We have a farm in the Dominican Republic and my heart cries to see the beautiful jungle being burnt away slowly bit surely... There aren't too many animals here, not sure why they probably killed them all. When we moved to our farm there were no birds, the people ate them and cut away their source of food... now it's a sanctuary and full of birdsong. The people need to be educated... but it's the same in America, wild animals pushed away from their natural habitat for cattle and agriculture

Madagascar is gnna look like HAITI soon... They should have made that whole island a park in the early 1900's or somethin. I mean it wasn't that hard to move whole populations around back then...well they did it atleast o.O

@kragger1985 There are several reasons it does not help: 1) Parson's chameleons do not do well in small cages in captivity 2) Captive animals do not help wild populations at all 3) You cannot turn captive animals to the wild, especially if there is no habitat in which to return them.
@mikefry I'd have to disagree with you on that one. Due to Parson's females breeding habits....eggs could be collected or quarantined....and protected. Much like sea turtles have been. No question habitat has to be set aside which then gets into politics. One thing rings true in third world countries....money talks. Branson should be putting his money into conserving habitat on Madagascar rather than moving Lemurs to some Caribbean island. Where there's a will....there's a way.
Now you can see why I like Parson's chameleon's, but there's a crisis and Parson's chameleons in danger. I like to start forrest fires and watch the chameleons burn.
facts are when parsons chameleons are extremely close to being extinct someone will come up and save them, or make new laws, like wildlife conservationists facts are parsons chameleons probably arent going anywhere for a good while, there honestly is something to worry about though, but not currently
This is sad to hear but comments like those made by the racist dick head below isn't going to help. What will help is the scaling back of the unnecessary consumer culture perpetuated by the country he lives in, a culture that completely rapes the planet. That and better education about family planning to prevent population growth.
Then I guess that makes you just one more in the sea of moronic Racist Leftwingers that LOVE to be dismissive of others comments by baselessly calling others 'racist'.
Is calling peeps racist the ONLY way you can win a failing argument you bigoted zealot extreamists know.
We OWNS the Earth completly ! it's in our own intrest to save Madagascar from Humanity ! :( Fuck 20 million poor ass un graceful humans that are more likly to emigrate to a city somewhere and rob your ass someday than a chameleon is to ever hurt anybody.
Save the chams not to mention the other countless species there on Madagascar!
That said, this just goes to show you that a good Education (and not communistic like acts of MaSS Murder) of the people of Maddagascars is such a good idea.
Since you Hippycritical hate mongers that you all are, are so willing to sacrifice lives of 20 million OTHER humans (and Never your own) lives, over some Admitantly Cute Chameleons, then it will be a nice day in the Future when a population lottery is created (Likely by yourselves) to see who goes Next... And Your names are the ones to come up. And on that day We can ALL get a laugh from the just Irony of it-LOL
Mr. Fry, This was a beautiful video. Ch.Parsoni are some of my absolute favorite animals, and I, being a chameleon lover, have followed (less than I should) the expanding population of Madagascar with bated breath. Thank you for bringing to attention some of the animals that get overlooked in the scramble. It would truely be a disaster to lose these beautiful animals and I hope that something is done to protect them.

I'd be willing to sacrifice the humans on that island anyday for the sake of the chams! only so many of them compared to 6 billion of us!
