Yeah I think it's a damn shame,
IMHO The Savoy should have been made into a landmark, It certainly was historically as important as The Cotton Club and The Village Vanguard.

I think that there is a brief picture of Roy Eldridge playing trumpet - but he is not on the soundtrack.

I would think that the track is just overdubbed because the quality of the original recording was probably very poor.
I really think this is Chick Webb and his orchestra

There is tons more footage at the Smithsonian and the Linconl Arts Center Film Archive. This clip was pulled from "Do The Jitterbug" a documentary made in Sweden in the 1980's (Anyone interested in Lindy Hop should watch it!)

chick webb's orchestra was the house band at the savoy from 1931 until his death in 39! why wouldn't that be chick webb?
