wish he would've used the slide a little more...ya know? kinda expected someone playing the superbone to actually "play" it, not just use the valves predominantly and using the slide just for falls. i've seen people who know how to "really play" the superbone have a flame coming outta the bell because they were so awesome using combinations of valve and slide. no that is a thing to see. good song none the less.
@hoot1976 The reason alot of it is valves is because alot of the bone parts, especially right from the beginning are too fast to be played on slide. If you played it on a slide, it would just sound like a big scoop and there would be no clarity at all.
I'm not saying I could play it as good as him (maybe with practice) but he did do a good job. Trombone is harder to play faster and play it right, but it shows that you have more skill when you can and I wish he would have done that. Sorry for my comment sounding like an insult, but I was just dissapointed with how he performed using mostly valves. By the way, isn't your username a little immature for a 39 year old? I guess you have the right to do so, but there are children here after all.
Hey, well why doesn't he play with the valves? I'm not saying he's bad (although it sounds like I am), just why doesn't he? Sorry I'm sounding so mean by saying he can't (he probably can) but the song is suposed to be played more with the slide and when needed, the valves. (I'm basing this off of Maynard Ferguson playing it.) When I see a superbone, I want to see it played both ways (slide and valves), not using the slide just for falls and glissandos. It is after all based off of a trombone.
Yeah and let me tell youhe still has his chops ... He lives in my city and helps my high school we played this chart and he played lead...... FLAWLESSLY
Yea i agree he should have used the slide more. Wouldve been a tad more interesting on his part to watch the slide fly

I know that's DiBlasio on bari, but is that Iron Mike Bogart from Tower of Power on bone? Sure looks like him from a few years ago

He can't play slide trombone at all. It's all valves, except for one note and a fall.
