  • How come you no longer have the names of the winners on there?

  • Never mind my annotations were probably off.

  • Very nice clip, I like the use of the Bionicle Vezoks as robot gurads

  • Added to favorites (and on the front page)!!

  • Did you really light that bomb

  • cranky is falling down at the ground all the time

  • Well done all of you!

  • omg bionicle =]

  • how did you upload more than 10 mins for your vid, or can u upload more now and i havent noticed

  • Only youtube partners can upload videos longer that ten minets.

  • but this guy isnt is he? It normally has a little pic where the subscribe button is that says 'Tube' on it

  • leokimvideo is a partner, if you look at his channel you can tell.

  • my name for henry is boomer and my name for gordon is jonah

  • Cool video. Thanks for the awesome tips and that video you made was great! 5/5

Well done to the winners, before I forget!

  • woa, didn't expect simierski to lash out like that...yikes

  • It's fine to rant all you like, but please do it all in open space for all to see, I requested anyone who had issues to present all your postings here, I did my best to answer your PM questions via PM, and still the rant continued.

Epic fail, mad bomber style, I have heaps of time for polite tubers, zero for rude ones.

  • Blocked..sometimes the best feature of the tube.

  • @leokimvideo lol

  • This has to be the worst message I've read on here. It's absolutely pathetic. Criminal, unforgiving? How dare you! WE HAD NINETY ENTRIES TO GO THROUGH FOR THIS COMPETITION, YOU IDIOT. We can't be expected to remember every single video that was entered, further our marking system broke the number down to just the top efforts for scoring. Nothing more - nothing less. No big conspiracy, no "injustice" whatsoever. I am furious that you have made such a mockery of mine and gav's marking.

  • ...not done yet! As with another youtuber (see above), you were told the rules explicitly and well over the course of several months. You didn't win - get over it. Making rants like this does not endear you to any of us, and especially when your rant concerns something which is beyond the judges and competition organiser's control! We don't give out scores for all of the entries, it would be too much hassle. End of discussion, thank you.

  • Same happened to me with youtube, I almost did not join up as I was not interested, sometimes jumping in can have huge rewards, that's a lesson I have learned of late.

  • Comments like that assure your blocked, sometimes the best feature on youtube.

  • Basically language like that has you blocked, well done for showing everyone your amazing use of the English language.

  • I might use that bomb effect

  • Wow this was a great video, very educational and entertaining

  • Your first mistake was not putting the video up which disqualifies you by default so what d'you expect? How can you win if you did not put a video up? :/

  • Also your little rant video about losing in contests was pathetic. You need to improve your attitude when it comes to contests because it's supposed to be fun and if you cannot grasp that concept you don't deserve to win...............

  • You should learn from what you can improve on instead of bitching about it.

  • was that a real bomb at the begining of this video?

  • I don't care if i didn't win Thank you for a whole truckload of fun leo. you are my friend and my insperation. those people have earned it.

    Thank you for all ~DT

  • Did you see my channel?

  • Some fair winners there, thanks for running the contest Leo, i'v learn't quite a bit about video making thanks to this contest

  • Thank you , I have liked it as it has given me a chance to connect with so many Thomas fans, sure it was a fair bit of work to manage along the way, I sure was lucky I had help with the judging, and I never expected 88 entries.

  • I actually spoke a fair bit abut the early Thomas TV shows, I cut it from the video as it is just way too long..

Really the first 6 mins is where the good info is the rest is related to the comp.

  • Awesome! I made the best Wooden video! Thanx, Leo! :D

  • A goof i found that can count for continuty is that wen Gordon sayes Henry's line is clear, the signal is down and in te next shot he is moving, with the signal up and also he is going at a line at danger. Just wanted to find a goof for te fun of it.

  • Keep this to ourselves...there are two signals there..! When Henry leaves you only see Gordon's signal..

  • im a little worried about it

    my locos have tanned faces

  • thank you so much for your help!

  • Well, a couple of things. Some winning entries had thomas in them. How could thomas be running if he's being repaired? How could Ted fall off a bridge, and be perfectly repaired at the end of the film? With the sheds, when they were blown up, at night, why weren't there any engines there? And the whole thing with audio "completely produced by you" many sounds were not completely produced by the video owner. They were downloaded off the internet. Please reply off what you think.

  • Thomas being intact doesn't matter as it's fanmade and was made for fun regarding the audio I have to agree with you, some videos did use "Thomas Music" and "Thomas sound effects"

  • By right those sounds are copyright to Hit entertainment but so far they've never really made a claim on anything besides Thomas songs or episodes so I guess that's probably why people got a way with using sound and character themes.

  • Leo will have a better answer than me but I just wanted to say what I thought.

  • Much has been said to me about CFR1 entry, the fact it may have images ripped from another site.

May I suggest the person who's images are ripped needs to be watermarked, if you put anything on the web without a watermark or embedded ID your asking for trouble, it;s that simple.

I still have not been able to establish that the images were ripped, maybe a tuber can indicate to me what I am missing.

  • Overall most who entered were doing their very best on the day, and that's all I was really asking for, I am no big meanie with strict rules, I will enforce a fair and level playing field as much as possible. Some of the entrants were very young of age so you have to consider not everyone understands some of the issues you have brought forward.

I hope I have covered them as best I could considering we are covering 88 entries.

  • Fair enough :) Since Hit doesn't really target these things it makes the entry perfectly valid as you say. it would be a disaster if they did since many model series would suffer from claims but thank god they don't :)

  • First thanks for asking about these issues, and yes I remember this being said during the contest on some entries.

Lets talk about music or sounds first, sure many entries had issues here, I found some the judges found more and in fact identified the source, it did affect markings, but does not wipe you from the contest.

I really was trying to make this as simple to enter as possible, as soon as you lay down the law tubers basically walk away.

  • About Thomas being is some entries, well it may have been his twin, if tell you any more I may as well give you the script to the next episode..!

Sure some entries went completely sideways on the actual task asked for, again I wanted to be as relaxed and free form as possible, I certainly expressed this to the judges as well, in no way was this comp the youtube police.

  • On my policing the entries there were some I actually questioned where did the music or images come from, some people tried to enter TV show re-dubs and videos not related at all to the contest, some just kept trying to join the contest no matter how many times I refused their entry.

I dare say they were desperately looking for an audience.

  • You have a point, but this was just a fun little competition. As long as you didn't directly steal someone's else's work, you would be aloud to use some audio used in the Thomas T.V. series.

  • I thought that too :O :D I agree

  • was my entire refused

  • Because it sucked

  • I didn't win?

  • Its a shame I didnt win anything, but I certainly have learnt alot. I can see that the most important thing in the judging was what my entry lacked the most!

Im wouldn't mind seeing what comments I got on my entry, but I guess its strictly confidential.

  • I can not disclose any of the judges comments, they were there as a cross check between the judges.

What the comments did reveal to me was what became the winning formula, and I think everyone is starting to see this now.

Thats why I produced the little film school part of the video as I can see where many entries loose the plot.

I expect the next competition will be very different, as everyone will be armed with latex balloon bombs and cut away shots.

  • What, you mean you want to host another one? Ace.

  • was Cranky a Battery Powered Part on the first set?

  • OMG! O_O I got the 4th prize! Awesome.

Personally, i thought my entry would at least make the top 3, but hey, I'm happy.

I was very proud to enter this competition and i am very honored to recieve a top prize.

Congrats to all winners, great work to those who entered, and special thanks to leokimvideo and the judges. :)

  • Congratulations MOAB!!!!!!! ;D

  • Such judgments are irrelevant till you've seen them all but all the same congratulations on 4th place :)

  • Personally everyone thought they were in the top three, just give some thought to Mr PokelordEX, he had a stunning entry entered early and he missed out all together.

I keep telling tubers the real prize here was the networking associated to my channel, that loops you into my audience outside of the Thomas youtube community, having this crossover is I feel really important.

  • well I guess I didnt win. Well you no what they say its not all about winning its about having fun. Well done to everyone who won.

  • Sir Top'em Hat will not be pleased.

  • Man, I love the fuse lighting intro to this! (genius!) Fantastic touch.

  • I keep telling tubers the first 5 seconds of a video on the tube is critical, especially if your a 40 something who is making videos is a teen environment.

It could have been a party popper, or a sparkler.

Fuses are something which people hook onto, I could name other things but not here.

  • I must have watched this video about 6 times now. It's great, very entertaining and full of worthy advice. Was glad to be a part of it, well done all that entered, and especialy well done to you winners, was alot of fun going through your entries.

  • I bet everyone is running down to the shops for latex balloons..

Sparkshot is was fantastic catching up with you, I have know you the longest of all the judges who assisted me, and I certainly owe you some airplay on my channel

  • awesome Leo!

  • Thanks Mark Apsolon for your support with this contest, it was certainly modeled in the style you do yours.

And that contest you have running now is a killer, so many amazing entries, what's with all the guns in the videos..?

  • Leo, this video contains some great advice. I'll be sure to take it for the next big video I plan. Congrats to all the winners and everyone else who entered, too!

I did have plans to enter, but my parents still think that Thomas "is for babies." I still plan on making one, I just need to get around to it, since an Andy Diesel was recently made for Trainz.

  • Fantastic entries all-round... congratulations to everyone... not only those who won, but also to those who knuckled down & gave the competition a shot! Well done & very well run competition all-round !!!

  • Thank you offplanetfilms for devoting your time to judging all the entries.

  • Is the little scene at the start in any way related to ep 2?

  • There are two versions of this scene, the one at the start and a very different version at the end.

It is there purely as an example of a good use of 40 seconds, and how two non related characters to Mad Bomber episode 1 can be added as a side story.

I was going to enter as a phantom entry to stir the pot a little, but I though it's best to let things develop naturally.

I really wanted to show how a very effective video can be made without any fancy tricks, anyone could have achieved this.

  • If you look at the top winners they each have a few elements in the right dose which was really the key to winning. A little bit of action, suspense, drama, comedy or surprise is what seems to impressed the judges.

If you pulled off something really different that helped as well.

I think everyone now sees that entering in the last weeks was another factor, that way there is less chance of another entry being produced to beat yours.

  • Congrats to all the winners

  • Well Done To All Who Won! (I Didn't Need Earn A Prize I Must Admit!)

  • Gave you a thumbs up..the real prize of any comp is the networking, heaps of people would have looked at your entry and then maybe looked at your channel..

Thats the prize of entering that most seem to forget.

  • wow oh thank you leo

  • I know for a fact you really tried hard in this competition, and considering the wars of late I hope this is some good news for you.

    Really well done.

  • looks like the wars are on again via the comments in on this video..

  • It's best to let these things slide as culdeefellrailway while ok in general is a bit of a war monger and the slightest thing can set him off. Anyway; Great Competion! Though I didn't win it gave me the chance to make a video I normally wouldn't make. I might upload the uncut version for the fun of it.

  • Thanks for this comment, I think everyone should look at all the video as it's explained clearly why the best 2D and best Wooden gain a special prize, sure it's a long video, it has to be to get all this important info across.

Is this the bitter pill you get after running a giant comp, it would be much easier for me to not run one at all, it was a huge animal to manage and keep completely fair.

  • Your a great video maker!

  • No, I am just average..and a little old fashioned.

Just on anything to do with youtube the first 5 seconds of a video are absolutely critical, I tend not to even title these days, making videos for youtube is a very different to say a non online audience.

  • Maybe, maybe not but your videos are way better than a lot of those people on the top subscribed. I could've sworn you were from the filming industry :)

  • Hi there

Blimey O_O I've won both sides of the contest! I seriously didn't expect lightning to strike twice, but it did (the kinda lightning I like to get struck with XD). This is really a surprise =D

Congrats to all the other winners and good work to thoughs who have entered ^^

    Euan

  • Hi there

Oh, almost forgot ^^; Thank u very much judges ^^

    Euan

  • It might be a nice idea to send a personal message to the judges, I know they were all pretty impressed with your work.

Don't forget to tell me which video you would like to have as an auto play..!

  • No Problem Juan,

Your work was exemplary. I watched that particular video over and over again, the stop motion and the storyline in particular made it stand out from the rest. Absolutely superb entry and entrant.

  • Wow. I can see exactly why the judges chose these top ten vids, a lot of talent and skill, indeed. And thanks for 5th place! A bit of a surprise, honestly, considering I was the last entrant. Well done, all.

  • There were some very good entries which did not rank at all, the average mark was 22, the lowest mark was 9.

I always considered PokerlordEX had a excellent entry, and I feel the scramble at the end seemed to produce the most in the winning pool, I really feel leaving your entry to last helped.

I believe the judges viewed the videos from first entered to last entered, and for me it was a 4 hour session, many entries I looked at over and over.

  • i guess i was the one who got 9...

    oh well ^_^

  • Wow, four hours...A dedicated moderator, indeed! But, I suppose a severe analysis of each entry would be rather time-consuming.

I think PokerlordEX's vid was very good. His sort of sums up what we're all assuming about Ep. 2! Not only that, but this user had a wide variety of sound effects that really pulled his video together.

  • 8th place! Awesome! =D

  • You did well, it was a very competitive comp.

  • great! 7th is good! lol I like the tanker thomas comes with because that's what I used as my BOMB. XD

  • 3rd place - certainly much higher than I had expected. Thank you very much, Leo, for allowing me to enter the competition as well as redo my entry early on.

I very much agree with the judging for first place - the most flawless stop motion I've ever seen, something to be admired and envied.

Well done to everyone; each and every person deserved a prize, it was such a grand competition!

  • Hello Skarloey123.

I feel the top 3 places were very strong in a variety of ways, and each one had their little flaws as well.

I also feel that possible sticking to the insert scene as was asked for in the competition really was a key, even though this rule was relaxed it does pay to stick to the required task.

I dare say the next comp will have no rules, just throw anything together, mish mash style.

  • so what place did I come?

  • Hello NewController01

You scored 22 out of 50, a few things here this is the average mark of the contest, 9 other entries scored 22.

Like I said in the video if you married your story to any video you would have won, so maybe next time team up with a video producer and basically win.

I will be in contact with you soon, once I get my mass mail about how to tell me you contact details, I have something special for you.

Well done entering with audio only, that was a real surprise.

  • This has to be one of the best videos you've made. Not based on action or plot, but on the amount of information it gives. It give more information even then the "Mad Bomber how tos" All the tips, suggestions, and tricks. All on such a stripped back scale that anyone can do. This is a great reference material, and it also shows how we as video makers can produce, construct and create better works. I know I'll be taking allot of these tips to heart.

  • Hopefully this video will help when I do the next comp, I dare say it will be a similar challenge.

  • Sounds fun, I'll be sure to do something to enter.

  • You're going to have another contest?

  • Comment removed

  • haha, I know what ya mean be beautiful destruction. Ever seen the Flying kipper episode in thomas S1. It was a cool crash!

  • Can you spare mr a Mad Bomber DVD?

  • You can't have a DVD if you aren't a winner of the contest. No offense, but it's true

  • Thats true, the DVD's are really just something special for the winners, they are not ever for sale.

I may throw the new trailers onto the DVD to make it a real treat.

I have a feeling that tuber won a random prize, maybe I can slip in a DVD for him..!

  • Do we get to see the videos that won?

  • I am going to annotate the winners onto the prizes now, again this takes time to do.

  • i saw at 0:52 the piano wire

  • I saw a latex balloon in there as well, weird.

  • Awesome, I'm one of the top winners. I'll definately be checking in to see who won each prize.

It's been an honor to join such a lively competition, I was glad to be apart of it. =)

  • Hurray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm won of the winers!

  • am i'm the winner?

  • well done laddy!!!!!! ;D

  • what about the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of the LTW part.

  • Gosh! I don't know what to say.I'm grateful.I'm honuerd.I'm congratulating everyone else!

  • I'm sorry but how come CuldeeFellRailway1's entry has won a place? His entry was taken down before the competition ended and he was closed while the competition was still on...

  • Plus it was shit. :P

  • It was the only 2D entry. Had others used sprites for their entry things would've probably been different XD

  • Wait 1234567890moomoo also did one. I forgot about that XD

  • Sir please let me clear thing up here.

All tubers had the option to re-enter as many times as they felt fit, it was a very active and fluid comp in this way.

Plenty of tubers did re-enter with 2, 3 and 4 attempts, each time their previous attempt was removed.

All this was clearly outlined in the more info area of the competition, so many people failed to read this, that was very clear to me.

CFR1 had his channel back in time to again enter his entry, well before the competition closed.

  • If you watch the whole video it is explained there are two prizes going to styles of entries which were the best of their style.

There were two tubers rewarded who were will short of the top 10.

It really pays to gather all the info before making a comment. I really hope you now re-consider your thoughts and let me know if you now understand this prize.

  • The judges were made aware of any videos that were taken down before the competition ended, as we had already watched a fair few that were re-entered/etc. He has not broken any of the competition rules at any time, and was a very highly regarded entry by the judges as a result of producing a rather smashing video.

Now, you could have done this by PM instead of making baseless accusations on Leo's video. You owe both CuldeeFell and Leo a full apology, in my opinion...

  • ...and on a related note, bringing the competition into disrepute in this way does not endear you to any of us. The fact remains that you have made a very extreme, crass allegation which has no real basis in truth, and also besmirches the name of an entrant who worked just as hard as anyone else in the competition while remaining fuly within the rules.

  • really fascinating. Thanks for such great tips Leo.

    Best Wishes

    Tom

  • I LOL @ YOU SIR

  • i have the robot thing that pet mute too!

  • I think it was a McDonald's happy meal toy..!

  • Oh well. At least I tried

  • Shame my name isnt up there, but I dont really care regardless because if anything I got alot out of entering the competition and it was all great fun, and like I said earlier, making friends with you is better than any prize =)

I get alot of requests for a model railway series, but the advice you have given have made me reconsider slightly, and I really take that advice seriously, and if I do make something like that, I now know how to do it.

Congrats to you winners, you deserve it ^_^

  • Like I said in another comment I am surprised you did not make the final 10..

Most of the top winners were entries which were uploaded in the dying weeks of the contest, so this tells me thats a key time to upload, basically no one can copy your style.

You scored 26, the average was 22, to be in the top 10 you had to have at least mid 30's.

People saw your effort and knew it was one to beat, something to remember if your entering competitions.

  • In a sense thats good, since it encouraged people to produce good entries, making the competition more epic and close.

Like I keep saying, it was great just to be a part of it, and hey thats not a bad score when you think about it. Look forward to Mad Bomber 2, keep up the good work ^_^

  • Looking at the top place getters they all had a little bit of mystery, action, comedy or surprise..

Maybe this is the key to winning, I am not sure as I did not enter..!

  • Man, I'm REALLY regretting not entering this contest. XP Those are some good-lookin' prizes . . .

But, you've really inspired me! When I start filming my series, it will be "mind-blowing."

  • I'm on the winners list? Oh my goodness! I don't know what to say. Well actually i do. I am very honored to be a part of this contest, and thank you very much for taking interest in my entry. Everyone else did a great job too. Congrats to all! :)

  • Congrats to all the winners! :) I'm a little disappointed I didn't I didn't get a winners spot, but oh well. Now my videos will be better because I learned from my mistakes. :)

  • Well done to each and every one of the winners.

  • Well done everyone who won. EVERYONE ELSE, WE ARE SORRY AND APPOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENICENCE THIS MAY HAVE CAUSED!

  • While I'm not sure of what place I received, thanks to you and the gracious judges for picking my last minute entry!

I take your first bit about the script generally at heart, as someone who's worked for his high school's theatre as a sound manager. Now in college, I find my free time invested in making these little videos on YouTube. In my latest one, The Flying Kipper Theme, I really had to work with the cues and mesh the music and video together to recreate that scene of the Thomas episode.

  • Cool!! :D I'm not really upset I didn't win it :)

I'm just glad to be apart of this contest ;)

    I've really enjoyed this :)

  • Awesome. The winners were great!

  • congrats on who won the grand prizes, very impressed with the videos everyone made, again congrats

  • hey, leo

i was making avideo but i broke my arm falling off my bike while avoiding a car.

    it's still in plaster

i know its too late, but once my arm's better and my video's complete, would u mind having a looksie anyway?

    thanks

    TTTF

  • congrats everyone!

  • Excellent advice on the script. I also can't stress enough what an important element it is towards how you direct your film. (Unless you're improvising, which in some cases may even need one...trust me on that.)

I still rate filming as the most frustrating and time consuming portion of the film-making process; editing I think is a great pass-time, so the time just flies by there.

Congratulations to all the winners, I've seen some excellent entries. Definitely some 1st prize material here.

  • Some tubers pulled really great entries, for some it was their first ever trains video. That was great to see.

In essence the scoring was so close in the top 5 it would have been nice to duplicate the same prize 5 times over, I was worried there if the scores remained locked up I would have had the videos open for public comment to decide a winner, issue there is many see this as unfair as some tubers are more popular than others.

It's very tricky keeping it fair to all.

  • oh well at least i tried CONGRATS TO SKARLOEY123 AND CuldeeFellRailway1 GREAT TO SEE U BACK AND TO OTHERS TOO :D

  • Congrats to all the winners, I'm just happy I entered before I was suspended
