The Audi A3 is already a audi golf, and much better too.

IE: the S3 pisses all over a golf gti in every way. IT has 65 more bhp and four wheel drive and much nicer interior.

I own a 2007 GTI with a DSG transmission. Let's put it this way, I can't picture myself EVER selling or trading this car in... it's just that perfect.

i think we can't be against new technologies , especially if this improve the perfs of the car . and ferrari and others prestigious cars have robotized gears

but you made your point , and i totally agree . i had some old gti's , the first ones, and you needed to have skills just to avoid crashs .

now i see people with no driving skills driving like hell with the magical action of esp and a great chassis of a modern car. so , it's sad to see cars driving for people.

Dear all,

ABS works on all wheels, thru actuators that control the brake pumps on each wheel. Most handbrakes are cable operated, which bypass the brake pumps and directly pull on the brake calipers, which explains why handbrake will still work if you suffer from fluid lock when your brake fluid has overheated.

there are cars which handbrake works by using the brake pumps to lock the brakes, but those are the exception rather than normal. Such cars are usually like high end MBs, BMW, RRs, etc...where their handbrake is not activated by lever, but by button or by shifting to Park via electronics.

ABS works in AFT wheels at the same in the GTI for directional stability, when al least one wheel speed is less than 6 Km/h, i have one 1.8 Turbo GTI '01

love the gti. i've had the civic & now the vw and the vw is hands down the better car. if you want power from the honda you'd better be at the perfect revs or your out of luck. the gti is almost always on. not to mention it's loaded with opts. i'd take the 6-speed any day over paddles though.

It's the handbrake, I saw another segment on the show where they drive it and talk about using the hand brake.

Plus you can also look at the front wheels and notice that they are spinning evenly and the car isn't slowing down. (If he was braking the front wheels would be rapidly locking and unlocking and the car would stop)

Whilst nothing can beat Top Gear comedy. this guy, Jason Plato, is an actual racing driver and would without doubt leave the Stig for dead in any kind of race on the limit.

the new GTI is a fantastic drive but its under powered. In terms of performance the Focus ST has this beat.

Stig may be an ex F1 driver- although that is just your assumption!! i heard he is stunt driver russ swift and he never raced f1. I am not much of a fan of any VW's, except this most current GTI and TDI's, after 1992. My faves are the A2 GTI 2 liter 16v. They were over loaded with so much unneeded features, and had perfect Recaro seats, better looks, lighter weight, and more all around fun than A3, A4, etc
