Back when AT&T was split up, at that time it was a monopoly. Today though, the markets have changed. Cable companies sell landline phone service, and there is also plenty of competition in the cell phone provider business. AT&T, although reformed, is NOT a monopoly today. Being a monopoly has nothing to due with company size and everything to do with adequate competition from other companies. Microsoft used to be a monopoly. Today, there is Linux.
