In the Studio DEEN anime that's how it happened. But this follows Yoshihiro Takahashi's manga (which is the ORIGINAL GDW), and there are quite a few things that are different from DEEN's version.

Got cold shivers from that scene Smith saves GB:s life. This is the way they should have make the real Weed anime, I don't understand, why they had to chance it. And I cannot say that this would be at least more bad than original Weed anime. Taking pics from manga was nice idea too :3

Reading that scene in the manga made me respect Smith even more. I really love the manga, I agree, I wish DEEN had at LEAST stayed true to the original story. Their artwork could have been better, too. I've seen some of their other work, and man, they didn't put too much effort into GDW :/
