My favorite characters definately were Lee Scoresby and Mrs Coulter.

Mary Malone and Farder Coram are far up, too.

The question about Lyra's death is a really good question, I wondered about this, too... =D

But it is not Metatron who told he is the oldest angel, it was the authority who later on gave his powers to metatron ^^

Did you also read "Once Upon A Time In The North" ? It is about how Iorek and Lee first met,it is a big longer than "Lyra's Oxford"and it is really cool!worth reading!

I liked this book a lot, allthough I actually prefer the subtle knife because Lee Scoresby, who is my favorite caracter, has his great actions in that book...

Loved Mrs Coulters development throughout the third book, she is such a complex character...

Mary Malone was interesting as well, such a small story she tells to the children means a lot to the prophecy.

I don't think that they had sex, Pullman describes everything in such a detail, he would have done it in this case too

Ok - there's a difference between anti-religious and anti-Christian. The book is very much against the power of the church, but doesn't mention Christ - and looking at our history of the Roman Catholic organisation it's hard not to understand his bitterness... Power is a very dangerous thing it seems

Christians are those that go to church. Other religions call their house of worship different things. By using the word church, it implies Christian.

I don't think Will and Lyra have sex, Pullman has more decency than to have a pair of twelve year olds go bump in the night. I think she keeps her Death, it's physically impossible to live without dying. Asriel and Miss Coulter do make up for their cruelty. GAYNGELS! I missed Iorek throughout though, he was barely in it.

I thought this was the weakest of the three. The Subtle Knife was the best.

Why doesn't Asriel just shoot metatron? The leader of a multiverse-wide fighting force doesn't carry a gun? Also, Lyra turning into a snivelling ninny was annoying. Otherwise, beautiful book, perfect trilogy.

I have no idea why he doesn't just throw bomb at him or something. I guess it would have been a lame end. And I agree about Lyra being a ninny. Crazy kids. I guess in the classic game of spyglass, knife, compass...knife kind of wins.

the essay's aren't that hard. i'm not in eleventh grade no more. so now all i got to worry about is the senior project. the hardest essay i ever gotten was in advance social studies and the topic was views of religion in other countries. so i posted random comments on chat sites and you tube.

Dust is self awareness - you have to appreciate others to be aware, so the emotion of 'love' is a trigger. Lyra and Will ddn't have sex - errgh! - 12/13 years old! Now we know why the later films won't be made! The book was honest - we start thinking of sex that age, but it's not legal. The 'love scene' at the end was beautifully written, but it couldn't be filmed.
