I signed up to be a coach for my son's football (soccer in America) team, because he asked me to and I'm a sucker. I haven't the slightest clue about the rules of the game. What's the likelihood one can learn the basic rules (enough for an under 8 division... First division with refs!) in approximately 4 months?

@dreadsymmetry Don't worry about it at all! Last year I coached 6 year olds and then moved up to 12 year olds, and although I've played, the rules change and many other coaches I talked to didn't. Besides, at that age, all the kids really know is there's an offense, a defense, and you're not allowed to use your hands unless you're goalie! And with a ref, you don't need to know half the rules. Just enjoy coaching your son and watching the game!
