This was a great video. Currently looking into using skype to replace my cell and home phone, so this would be a great purchase and your video helped me get an idea of how it worked. Thanks.
@gadgettts Where did you see that there is wifi? I saw that you can hook it up to a router (wireless or other) but no where have I seen that it has wifi capability. Just curious if I am missing something. Thanks for a great review!
@geeksmack Catholicism is a religion, Christianity is a blanket term for anyone who believes in Jesus Christ. As far as I know most Christian denominations broke away from Catholocism so they are demoninations of us! A Christian can be a Catholic, a Methodist, or someone from the creepy Xenos cult.
Belkin only sells one Desktop Skype Phone... so it should be easy to find. --- If you want an alternative, I would suggest that you take a look at one of those USB Headset/Microphone units. They bypass your internal sound card and typically their sound quality is pretty good.
The quality of a Skype call (when you have enough bandwidth) has always been better than that of a cell phone or landline. -- That means that a Skype-Skype call will sound better than a Skype-POTS or Skype-Cell call.
not w/ im asking , i got a head set and i still have probloms i had w/out it. when i call land linds i can hear them fine; but they get an echo from me.
Ok... so you're going to want to disable full-duplex communications. Essentially you've either got a poorly-designed headset, speakers that are running at the same time, or come kind of crosstalk going on in the internal mixed on your computer.
You wouldn't get that kind of echo with the Belkin phone.
I am so very sorry for having offended you. Obviously we have not been sensitive enough in our production or clear enough in our delivery to avoid confusing poor individuals like yourself who lack the ability to understand that the vast majority of people in this world cannot be neatly divided into your own personal classifications.
In the future we will try to USE BIG LETTERS in our titles to ensure that you will not mistakenly be exposed to our callous work.
I'm not a fan of Belkin, but thought I'd give them another try as I want a desktop Skype no computer needed phone so tried their F1PP010EN-SK. The keys don't make solid connection so you have to pay attention with each press.
There is no dialing setting preferences for prefixes. So you always have to dial country and area codes and the + sign such as:
+1310
I'm returning it and I'll try the IPEVO instead which has these prefs. Belkin makes inferior products and has poor tech support anyway.
It's a system of buying "minuted" on the Skype-In and Skype-Out service. You don't have to pay anything to make calls on the Skype network itself. (i.e. Skype to Skype calls are always free) But if you go OFF the network (receive a call from the Cell or POTS network, or vice versa) you have to pay.
I bought the phone and hooked it up relatively easily. I liked the phone, except for the fact that it constantly disconnected from the internet and wouldn't re-connect without the user having to unplug and replug the phone, basically resetting it. I tried everything and couldn't keep it connected to my relatively fast DSL Internet. Also, I know what you mean about the weight if the headset. It almost felt like a toy. But if you could keep it connected, yes it would be a good phone.
This guy is a Jesuit priest? He missed his true calling -- host of the Home Shopping Club.... a little to commercial for a priest. May God have mercy on his soul.
This phone is awesome! Thanks to watching this video a few months ago, I purchased a Skype desktop phone made by Belkin and it's not that much work to get used to. The greatest thing was when I had a computer problem, I didn't have to fix the computer to talk on the phone!!!!!! Thanks for posting this video, I'm very pleased with my purchase. I even brought it with me during Christmas to my family so I wouldn't have to use their phone. Everyone thought I was at my home. LOL
This is an extremely good review. You have covered seemingly every aspect of the Belkin Phone. I am really going to look into buying this phone for my home and can't wait until your next Skype review. Thanks.
Does anyone know if this skype device will allow you to do 3 way conference calls over skype out/in to regular phones? What about call transfer? Thanks.
i use skype for my home phone instead of vonage free calls to landlines and cellphones within the US and canada for only 2.95/month and only 60 bucks more a yea to get you own personal number its just awesome!
god is not real it hurts i know but look at the zietgiest videpo you are bieng controlled by the illuminati faith is just something used so that u want qouistounthe fact that your told everything that is right and bieng ciontrolled.
Thanks for spreading your illuminated wisdom. It's always nice to hear that the illuminati are alive and well and messing with our minds. Peace, Fr. Robert
i love your show and all but do you have to mention your religion and where you are? do they make you do that or do you just do it cus its kinda annoying, but hey dont get me wrong i love watching this show
First of all, thanks for watching... I am always grateful to our viewers.
As for the intro... I'm trying to mix things up a bit, but I do want to keep at least a little mention of who I am and what I do. It's only about 10 seconds, but I can see how that might get annoying after 84 episodes!
hahah yeah man im glad you have so many episodes now but im sorry if i come off like a jerk, me and you have spoken before but yeah if its because you want to let people know who you are and stuff then i dont mind, keep it in there cus i dont want you to change something that means somethin to you, nkow what i mean? but anyway keep up the good work man, btw that phone is pretty sweet, i wonder if they could tap into the ethernet power
You don't come off as a jerk. You raised a perfecty valid point and I'm grateful. I really am looking at a better way of opening and closing the show. I'm hoping that we'll have something concrete by the time CES 2009 rolls in.
As for the phone, yeah... I think POE would be excellent. Peace, Fr. Robert
Well... the audio isn't my fault this time... YouTube seems to be playing with a new compression technique that is really screwing up my audio quality.... hmmmm... now I have to go figure out how to get around it! Peace, Fr. Robert
I love how you lead into the review the same way every time, like how big-time announcers like to hype people up (eg. ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE!!!!) you say, "We've had a few weeks to play with it, and this is what we found out."
well done Padre :-)

You DO know that Catholicism is a Christian denomination, yes?
Or perhaps you are one of these, "all other faiths suck except for the one I follow" types.

Fr Robert..
I apologies for bringing it up, but have you watched both zeitgeist documentary's?
I know its not the sort of thing you do, but how about you review both of them on YouTube & see the response you get from your youtube audience.
ZEITGEIST & ZEITGEIST ADDENDUM
The evidence in them documentary's & supposed conspiracy's are actually starting to unfold clearer and more accurate than any book of god
Don't be afraid to open your eyes to the truth, & dont be quick to judge.
