Wow what an amazing place ! What is the history of the desert and it's formations,in short ? (instead of the 3-page explinations Wikipedia has) ?

@blunklaura. Hi Laura. This desertic landscape and specially these white compositions represents the bottom of the sea/ocean (million of years ago). White mushrooms and white mountains are sediments of chalk. Originally this "soft rock" was a full block. Water (paleolitic rivers), Rain and Wind have manipulated and designed these strange and high silhouettes. Down the first level of sand you'll find a lot of dust of chalk (that seriously affects cameras, lens and electronic devices) ;-(
