I had mine in for one week my bowel shut down after surgery the poor sister had all the green stuff all over her as i was very ill and she got 2 lt of fluid out the 1st time. Its so much harder to have that put down when you are so ill and being sick at the same time and that tube looks alot smaller then the one i had she is lucky.
as both someone who has HAD a tube AND has placed a tube, this is ALL wrong! the patient should be in high fowlers (more upright), should be covered and have an emesis basin and should have a cup of water with a straw, ready to sip when she feels the tube in the back of her throat. Additionally, you do NOT insert the NG tube straight up the nose, but rather it should go almost straight in, allowing the curve of the tube to follow the curve of the nares.

Did you have to undergo abdominal surgery? I had the NG before my appendectomy surgery, and my appendix was healthy :-S
