As for Musicianship, Nirvana were average garage band, any actual musician would spot that right away. Shannon Hoon and Blind Melon were truly special, but of course you know that.

This interview happened in October 1991. It was about a year before Blind Melon's first CD came out. They did a short, 5-date, tour with Soundgarden because they shared a booking agent (I think). This is from an interview I did with Shannon. Really, initially the only reason I did it was because I wanted free Soundgarden tickets. But I ended up talking to Shannon for about 45 minutes and became "friends" with him.
He was as polite as fk and gave respect . remember it was was a short .. on the spot phone interview and unfortunatley he was probably fkd up on hammer !!! ... he didn't even know where he was playing ! so yup you would expect him to forget things .. i think , he felt the band were not on the same page as himself.. that prob ly came from his addiction. he refers to Pearl Jam as being a unit several times , thats why he didnt mention other bands. He must have been longing for that as well..

no rain was popular in 93. It was released in 92 lol. he mentions nirvanas "new" album and he talks about wanting to work with butch vig. nirvana used butch vig on nevermind. nevermind was released in 91. he also says that no rain will be on the blind melon cd, which means it wasnt even out yet! therefore, this interview must be from 91 or early 92.

PJ looked and sounded more like a corporate product when they first hit than Nirvana did. It was much easier to take a quick passing listen & look at PJ and mistake them for a corporate creation at the time than Nirvana.
MTV also tried to fabricate a feud between Nirvana and PJ for a while, which didn't help anything either.
PJ was just a little too marketable for its own good when it first hit the scene.

Shannon was a beautiful person and his spirit and music continue to this day to have a positive affect on peoples lives.

A great artist, Shannon Hoon, loving another great band, Pearl Jam. How fucking great is that? Blind Melon and Pearl Jam, two of the greatest artists, absolutely loved each other. Music had such soul back in the early 90s.

It was released in 92 lol. he mentions nirvanas "new" album and he talks about wanting to work with butch vig. nirvana used butch vig on nevermind. nevermind was released in 91. he also says that no rain will be on the blind melon cd, which means it wasnt even out yet! therefore, this interview must be from 91 or early 92.

PJ looked and sounded more like a corporate product when they first hit than Nirvana did. It was much easier to take a quick passing listen & look at PJ and mistake them for a corporate creation at the time than Nirvana.
MTV also tried to fabricate a feud between Nirvana and PJ for a while, which didn't help anything either.
PJ was just a little too marketable for its own good when it first hit the scene.
