can i say???another clueless yank who clearly doesn't have a clue
Hat off to you, a brilliant video. With Youtube awash with idiots posting rubbish glorifying dirty scum terrorists, its brilliant to see a video commemorating the real heroes of the hour. We all owe the Royal Ulster Constabulary a debt of gratitude.
To be a soldier in any war is not good but they had no right to be there they got what they we asking for when you kill people for no good reason other then that there are from the south or north .They should think about that before they try to take someone land.
From someone who lives in the USA, you have no real understanding of what went on here. The "IRA" etc were terrorists who killed innocent people who wanted to go about their daily lives. That is why USA is involved in Iraq and Afghanistan - to stop terrorism!!!
@Karateka73 Yes I'm from the states but that has nothing to do with what I know of the troulbes I'm second geneartion and most of my family fought for Irish freedom but all I was saying was that your father was a brave man because he did what his country asked of him but not all country are right and England should never had step foot in a anothing land so before you blame my Irish friends and family for killing asks you self why your their to begin with
@MrRock1331 If your family or friends have killed then let them explain it to their maker. The RUC stood for the laws of the state in Northern Ireland. How you can justify terrorists, who hid behind masks and murdered people, not face to face but alot of the time from behind their backs, words can not describe. How dare you comment on my father or about my video - I would be most grateful if you took yourself off my page. Thank you
@MrRock1331 what are you talking about????1/3 0f the soldiers murdered in northern ireland were from northern ireland in the UDR regiment of the british army and n.ire was involved in both world wars and belfast suffered the 2nd highest loss of life in 1night (1000 civilians) killed under nazi bombing so how can you say the army shouldnt have been there??your another clueless yank!!the majority of n.ire people support the police/army!!my father was in the british army and hes belfast born/bread!
@MrRock1331 You do realise that the overwhelming majority of RUC members were from Northern Ireland? These were people who tried to keep the peace in their own country, they weren't sent from England or anywhere else. There is no difference between the IRA and those who committed 9/11 other than the banner they fight under. Those who were killed on 9/11 were innocents, just like those who were killed in Enniskillen and Omagh. You should read a history book before coming on here to mouth off.
what a moving tribute to all the brave men and women protestant and Catholic alike who wore that uniform with pride day day out never knowing if they would be coming home in the evening alive or worse. they were the thin green line and we should never ever forget the ultimate sacrifice made by so many to keep the streets of Northern Ireland safer for everyone
for bad men to succeed good men must only do nothing. To anyone who served in the ruc during and darkest days and to those who stand against the new threat i thank you. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten.
What memories you have brought flooding back to me. My father was in the R.U.C. and now in the P.S.N.I about to retire. He lost so many friends over the years but always looked to protect those around him both catholic and prodestant. God bless them all.
Yet again we are drawn back to the dark days of the past - my thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the 2 soldiers and the police officer murdered by cowards.
im from the south and im catholic but i cant help but admire the resolve of the R.U.C the things they dealt with where unbelieveable my condolances to the familiesof those lost and to the families of the two young soldiers killed in the north this week
sat and cried at this... just in off night shift,,, absolutely loved the one of the wpcs with legs crossed.... still wear my skirt
lots of those pics brought back sweet and very sour memories.... am working this sunday 4 the rir parade... this and the following week will remember all 302 of our fallen colleagues as well as our mates in the armed forces and all those innocent civillians... God rest and here's to when we meet again
I wiil never forget the sacrifices that you and you colleagues made.you should be proud to have worn your uniform, without officers like you, were would we be now.god bless you all.thank you.
Thank you for doing this Kareteka73. You are a good 'un.
