@radioheadsunburn Because Cove fucked his own voice up (smoking cigarettes is a HORRIBLY fail idea if you're trying to be a good vocalist) and the rest of the band, especially Justin, got pissed off at the way he couldn't sing excellently live anymore - so they decided to kick him out. IMO that was a wrong-ass move on their part but Cove's voice did get a lot weaker than when he recorded Saosin's first album back in 2006.

@methanedirigible actually, that quivering sound, is his throat straining from how much he is pushing it... Autotune isn't trying to work out the note, it's his freakin vocal chords. He hits notes that are out of key on the dvd. That itself proves he isn't using autotune. Autotune puts every note into a key... that is not being done here. and seeing as beau, the rhythm guitarist is a producer himself, i assure you that if he did something to it, he would've made it a whole lot better than this.

there actually is a filter you can use via your laptop that provides the pitch correction and vocorder effect. just so you know. lol. but what they do with this type of thing is that they specially have the vocals set up to be able to touch up after the show for the video. everyone does it. i saw HelloGoodbye in HB and they were borderline terrible and in the dvd they were all edited. theres no way you get a sound like that live. ESPECIALLY not from Cove. no offence

Cove sucks live. in this video hes good because they use Vocal Compression and pitch correction in post production of the DVD. Basically what they do is record all parts of the band, process it, edit it, then put it back on the soundtrack of the video.
