Miss USA should've made the cut at least in top 5. She looks best in her evening gown. I think the strongest contest from Asia in 1988, is Miss Korea but her evening gown looks like a wedding dress. I dont' really care for it, but she is cute too!

uno de los peores Miss Universo de la historia. recuerdo q seguía anualmente este concurso, pero desde ese año de 1988 le perdí la confianza y la credibilidad a este evento, al punto que dejé de verlo y encima en el Perú ya ningún canal lo transmitía ya que no era rentable. Ahoira siempre ganan las que no deben.
En el diario Últimas Noticias (de Venezuela) apareció una nota en su página de farándula que titulaba: "Miss Universo, un show sin emoción, aunque de una escenografía espectacular".
En la revista "Venezuela Gráfica" también de la Cadena Capriles apareció un reportaje que titulaba: "Venganza asiática en el Miss Universo"

i think the only person who did not deserve to be in the top 5 was miss japan... i would have put miss dominican republic in her place. in my opinion, thailand and korea were the two best, but definitely dominican republic should be 3rd.

De las 5, mi favorita era Miss Korea... muy radiante, fresca,angelical y con ese vestido tan espectacular... Miss Tailandia con esa narizota tan fea, Miss Mexico es una gran persona pero se veia de cara como muy gorda, y las otras dos no merecian estar en el cuadro.

If Geraldine Asis from the Philippines was the delegate for MU 1988 Mexico would not be even in the Top 5, Porntip would had her run for the money, and it would be Asia ruling the Top 5 in the Universe...
I disagree with the comments dismissing the eligibility of the non-Latina/Western finalists. 1988 was refreshing because it gave Asian beauties their due. Asia and other non-Latin American regions have been sending great delegates, and they're often overlooked. I'm glad they're being recognized in previous editions of MU. I hope what we witnessed in 2007 continues...and it's not just a fluke.
comparing with 2007, Miss Korea 1988 ( Miss Chang )is more beautiful than Miss Korea 2007 ( Honey Lee ). Miss Chang looked natural unlike Honey who had undergone various plastic surgeries. We could see a lot difference between the 2 Misses Japan. Mizuho ( 1988 ) was beautiful, sweet and innocent looking whereas Miss Universe 2007 winner Riyo is not that beautiful but she is one sophisticated, confident lady.
I looked at a lot of Honey Lee's photos throughout her childhood, and she is actually really similar but much thinner. she have said "I have never undergone any prastic surgery" I believe that. I've seen interviews with her and she's very religious (she was a missionary!) and went to Seoul University which is the top school in Korea.

What do you mean Miss USA doesn't look fresh ? She pulled her hair back so she looks a little bit older, but she is beautiful with a great personality. Look at her grace and beauty. Miss USA should've made the cut at least in top 5. She looks best in her evening gown. I think the strongest contest from Asia in 1988, is Miss Korea but her evening gown looks like a wedding dress. I dont' really care for it, but she is cute too!

uno de los peores Miss Universo de la historia. recuerdo q seguía anualmente este concurso, pero desde ese año de 1988 le perdí la confianza y la credibilidad a este evento, al punto que dejé de verlo y encima en el Perú ya ningún canal lo transmitía ya que no era rentable. Bueno soy de Puebla Mexico, y aqui si suena el nombre de Amanda, ella sola se retiro cuando se caso con un millorario araba de la ciudad, se que procreo a un hijo con capacidades diferentes y despues se volvio al Cristianismo, en ese entonces Amanda, fue de las que lucho, patrocino muchos gastos por si misma, ejemplo el vestido, pero eran otros tiempos... Actualmente se dedica a la politica y a su familia, pero es una excelente persona y un gran ser humano...

I disagree with the comments dismissing the eligibility of the non-Latina/Western finalists. 1988 was refreshing because it gave Asian beauties their due. Asia and other non-Latin American regions have been sending great delegates, and they're often overlooked. I'm glad they're being recognized in previous editions of MU. I hope what we witnessed in 2007 continues...and it's not just a fluke.

comparing with 2007, Miss Korea 1988 ( Miss Chang )is more beautiful than Miss Korea 2007 ( Honey Lee ). Miss Chang looked natural unlike Honey who had undergone various plastic surgeries. We could see a lot difference between the 2 Misses Japan. Mizuho ( 1988 ) was beautiful, sweet and innocent looking whereas Miss Universe 2007 winner Riyo is not that beautiful but she is one sophisticated, confident lady.

I looked at a lot of Honey Lee's photos throughout her childhood, and she is actually really similar but much thinner. she have said "I have never undergone any prastic surgery" I believe that. I've seen interviews with her and she's very religious (she was a missionary!) and went to Seoul University which is the top school in Korea.

Miss Hong Kong should have been replaced by Miss Dominican Republic. Miss Japan was fine though
