... thinking back now ... i really wonder why. cause part of the lyric talks about the grandpa and grandma argueing to the point where they start breaking cookware over how to cook what they dug up!
Sky starts to rain as it is getting darker and darker,Grandpa digs for tarot roots but instead finds 泥鰍 (weatherfish)。When it comes to cooking,they have different opinions on preparation。Grandpa prefers it salty but Grandma likes it plain。Soon it becomes an argument and accidentally results in pots and pans hitting the floor。
@Alexchau2000 I know fluent Mandarin and Cantonese. I also learn Vietnamese since 2 years. Mandarin have no stop sound, so what I said is concluded from southern Chinese languages. Anyway, I dont discuss on this level. Its just so sad to see so many people without manners, who use the internet to insult other people they dont know.
What I said about "o" is correct anyway - just ask some experts.
So you know fluent Mandarin,cantonese and Vietnamese, eh. That mean you know nothing about Hokkien language, Teochew and Hainanese Language. (hahahahaha)
Since you know Vietnamese, you know what the sentence mean!
"thợ nước mà Đi sửa điện"
Who is that expert you are talking about???? is that Meo Zedong's good children
Mutual intelligibilitySpoken: Chinchew (Quanzhou) speech, Xiamen (Amoy) speech, Changchew (Zhangzhou) speech and Taiwanese are mutually intelligible.
Teochew and Amoy Hokkien speech are 84% phonetically similar[6] and 34% lexically similar, whereas Mandarin and Amoy Min Nan are 62% phonetically similar[6] and 15% lexically similar. In comparison, German and English are 60% lexically similar.[8]
(OMG, look like I am speaking to a real PRINCESS)
@Alexchau2000 lol, what the point of all the statistics, you don't know the actual Chinese word, SkyDarmos was right, o in Chinese is 乌 not 黑 (which is hiak in hokkien, and hêg4 in Teochew).
anyway, this song is a good nature fun song, no point of arguing...etc. But just for fun, 弄破锅 (broke the cooking pod)should be 弄破鼎。 鼎 "tia" is the same as in Teochew, 鼎 is the tri-legs ancient Chinese cooking pod, Min-nan language (to which Teochew belongs) retain a lot of ancient Chinese words.
@Alexchau2000 Don’t worry, it’s all for fun :) Of course your Teochew is Chinese, both 黑 and 乌 means the same thing in Chinese – black. It is just customary or habit that some times 乌 (btw, in Teochew is pronounced “ou”) is used in certain words and other time 黑 is used. E.g. the blackboard (or chalk board) in Teochew we say “heg-pang” 黑板, we never say “ou-pang” 乌板; “dark cloudy sky” we say “ti’n ou ou” 天乌乌,now if you say “ti’n heg heg” 天黑黑 no one can understand you. :)
I have heard Teresa Teng singing in Mandarin, Cantonese, English, and now Hokkien. They are all very good. She was born to sing. We are glad to have had
@chan20060512 Is this Teresa Teng singing here? I'm am just starting to learn about Taiwanese music and singers, so sorry if that is a silly question. This is a beautiful song, especially a version by Hu Min-Hong.

The sky clouded up and was going to rain.
Grandfather went out and tried to dig out some taros.
He dug and dug.
Then he dug out a loch.
I-YA-HEY-DO-What a funny thing.
Grandfather and grandmother wanted to cook the loch.
Grandfather preferred the taste heavier.
However Grandmother preferred the taste lighter.
They two had a big fight and broke the pan.
I-YA-HEY-DO-LON-DONG-CHING-DON-CHANG (The sound of pan-breaking)

liuhuafan 1 year ago
fhlew 1 year ago

"o" should be written with 烏 (crow, black, dark) not with 黑 (black).
烏 is wu, u or o in most dialects, 黑 have -k stop sound in all dialects.
Chinese characters should be used etymologically correct.

@chapsroc yeah, you're right. I was wrong after all.
I am very sorry for this. My apologies.
It's my family taught me teochew since the childhood that 黑 in Teochew is o.
From what I see was Teochew and Hokkien in Vietnam (including me), Cambodia and Penang use o for 黑
Could it be that the Teochew my family taught me wasn't Teochew in China or could it be we, Hue Nang, in southeast asia are not actually Chinese

tadpolenese 1 year ago 3
99b2146 1 year ago
@99b2146
