use a peice of sandpaper and just rub the end until it's clean

i saw you had a clean stump i was wondering ...since my stumps are all black are there ways to clean/ sharrpen them... rather than buying new ones.. near me you can get 10 stumps for 4 buckes but for me to get them is out of the way so how do i clean my stumps or sharrpen them?
