after hearing this for months when i couldn't find the original version on youtube,, i gotta say i like this one as much if not more ,,, god bless this man :)
she looked into my soul by the clothes that i wore, she said we got a mutual friend standing at the door and you know hes got our best interest in mind,, genius
I'll be the portly guy with all his hair cut short next to Slim Tim (grey, thinning) and two handsome 30-pluses, Alex & Terry. Bobby will be the frail fellow on stage who has shaped all our lives...
where does this song come from .. i know slow train-saved-shot of love but cant place this one.....? great song by the way love the way he sings here ... the sound is great too
@consterned aah ok .. thats a box i dont have .. many new songs on it ?? in fact i mostly dont buy boxes cause its all a bit of the same again but ok i could expect other songs from dylan
Like a rattle snake does! I agree Shot of Love was a beauty. Think 'Up To Me' was about the same timer, another Dylan classic that never got on an album (maybe it was B.O.T.T.). No one does Dylan classics like Dylan does - not even a rattle snake. Get ready to welcome him, Dear God. xx
Those 3 albums- Saved, Shot of Love, Slow Train Coming...are fu*king fantastic. It may have been a confusing time for fans and critics, but it was one of Dylan's most creative periods. The music is spot on and the lyrics came straight from the gut. I was 8 years old when Slow Train came out and I first saw him in concert. As a life long Dylan fan, I find this period in his career fascinating. Thank you for posting!
This is just a PERFECT Dylan song! The beat, the phrases, the instruments he picked, his diction, his voice he used in this song (one of many of his voices) & superbly performed. Such a difficult song to pull off, yet Bob sings it flawlessly. Genius is the only word I can think of even though I know he doesn't like to hear that term.
Life....without Dylan......let's just say I may not have made it. Doesn't matter what life casts at me as long as I have the Lord & Dylan I know I can make it!
@Gazza63 Yep, I realize that. The point I was trying to make was that Bob does such a great job of singing such a hard song to sing. Obviously I did a poor job! :-)
wow, the sound quality on this video is amazing. Absolutely beautiful song, a tropical visions of Johanna tinged in heartfelt spirituality and genuine human nobility. But ya'll knew that already.
I'd like to get my handson the live version I had it and lost it, possibly my favorite Dylan song.... I would like to hear something like this with music more like the biograph version... Is such a take available on any" imports"?
Thanks for sharing this! Comparing it to the various other versions is a fascinating experience. Still not sure whether I prefer this or the biograph version.
Bob, you have to release this outtake! We love it!

This is easily the best version I have heard of this song which must be one of the hardest Dylan songs for anyone to sing. Thanks for uploading it.
