  • Hi...it's a very good video and you make it easy to understand but I'm working with much smaller rings and they move around when I try to attach the group together. I lose track of where I am. Frustrating! Do you have a suggestion? Thanks!

  • Your camera man sucks! He needs to stop moving the freaking camera all over the place and just hold it freaking still!

  • how do you make a body mail?

  • ten z kamerą to parkinsona ma ,że tok trzęsie?

  • пяный оператор

  • Is the camera person drunk or something? You should get a different camera person because he can't stay still, he's bobbing and weaving and zipping from place to place making it hard to get your eyes to focus on anything. It was making me dizzy..

  • great video extreamly helpfull. this will help me make my leather and chain mostrosity.

  • Thank you VERY much for this video. Shaking makes you feel sick, but your an excellent teacher. Thanks for uploading these, they have helped me immensely.

  • Sorry dude camera too wobbly. Otherwise it would be a great tutorial :)

  • where do you buy the rings?

  • @cejnerf you make the rings by using a metal dowel of width equal to your interior desired ring diameter. Then using various different methods (some faster than others) you spool the wire onto the dowel making a spring like piece. Those were the coils on the counter at the beginning of the video. Then you use decent grade cutters to snip off a ring at a time. Next thing you know you have about a bazillion rings. Google it you'll find some good how to's with pics and better explanation.

  • nice tutorial :D but those rings are too big :( you could make 8 in 1 with them XD

  • stop giving the camera-man coffee

  • The motion of the camera actually makes me feel sick - please use a tripod or something else to keep it steady next time. Lots of people are clearly interested in the effort you put into making both the chainmail and the the instructional video, but it's essentially unwatchable.

    uuuunnngh...

  • yall lil niggas aint got no hoes?...

yall must be bored as hell all day every day

  • you are the best one Ive seen to show a person how to make this can you plz pretty plz make a new video with your tripod? pretty plz plz

  • u need to use smaller rings cause a knife would stab right through that

  • man your tutorial is good but your camera man sucks hard and deep,

  • me and this man got into a fight....he had a knife and threatend to stab me and i am a parinoied type of person...would this armor witstand a stab

  • @thrashsuxballs not from a long thin knife, but jackknives probably, great at resisting a slash.

  • @thrashsuxballs maybe not it depends on how he attacks you and how big the rings are in your chainmail.

  • i would recommend a new camera man, or use a stand for the camera.

I love the ideas and the work you do, but it is hard to see it if that camera moves soo much!

  • I couldn't tell what the heck was going on because the camera was all over the place. Try again please.

  • you could buy jump rings and do the same thing because the rings are homeade jump rings

  • other then being dizzy from the camera thats connected to bungy cords nice and informative.

  • is that still just as strong as the ones in the Mid evil times?

  • @Norsegod127 they tended to use smaller rings than his, and it was also riveted maille, a good ring size for 4 in 1 is 16 gauge 1/4" inner diameter

  • You should make a hacky sack

  • i think the camera mans drunk......

    and stoned..

  • camera man is a noob

  • What is the purpose of making little chainmail blocks then piecing them together? Seems to me to be a waste of time doing it that way.

  • @stoneagearcher you do patches and piece them together to make larger patches, ending up with eventually a large sheet, to do with as fabric or so

  • Hold the camera still.......

  • Great video, but when you will make part 3? :)

  • Za duze kolka ciulu. Nie wiem na chuj ci te szczypce jak w palcach bys to pozaginal :/ nuub

  • for god sake,, get a try pod next time :D ..other then that is cool :)

  • In a world of automated production, it was a thrill to see your addiction to detail and handycraft. Thanks!

  • @divinesdun thank you very much

  • @divinesdun true :)

  • you should not use a Parkinson's patient as a cameraman ..nice vid

  • You have got very very big. They have used rings with a diameter of 7-9 mm. Your rings are very very big. They haven´t used so big rings, because they had greader change that the arrows could not penetrate through. I have got chainmail adn I´ve used rings with a diameter of 8 mm - I think that it´s the best.

  • Whoa, your rings are WAY to big man, seriously tighten up the Ar use a smaller mandrel for that gauge.

  • I'm making one... o.o When someone tells me to do something... I'll just reply, "I'm wearing the medieval equivalent to a ballistic vest. You're argument is invalid.

  • that rings are to big

  • thanks man ,i only have one question does it help if u got bite by dog

  • lol i can see pimp chain mail now... made with gold and purple plates here and there... and an armored pimp hat XD

  • I am using 17 gauge wires... and I am making some very very very very very tiny rings on my chainmail.... I have thousands of rings made only into a 1 square decimeter...

The reason? The store only had 17 gauge steel wire :( so to make it tough I had to make tiny rings... your guy's rings can fit around a finger while my rings are so tiny that it is almost stab-proof 'uber' chainmail... might take years to make but will be worth it in the end eh??

  • im making mine out of 17 gauge wire, my rings are 1/4th inch, its taken me about two months to finish just the front of my suit. i think with smaller rings it looks alot better though and its way more authentic then doing it with such large rings.

  • i would like to make a entire shirt but im confused on the collar. i no how to put them together with 4in1 and all the with adding on but the pattern for a shirt i have no idea and i already started and got confused. so comment back as soon as possible plz

  • the best thing to do is start with a square collar. It does not need to be round, so my suggestion to you is to make the front with two strips higher on either side and then make a back and join them as normal. then connect the sides and it should be quite easy! if u need any more help or a better description let me know.

  • thx but better description plz. lol i made a strip about 36 rings long and 4 high kinda long and thick what do i do from there?

  • I'll make a video for you very soon. hopefully it will help

  • k thx i guess ill just stop untill then lol

  • I will have it up within the next 15 minutes

  • if the camera man could hold the camera still it might be a good video, you need to fire his dum ass and hire someone that is not Incompetent.

  • Do you use this size of rings only to demonstrate the pattern?? Because the chainmail amor made of rings this size will be destroyed very easily only by its own weight, wont be?:-)

  • yes and i actually used it for actual size on my one chainmail vest. it works perfectly well, its 6 in 1 and is a really tight weave still. it works for me! :D

  • OK ok.. I didn't catch it's not 4 in 1 but 6 in 1.. But may I have a question?;-) What do you use this chainmail armor for? Are you playing larp or something else? Because I can't believe that this could survive real fighting very long :D ..I make chainmail of 18mm thick wire with a smaller diameter of rings equals 8mm (Sorry for metric system ;-) .. I'm from Czech republic)

  • I personally use it for videos and props... however I did have a friend slice it with his sword... there were a few dents but no damage so it did work.

  • Actually if you braise the mail it will be very very strong. It takes some time but its worth it.

  • @adtop123 i use 16 gauge 1/2" to make 8 in 1 your AR is rising towards the vicinity of 8-9

  • making a chainmal is very easy...the hardest part for is to made the rings...it need's so long...

  • great video thx a lot

  • You keep saying in all your videos you will be showing us 6 in 1 and 8 in 1 in a few days. So when will the videos be online?

  • ya sorry about that. It turned into a long year and there were many problems in my life. I wasnt able to check my videos and I was able to leave a few comments. However I was not able to post any videos. I intend to get them up quickly now. I already have a six in one video and I will possibly get it up today.

  • This is a very nice tutorial! You do a great job explaining everything, and seem to go out of your way to make sure anyone watching it understands! Great job!

What is the strength of the wire your using? Like, hypothetically, it you where in battle, would this wire be just as strong as what they'd use back in old'en times?

  • thanks very much. well since when actual battles took place the blacksmith/ ironworker would heat the rings and cool them and heat them etc. He would harden them to tough steel for the most part. However I am using steel and if you make a nice tight weave you should be protected very well. I have had my friend slash at me with his two handed sword with blood groove. The impact hurt like hell and a few rings dentedbut i was perfectly allright. it withstood a sword attack. so i would say STRONG :)

  • Awesome! I'm really interested in getting into this craft! How long does it take, to make a shirt?

  • He really slashed you ? omg

  • yes he did

  • Normal chainmail is about 1/4in-id to 1/3in-id (inner demension). Good tutorial though, but not historiacly accurate.

  • I think he made this one bigger, so the camera could see it better.

  • you are correct. And besides Rickman, i did not say it was historicaly accurate. You make it your own. But you are correct. And now there are even more sizes which are considered to be common. Good luck with all your work!

  • so what is the correct size the rings SHOULD be? you say you are doing the 1/2" dia for teaching purpose .. but not the correct size.

good vid btw/ yea tripod better

  • is this the chain mail where they say give me a dollar or i will kill you?

  • DAM NICE CAMRA MAN LOL

  • lol haha. ya hes been replaced by a steady tripod for now!

  • what`s the diameter of the big rings? seems to be more than 16mm inside? oO

  • Ya they are about 1/2 in diameter. Mainly for showing purposes. or anything over 6/1 pattern. Then the weave is tight enough

  • why did you make the rings so big? unless its for a school play or something

i use 3/8 inch rings foir functonal maille

  • Comment removed

  • those rings are much to large and not of a strong enough gauge to be used for functional combat armour.

  • omg camra guy

  • when I try and connect the two units at the beginning, I end up with a large galvanized mess and everything gets tangled. I think my rings are too small (1/2 in.), but nothing bigger will fit in my drill. any ideas?

  • well thats definitely a great ring size. u can either do it by hand lol not great. or make a converter for ur drill using spare parts. try to elaborate on the drill problem

  • The hole for the drill is only so big, it won't fit anything bigger than 1/2 inch! I was thinking about using a wooden dowel, and snipping a bit of the end off it so it will fit into the drill.

  • well now thats a great idea! but be careful because the wood might cause friction or fire. if u can use a metal dowl, plus it does not defore like wood will!

  • cant use a metal dowel size of anything bigger than 1/2 in. Im currently using a metal dowel though. Now, can you help me when connecting the two units shown at the beginning of the video?

  • Im using 17 gauge wire, it might be too light to stay down when I try and connect

  • thats very true it probably is

and ill do what i can to help!

  • Hi, I have a question about the flush pattern. Lets say im wearing a chainmail shirt. Do i want th flush going left to right across my chest or the flush going up and down. Which way makes the chainmail stronger for hard impacts? Thank you.

  • well definitely left or right. Never up and down because then the chains sepparate. I would say going left (from point of view of wearing it) to right if your right handed so that when you stretch with a weapon theres more room. and the reverse if you are left handed. But either left or right is just fine! Thanks for the question.

  • @SquidChipProductions in this case, smaller rings are actually easier to work with. if you start too big, the rings can flip around on you.

  • how does this pattern hold against dragons? I've tried the other few patterns, but the other dragons pierced me. write back, please.

  • well this 4 in 1 might not be what u want but 8 in 1 is really good!

  • make it outa some sturdy no-8 wire and youll hold up fine

  • too much handshake for me - sorry

  • ya i agree

  • Comment removed

  • yes unfortunately mine was broken at the time and the camera is quite large and difficult to handle sometimes with one hand.

  • Like for me the easiest way to make fast E4-1 is to make a looot single 4-1 parts and connect them.

    Btw u use huge rings...

  • My guess is that just for the sake of the video and us seeing the rings, the coils are 1/2," but when you go to purchase high end chainmail, whether butted, flat ringed, dome-riveted, or wedge riveted. It is generally made with 8mm 16gauge steel in the 4 in 1 pattern.

  • you nailed it my friend! Nice research.

  • We like the instruction video idea, but if you want to continue to help people watch a cooking show to see how the camera actually helps explain the process, not hinder. They use a mirror to get an overhead view. you can also start with a tripod. other than that great vid.

  • Thanks. Ya At the time my tripod was broken i had to use a box or my shaky friend Daniel held it(not well) oh well. Thanks for the advice!

  • Your links are way to thin. They dont look real at all. Your just wasting your life.

  • well we can all have our own opinions. by the way, my rings are actually a bit thicker and normal "good" chainmail rings.

  • the guy on the cam was drunk...

  • haha. Na jsut shaky. its a bulky camera, but im gonna replace him with tri pod. its just that the tri was broken at the time! Ha

  • yeah?! i was really worried LOL, bit the clip is good ;) seems like u do mothing else in your spare time :P my lil chainmail piece is nothing against your "collection"

  • well thanks! I actually do a lot of stuff in my spare time! im sure your chainmail is great too!

  • links are too big

  • actually the "links" are one of the considered average sizes. Also they are on the larger size to help others better grasp the principle on how to make them.

  • I did a chainmail many years ago and I never opened a ring to make it. Rather than opening rings one by one(that is long), I did this operation on the coil by stretching (by both ends) it to form a kind of compression spring. Then cut it, maybe little bit longer to cut, but less effort.

  • Quite a good idea. I had though of trying something like that in the future. The comment means a lot. Thanks, and keep them coming!

  • i am wondering how you create your coils

  • I have showed how in previous videos. If you dont find that to be a help, ill make a video specificly on how to coil wire! Thanks! I might make a video on just that anyway!

  • sry. i must have missed that video somehow.. i have a pretty efficient way of making and opening coils, using drill power, which is why i was wondering how u did it.

  • Its ok. I made mine by hand in the video for those without the tools, but then I explained how I use my "device" with drilled attached. It works so well. It does 1 of those long coils in 20 seconds!

  • ive also made a little device out of wire which i clamp in my vice. and attach the actual coil to the drill and the coil goes through the device opening the coils uniformly, so it makes it easier to cut later cuz the rings arent right next to each other and also my rings are already open when they are cut off the coil. i make a sort of T shaped device out of the same gauge as im working with and it turns through the coil.i find this speeds up my process personally.kinda hard to describe in words

  • sounds cool to me. You should definitely make a video of it!

  • those are huge rings

  • they arent to big, but thanks for the comment!

  • you should make a chainmail shirt. im making one myself.nice vid!

  • Well thanks very much! Actually thats why I got into chainmail. In between getting ready for school to start and making my videos, I am working on a 6 in 1 Shirt. I will also eventualy show how to make a coif(headpiece). Thanks again and make sure to check out my other videos on my channel!

  • Great video but you should really use a tripod. The camera's not steady enough and it makes it hard to see what you're doing. Beside that, good job! You've taught me something!

  • Ya thanks. I usually do have my camera on some sort of stand or tripod. However this time my friend was helping me. He really wanted to hold the camera and since he is my best friend I let him. I do agree though it was a bit shakey. In the future my videos will be much more steady!
