Things started to sour after the invasion of Iraq in 2003. War is not usually good for the Economy. How FDR and LBJ ever pulled it off, I haven't quite figured out yet. But, that was when the Economy really started to slump again after 9/11. It wasn't the big fall of recent but it still wasn't too good. Merchants have been struggling to have good Holiday sales for several years now.

There is no presently looming petrodollar crisis because Saddam is dead and our military presence in Iraq prevents any monetary monkey business.
