actually the kid didnt die in the car!! he was on the plane and he had food in hus mouth so when they hit the ground he choked annd died ON THE PLANE!!
That shot is the Southwest flight that overshot the runway at BUR a few years back. It missed those gas pumps by just feet. No serious injuries though and both pilots lost their jobs. The Chevron gas station is gone now as well and there is a reinforced fence at the end of the runway.
@tylerbm1997 Sorry he's talking about the LAST picture, the one that say's "OH MY GOD." No one died in that plane crash, and it happened close to where I live (Pasadena, California).
@2ndteam The plane didn't overshot the runway, but the pilot forgot the reverse thrust , and the second officer noticed it and activated it second later, after they touched down.
And there were ice on the runway, so even though the plane touched down at the right spot, it couldn't slow down fast enough.
And no serious injuries? A little boy were killed, when the plane smashed in to the car, after sliding of the runway...!!
Why the HELL were the pilots arrested? They can only do so much to stop the plane, and it didn't stop. Who told law enforcement to arrest them? Did they do it on their own?
They had been circling the airfield for some time in hopes of the airport clearing the runway, it was snowing heavily and the tower gave permission to land after stating the runway was clear enough. Tthe plane hit ice upon landling and uncontrollably skidded, they estimated that plane was doing almost 50 MPH when it left the runway. The pilots were arrested and handcuffed by the police, they wasted valuable time with the arrest instead of aiding the small boy. A real shame...R.I.P litle guy.
@aswedeson First of all... I know a lot about airliners. I have always been so fascinated with them. I feel very very bad for the boy who was in the back seat of that annihilated car, but it also makes me absolutely sick how someone would think to have the pilots arrested. They killed someone completely on accident, and they all rub it in. They probably felt horrible enough. The pilot didnt have control of the ginormous aircraft on ice. There was nothing they could do. They werent irresponsible.
Yes....this plane overshot the icey runway ..smashing into a car that killed a 6 yr old boy from a small in NW Indiana town ...called Leroy. Not far from my home..at the wrong place...at the wrong time!!!.Very sad............... R.I.P little man
Hold it! That last one was from Southwest 1455, but don't get me wrong. There were some similarities between 1455 and 1248, especially in regards to the cause of both crashes.
@southwest1998 Yes, that's one of the differences between the two. A can tell you a couple others. 1455 was landing in a very nice night while 1248 was landing in a winter storm. 1455 was also in Southwest's older tan livery while 1248 was in the current canyon blue livery. And I mentioned another difference already. 1455 was in Burbank, California. 1248 was at Chicago's Midway Airport.
@germanname1990 I totally disagree with the pilots being arrested. They couldnt do anything about the damn crash. ATC commands told them to land, so they landed. They were in the middle of a freakin' winter storm, trying to land a 70,000 pound aircraft on ice with a road behind it. Thanks law enforcement! They felt bad enough for ACCIDENTALLY being involved in a fatalily. Now, You arrest them, and rub it in and make their lives more f*ckin' miserable? GREAT JOB ASSHOLES
@abm92296 the PILOT IN COMMAND can decide to abort an approach and divert to a safer more reasonable airport (say Chicago O'Hare just a few miles away). Southwest pilots always push the envelope like taking off with a tailwind or deciding to land on an icy runway while coming in too high and too fast. 100% pilot error.
@lafayette2285 I see what you are saying, but aswedeson^ said that the control towers gave them full permission to land. I dont really understand how the pilots themselves could see that there is ice on the runway when they are at that height. The pilot can observe coinditions around the aircraft, or feel how the plane is cooperating and handling... Everyone blames the pilot when they dont realize that there are so many other things envolved with your average everyday flight... notjust thepilot
@abm92296 yes, midway was not shut down totally like it should've been, but pilots landing before Southwest 1248 reported very poor braking action, and the pilot landed the aircraft too fast. Other Southwest pilots were smart and diverted to Chicago O'Hare.
In the end, it will be pilot error because of poor judgement to land on an extremely short runway in poor meteorological conditions. Just because you are cleared to land doesn't mean you have to land. That should be totally clear.
@lafayette2285 I agree somewhat.... The pilot still can't determine if there is ice on the ground... hell nah thats the people on the ground job. If ther were no ice it prolly wouldn't happened lol that was the point i was trying to make
@PeacefulHippogriff Yeah. You know, I actually saw this in person. I live just about a mile east of where the crash occured. And believe it or not, everyone was making a big deal about this other crash that happened about forty or something years ago while all I was thinking about Southwest 1455. I never been in California, but I heard about it about a couple years before this crash occured.
Lol at the end OMG! look at those gas prices....
