Cenk makes a good point. The establishment is trying to divide. I believe that homosexuality is not right, but this is not a basis for denying people their rights OR discriminating against them in any way. This country has a long history of dividing the general population based on arbitrary characteristics: colonists, blacks, catholics, jews, germans, chinese, japanese, etc. Prejudice must die with the older generations.

@ET2H The urge to have sex with animals is clearly very rare, and is associated with very unhealthy behaviors. Homosexuality however, is a standard feature of any human population. It is very common in many animal species, especially primates (look up our closest cousins the Bonobos - they are super gay). Homosexuality is not 100% determined by genetics, but it is clearly biological in origin and it is not a choice. Being gay is natural and does not hurt anyone. It's not contagious. Get over it.

The burden of proof, therefore, is on the advocates of gay marriage to show what state interest these marriages serve. Thus far, this burden has not been met.

I don't understand the crazy opposition to gay marriage. If you are hetero, don't you want gays to marry each other rather than trying to live a fake straight life and marrying you or your children and then ultimately having an unhappy ending for all involved? What is the downside to letting gays marry each other? I just don't get it.

The opposition to gay marriage comes from simple selfishness on the part of religious people because they have had an exclusive ability to use the term "marriage" for the last 2000 years.
As time progresses and younger generations come of age attitudes will change and gay marriage will be approved.

@Freenetnow Do you realize how difficult it was for women to gain the right to vote across the 50 states? Anytime woman's suffrage was brought to the table to be voted upon, it failed. The same thing can be said about the legality of Slavery in the 18th century. For YEARS, slavery was legal despite people fighting against it. During their time, the abolitionist, woman's rights, and civil rights movements seemed impossible and yet, inevitably, progress happened.

Also, it is well understood by most of the scientific community that homosexuality is perfectly natural and genetic. Meaning: you do NOT choose to be gay. And "frankly" we live in a country that separates church and state and unless there is any reasoning, aside from the bible, that gay marriage is wrong this should be a non issue.

Gay people will continue to exist whether there is religion or not, it becomes a problem when religious people try to tell others that their way of life is "wrong." ... They should really just mind their own god damn business and let other people, who do NOT believe in the bible, to live their lives.

The ruling was NOT 5-4 (in favor of states' rights, anyway, quite the OPPOSITE) on the VOTER REFERENDUM on *state* Amendment 2 added to the COLORADO state constitution in Romer v. Evans, 1996. (LOOK...IT...UP). The ruling was NOT (even) 5-4, it was 6-3, on the Lawrence v. Texas case, 2003. The Class C Misdemeanor was not placed by voter referendum, it was placed by an antiquated Texas State Legislature, but STILL...states' rights LOST (and badly) there, too.
