This movie was Amazing but the last 12 minutes was the worst bit of film I have seen In a long, long time! It completely ruined the entire movie for me! I left the movie shaking my head! Just the ending was just unbelieveably bad! Could have been an all around amazing movie!
I just watched this. It was awesome, apart from J.J Abram's over-use of those horrible lense flares...again. I thought it really worked well in Star Trek but they were highly annoying in this movie. And did you notice that the alien had the same yes as E.T? That was a nice touch.
Hey I have a concern about movies I've seen recently, the thing is, when I look at the movie it looks dark and and desaturated, then when I come home I see the trailers on youtube and the colors look nice and the luminosity is right, this has happened the last two films I' ve seen, Harry Potter and Super 8, none of them in 3D. I'd like to have your input on what could be wrong and if I should report this to my local theatres thanks! Also I've noticed it in more than one theatre.

i LOVED Super 8. and i agree that the ending wasnt what i was hoping for. now, me being horrified of E.T. and the fact that i love horror movies, the ending was definitely a let down. i thought it shouldve ended better.

i get that you are working on tell, but that chroma key is horrible. At least add a simple choker or something to make it half way decent. Disagree with review of Super 8. Although acting was good and story was decent, shaky camera work and over-the-top digital action scenes made this one feel a bit too much like a Michael Bay film rather than a Spielberg film.
I'm just so very tempted to be the guy that says something like, "Two people were in the train" or "Two people slipped and hit the dislike button because they were scared out of their mind".
The thing I was really excited about was only 1 second into the film, when the "amblin entertainment" production animation appeared :)... I hadn't seen that in a long time!

@technogameplayer Actually, we knew for a long while it was an alien. The first trailers spoil you on that by letting you know that a monster from Area 51 was being transported to Ohio, and the train it was in derailed and it was trying to escape. Later trailers revealed it succeeded in escaping. Everybody knows that in media, Area 51 ALWAYS means aliens. Thus, he really didn't spoil anything.

While I loved the kids and thought they did an amazing job, I was really disappointed in this film. The ending was sloppy and didn't make sense, that's a given. But the big creature hype should have lead to something other than just....well, an alien. A bit unoriginal I thought. And the fact that they barely show this creature except in dark areas is weak and a huge let down. The best part of the movie as the kids and the train wreck, which was fricken amaaazing. I expected more from Abrams.
I haven't seen the film yet. I hear lots of complaints about the ending. I've decided NOT to go see the film! I made my final decision based on the creature reveal at 1:22 in this review!! What a rip off.

This movie was like a highly polished mish-mash of one of the greatest movies of all time, and something that just didn't work. Everything that was focused on the kids was pure gold, while the side stories weren't fleshed out and felt wrong, derailing a brilliant picture. I really feel like the focus should have been on the kids the entire time.
I was super excited about this, because of JJ Abrams, Steven Spielberg, and Andrew Kramer. My friends and I went into this movie with very very high expectations and it completely delivered.
Although I don't know what was so disappointing about the end to Ryan.
I like this kind of review, short and compact. With these reviews i decide wether or not i should spend that $10 at the theatre. So keep them 1min reviews coming! :D

Great movie, for all the reasons you listed. I did think it was took loud at some times, but that coulda just been my theater.

Thought the cinematography was meh on this one tho. Other than that, loved it.

While I loved the kids and thought they did an amazing job, I was really disappointed in this film. The ending was sloppy and didn't make sense, that's a given. But the big creature hype should have lead to something other than just....well, an alien. A bit unoriginal I thought. And the fact that they barely show this creature except in dark areas is weak and a huge let down. The best part of the movie as the kids and the train wreck, which was fricken amaaazing. I expected more from Abrams.

I haven't seen the film yet. I hear lots of complaints about the ending. I've decided NOT to go see the film! I made my final decision based on the creature reveal at 1:22 in this review!! What a rip off.
I love Spielberg, but what was he thinking when he settled for THAT being the monster?!! I feel sorry for those that went and saw THAT come out of the box train!! Major disappointment.

@KingofPepsi Dude... that isn't the monster. The monster in the movie is actually about a 1/4 scale version of the one from "Cloverfield". Shut up and watch the movie before you start spewing a bunch of uninformed bullshit about a bunch of pictures that were randomly thrown up on the screen and had nothing to do with the movie.

The monster in Super 8 looks JUST LIKE the Cloverfield monster. You haven't seen seen the movie, I HAVE. This was the best movie I've seen in theaters since Inception. I was super excited for this movie about two weeks before Film State had it on the show. I've already seen it twice and hope to see it a few more times before it goes out of theaters.

I can't believe you compared this to Goonies, It was a good movie but not anything like Goonies (just having kids in a film doesn't mean its Gooniesque ). Also the marketing for the film lied, they billed it as a scifi/creature feature but what it was was a drama. It was more about the kids and their own personal problems with maybe 25% dealing with the "creature". I did like the movie,but I wanted to see an alien/creature film. its a C+,only the kids awesome acting held it together. wait 4 dvd

This movie was like a highly polished mish-mash of one of the greatest movies of all time, and something that just didn't work. Everything that was focused on the kids was pure gold, while the side stories weren't fleshed out and felt wrong, derailing a brilliant picture. I really feel like the focus should have been on the kids the entire time.

I was super excited about this, because of JJ Abrams, Steven Spielberg, and Andrew Kramer. My friends and I went into this movie with very very high expectations and it completely delivered.
Although I don't know what was so disappointing about the end to Ryan.
