what is going on with the g fsharps .Beethoven does some compositional stuff .This intense sonata is fraught with meaning but I can barely find a way in after 20 years . I think it sounds disturbingly romantic like Schumann in a really bad mood but without his pianistic figuration. This would be a good Beeth quartet. And when does he write in e minor ?
@MaestroTJS I am not a big fan of Bohemia and I am not sure about its relation to the Rieger-Kloss (the company of Bohemia Pianos was based on people formerly employed by PETROF)... I definitely prefer to play Steinway whenever it is possible...
@pohlpiano Yeah, Bohemia and Rieger-Kloss are the same company, R-K is just a brand name (but not a lower-line like how Boston or Essex are to Steinway).
I didn't mean to suggest they were in the same category as a Steinway, though. ;) I do prefer the sound of mine to most, if not all, Asian uprights I've heard, but uprights have their limitations, of course. I have not played a Bohemia grand....
Churches are always such terrible venues for piano. It seems that more transparant, less thick writing comes off better, say Op. 74 (F#), Op. 26 (Ab) or even Op. 110 (Ab).
I thought I saw that sonata in one of the Diploma syllabuses for ABRSM - If it is, then I'd definitely do that that one too. Having some trouble though with that left hand! I can see that Pohl raises his wrist to give him a longer reach, but my teacher says to go low and either swing or "oscillate". Any suggestions anyone?
Actually, similar is also my advice and what I believe was trying to do, although it is for the size of my hand not that visible - the swinging for sure, about wrist - that maybe depends on the form of your palm as well. But I didnt want to raise much, it is just that I usually play with my wrist a little bit raised most of the time.
thanks for the upload...I'm playing that for my June exams...and it's giving me a hard time in some parts...additionally my two teachers cannot agree on some interpretive aspects on this Beethoven Sonata...
PS> I don't really like the acoustics of this church (?)

Very good performance. The building sometimes swallows some of the notes, but at other times it sounds nice.
Are you playing a Bohemia? I just bought a Bohemia (Rieger-Kloss) upright...what do you think of the piano?

Hi EilisErina.
I am studying the piece at the moment. Have you any tips for the sections with consecutive tenths in? I have small hands and am finding it difficult,
