  • A great arraingment for a favorite song. I truely enjoyed listening to it.

  • Best rendition of 'We Remember' EVER!! it really makes me want to jam out with Christ

  • Wow, one can surely feel the Holy Spirit! Awesome to hear the many talents in this choir praising God! Thank you and God Bless

  • choir member behind the altar? that seems wrong...

  • Of course I am, but nothing in the documents of the Second Vatican Council (or since it) have suggested any different to what he said. I'm certain it's only people who haven't read the documents of the council (and those since) that bring the Council up as a reason for having songs like the one in this video. If you read the GIRM, gregorian chant still has pride of place as it is proper to the Liturgy. The Council also never suggested we get rid of communion rails, Latin etc. etc.

  • Kittieconvoy: are you aware that Pius X is half-a-century pre-Vatican II? And that William Taft (Pius X's contemporary) isn't in the White House anymore?

  • I have a real problem with this sort of arrangement at a Catholic Mass. Drums and piano/keyboards are banned from use during mass, for a start, and the arrangement is definitely not appropriate considering the sacred nature of the liturgical act.

  • @kittieconvoy why is it inappropriate, or not sacred?

  • @malbertmacl If you read any instruction on sacred music in the liturgy, you will se that this is inappropriate. Some of the instruments played in this video have been explicitly banned from use in the Mass.

"The more closely a composition for church approaches in its movement, inspiration and savor the Gregorian form, the more sacred and liturgical it becomes; and the more out of harmony it is with that supreme model, the less worthy it is of the temple.' (Pope Pius X)

  • What beautiful voices....I find such comfort in this hymn

  • What beautiful voices....I find such comfort in this hymn

  • Marty Haugen himself wrote: "I do not think of my own music as central or important to Roman Catholic worship, present or future". BOY is he right!! I just wish most Catholic pastors and their parish "musical directors" felt the same way.

  • This is awesome! I am totally moved by this. You guys are the best! Keep it up!

  • This is one of my favorite songs in and out of the church to sing. A very spiritual song which praises God for his Son's Love for us all, God Bless!

  • This church is in Santa Monica, California. Very, very popular parish. This is their 5:30 mass. Helena is amazing. They have a great youth choir (Monica's Joy) also that sings at 1:15 and has videos here.

  • we sing this at my church sometimes but we use an organ

  • where is st monica catholic community ? i belong to st joan of arc in minneapolis mn

  • Awesome version of this song... one of my favorites and it is nicely done!

  • We actually have this song sung during our mass in one of the district Catholic Church in Hong Kong. But with organ and acoustic guitar as background. And this is one of the best hymns i ve ever heard.

  • the music and the song are great, i like it very much BUT it is not appropriate for the occasion.

You would choose carefully the songs that you sing and how you would sing them if you were singing for a dignitary. So why not for the Lord really, truly and substantially present at the Holy Sacrifice? This I believe is what MFCatholic and brestull were trying to say - choose music for the appropriate occasion.

In any case this is a solemn Mass, not just a mere gathering.

  • "@" i love this song

  • This is not proper liturgical music. Totally inappropriate for Mass. Sounds like it belongs on some smooth jazz, easy listening station. Jazz music is not allowed during Mass. Just listen to the chord progression. The guitar progressions are just like what I did in jazz bands in highschool and college.

  • @MFCatholic AMEN!!!

  • Ive never heard any thing like this before. I must say it is absolutely lovely and inspiring. Its a Catholic classic to be sure, yet with a reverent jazz twist. Beautifully played and sung. Paul from California

  • Beautiful music. The altar is not the place for the choir though. The summit of the liturgy happens in the altar: the consecration of the bread and wine. Our focus is in Jesus. The choir behind is distracting

  • The extra instruments and embellished accompaniment are both highly inappropriate for the Palm Sunday and / or Good Friday Liturgies. Read the General Instruction of the Roman Missal . . .

  • @brestull But isn't the most important thing of singing at church is to praise God and to hold and heed the message of the song. Extra instruments and embellished accompaniment doesn't make it less meaningful no matter what time of the year in the church it is. Why do you focus on the minor technicalities in a rule book anyways? Does making the song more interesting make it that much less pleasing to God? Get some common sense please. Really think about what you are saying.

  • The music is wonderful but I agree with the other posters that the chior should not be standing where they are.

  • Comment removed

  • Choir should not be standing in the sanctuary. That is a big no no. Your liturgist might want to check up on where the choir should stand.

Other than that, I like it. Nice job.

  • i do agree about the sanctuary, a big no no, but you are right, great version of this beautiful hymn

  • I love this hymn but it is not meant to be sung or played like some tv evangelest show. No wonder the Pope is cracking down on us. We don't need this kind of show at Mass. I feel like I am at a Protestant church and not a Catholic one.

  • there was a reason for Vatican Council II - "open your doors wide to Christ" They have done a fabulous job! This is what pope JPII talked about in Novo Millenium Ineunte, that we need a new evangelisation, not in contents, but in its forms, its expressions.

  • @brestull That man has not moral athroutity anymore as far as I am concerned. He is a hypocrite and a liar.

  • @auntbecky Maybe. But, there's nothing anyone can do about it. He is the pontiff. No one can "fire" him.

  • This was sung at my church. Beautiful song.

  • just asking, is the choir standing on the sanctuary?

  • I really love the song ! Praise God!

  • I love how the cantor doesn't go crucially high when she sings this song. Not like my church cantors who HAVE to hit the high notes.

  • i really love this song. im very inspired.

  • nice video, can share the chords to this beautiful song?

  • This one incredible song-- and arrangement! Thank you and God Bless you. I happened to be searching just minutes after you posted this! Where is this church located?

  • This church is located in Santa Monica, California, United States - on the corner of California and 7th. Helena sang at my wedding and delivered some of the most amazing versions of Ave Maria and Amazing Grace... moving some of the guests to tears. The posted songs here don't do the proper justice to her inspiring work. Hope you have the opportunity someday to hear her in person or a recording in which you can experience her incredible gift! Wonderfully talented.
