Interestingly enough, the bible has ALWAYS been a document put together with an agenda. From ancient Jewish sects to the Council of Nicea to the plethora of "versions" of the bible. Each is shaped by the interpetations and intent of the person or persons putting it toegther.

But there are quotes out their by high sources, and obvious factors, which you should do some research on. I can tell by "the fruit'" of the things that have been written that many are corrupt.
@aahonn it worked and works now. you can't believe in it otherwise if isn't true. that's why have both secular and religious institutes for bible research. the evidence can be got from older versions of the bible, and many have survived.
i believe evidence, not "high sources". "the fruit" can be validated by the existing documentated societies from that time and their behaviour, its debatable in even the most little things, that's why its interesting and challenge, and that's the beauty of it.

The reason I think the Bible is conservative is that religion is inherently reactionary; even Jesus, in his day, was preaching the old religion against the new Roman occupation.
Anyway to conclude, a Christian by definition is a person who follows the example of Jesus, not outdated 19th centuary morals or even the OT. Jesus was a pretty liberal guy and a Chrisitan should act as such. If you were to edit the Bible to just the 'good' bits (the nature of 'good' is as always debateable) then Matthew, Mark, Luke and John would certainly be there.

It's specific words and phrases; if we're pushing a liberal bias, Jesus' instruction to buy a sword in Mark could be softened to "a pen-knife is very useful"; if we're trying to excise liberal references (and I can't rightly think of any off the top of my head), then the same thing could be done, one word for another of similar meaning.

I started with nothing! Thankfully I grew up in a country with a social system (and high taxes), where I could afford an education and receive a hefty loan, then I worked hard to become educated with my own effort and diligence. Now I am a leading expert in my field (Power Engineering), with several university degrees. I can have a healthy income, (pay my taxes, repay my loans ect.) and contribute to society in a way that would be impossible without this chance. Re-assess your beliefs
in fact allowing everyone to have a chance means the people who hold the highest positions in the country (who R the top of any respective field) are actually the smartest and the best since they are a selection from EVERYONE, not just the best of a pool of the wealthy who can afford to study, learn a trade ect.
Then the people who are leaders and in charge are of higher quality and everything is run more efficiently and better, so everyone benefits. Even the wealthy who did not receive 'aid'

While rewriting the Bible is a bad idea, it'd probably be a good idea if they included new books in it that got left out when it was compiled, like the Gospels of Mary or Lilith in the OT.
Also it would help if we threw out more of St Paul. That'd end a lot of misoginy and homophobia. And we could have a retranslation of Sodom and Gammorah along with a quick chapter at the end which explains about the volcano.

I hate to invoke Godwin's Law here, but this is basically what the Nazi leaders did with Christianity. They wanted to change it so that it was more consistent with Nazi ideology. @lilchanchan864 sure ...the verse is Luke 13:18. Everyone who is in hell is tortured and punished like you mentioned. Yes, Satan is a prisoner, but we must also keep in mind that hell is his domain. Alot of people debate this topic because many things in the Bible are based on implicit teachings (implied rather than specifically stated), but regardless of who is right I just hope neither one of us have to go there personally to find out.
@Travaillons God is a loving and merciful God who gives everyone the opportunity to make it into Heaven. But if people choose not to accept Jesus as their savior then they will surely go to hell. You can't believe some of the Bible and refuse to acknowledge all of it. Christianity is loving but not tolerant, rather very exclusive. Jesus is the way, truth and life...the only way to the father and to heaven. Hope this helps bring some clarity.

Interestingly enough, the bible has ALWAYS been a document put together with an agenda. From ancient Jewish sects to the Council of Nicea to the plethora of "versions" of the bible. Each is shaped by the interpetations and intent of the person or persons putting it toegther.
This one only stands out in it's recentness.

@aahonn it worked and works now. you can't believe in it otherwise if isn't true. that's why have both secular and religious institutes for bible research. the evidence can be got from older versions of the bible, and many have survived.
i believe evidence, not "high sources". "the fruit" can be validated by the existing documentated societies from that time and their behaviour, its debatable in even the most little things, that's why its interesting and challenge, and that's the beauty of it.

There are some good ones but even "God" "Jesus" whoever wants us too look deeper into things, question what is questionable because if evil can take advantage of a situation, it will and it will do it almost flawlessly. I'm going by my tuition and observation of history in the Church.

Anyway to conclude, a Christian by definition is a person who follows the example of Jesus, not outdated 19th centuary morals or even the OT. Jesus was a pretty liberal guy and a Chrisitan should act as such. If you were to edit the Bible to just the 'good' bits (the nature of 'good' is as always debateable) then Matthew, Mark, Luke and John would certainly be there.

@RequiemVortex: Depends what you mean by "good" and how detailed the editing job is; no one would edit out the gospels, or any other book entire from the Bible.
It's specific words and phrases; if we're pushing a liberal bias, Jesus' instruction to buy a sword in Mark could be softened to "a pen-knife is very useful"; if we're trying to excise liberal references (and I can't rightly think of any off the top of my head), then the same thing could be done, one word for another of similar meaning.

You can give somone food, clothes, and a place to sleep but not a place to live. If you did what the bible said and gave everyone what they asked for, you wouldnt have anything. I started with nothing! Thankfully I grew up in a country with a social system (and high taxes), where I could afford an education and receive a hefty loan, then I worked hard to become educated with my own effort and diligence. Now I am a leading expert in my field (Power Engineering), with several university degrees. I can have a healthy income, (pay my taxes, repay my loans ect.) and contribute to society in a way that would be impossible without this chance. Re-assess your beliefs

While rewriting the Bible is a bad idea, it'd probably be a good idea if they included new books in it that got left out when it was compiled, like the Gospels of Mary or Lilith in the OT.
Also it would help if we threw out more of St Paul. That'd end a lot of misoginy and homophobia. And we could have a retranslation of Sodom and Gammorah along with a quick chapter at the end which explains about the volcano.

Firstly, if this is on Conservapedia, I wouldn't even take it seriously. Half of that site seems more like satire than anything else. Secondly, if it did happen, I'm sure the majority of Christians would reject such a document. Thomas Jefferson made up his own version of the Bible, removing anything supernatural. Of course, it never caught on. Many liberals and conservatives take bits of the Bible out of context and use it for their own agenda, often because they haven't actually read all of it.

I hate to invoke Godwin's Law here, but this is basically what the Nazi leaders did with Christianity. They wanted to change it so that it was more consistent with Nazi ideology. They wanted to see Jesus regarded more as an "aryan fighter" against the Jews, rather than some pacifist chump who died on a cross (see: Positive Christianity). In essence, they wanted to take the "liberal bias" out of the Christian doctrine.

Jesus in the Bible is by no means a character worth following!
Heaven must be worse than hell, because it's full of people who believed AGAINST all evidence, who are happy to glorify an evil ego maniac god, who are happy to see the suffering of those in Hell (do check your Bible!)... Hell is the place where the Prometheus lives: Why is Satan also called Lucifer? ;-))

@grozde Well, hence the concept of sin. There is a codex and your application of the codex says what kind of person you are, no higher wisdom in that.
My bible? Why do you think I'm Christian? And for your information I've read it from begining to end, and I do see the consistency. And being happy towards other's suffering is a human flaw which I myself and I don't think many people are entirely free of that, have to try to avoid.
And Satan has many names and forms, so what?

@grozde No, hypotheticly, if your family is forcevely keeping you away from your ideals you should fight it to keep them. Something that western societies know a lot about.
Eternal hell for most man kind? No, Christians have bigger weight to carry than others even. Non-Christians that behave accourdingly can be many times be more Christian than Christian, so to speak. And the rules are simple and can be expressed in several sentences.

@grozde Its not Jesus' fault some people after 2000 years don't understand him. From what I see, you are cherry picking it and have very little theological knowledge about it.
The Bible doesn't have an agenda on something that only adds to the confusion because some guy fails to understand what is said, and with that understanding makes the passage a black sheep in the NT.

The problem is not that I don't understand the Bible, it's that I've read it ENTIRELY! And it simply doesn't make sense! Same like if a Muslim tells you that you don't understand god, because you don't understand the Koran: it's not the lack of understanding, it's the lack of meaningful content ;-)

I don't want to get personal, though a grunch against a whole religion usually is one, but every passage in it and its all context were exaplained by numerous people over and over again, and its logical. If you don't want to invest patience, time and energy, none of it won't make any sense ever in reality. We can do this all year long. If you want to keep a 19th century mindset its your problem

@grozde You yourself can't help but having the same disease, as I can see yourself value concepts that are products of a Christian mindset. If you want to escape it completely, study Buddhism, lol.
And Satan does the torturing to those act his ways, and free will is the thing that gives the option of doing good or evil. And faith, and how it exists in every segment of our lives, including science, arts. All of it has foundations in faith if you trace it deep enough and non-dogmaticly.

He is just as much of a prisoner in hell as everyone else
The concept of Satan ruling hell comes from the misinterpretation of Paradise Lost by John Milton.

The Bible never really mentioned anything about this, and those that do generally imply Satan to be just a mere prisoner.

And Hell is a prison.
And demons are prison guards.
And prison wardens are not evil people they are normal people
just like prison guards are normal people.
So that means Satan and demons are good.

@DrMlieko The Bible does speak of Satan torturing, have you read the book of Job? What do you think Jesus was referring to when He stated, "there will be weeping and gnashing teeth". Which means Satan is going to torture whoever goes to hell. Revelations fortells of the tortue that will ensue when Satan wreaks havoc on earth. So what Bible are you reading?

@lilchanchan864 sure ...the verse is Luke 13:18. Everyone who is in hell is tortured and punished like you mentioned. Yes, Satan is a prisoner, but we must also keep in mind that hell is his domain. Alot of people debate this topic because many things in the Bible are based on implicit teachings (implied rather than specifically stated), but regardless of who is right I just hope neither one of us have to go there personally to find out.

@Travaillons God is a loving and merciful God who gives everyone the opportunity to make it into Heaven. But if people choose not to accept Jesus as their savior then they will surely go to hell. You can't believe some of the Bible and refuse to acknowledge all of it. Christianity is loving but not tolerant, rather very exclusive. Jesus is the way, truth and life...the only way to the father and to heaven. Hope this helps bring some clarity.

@Travaillons Oh i'm sorry lol Well to be quite honest I do not believe that all homosexuals go to hell. I was taught that as long as you are truly saved then no one can take that away from you. All they have to do is take that step and God will mold them into what He wants them to be. Once again I'm sorry for my rant lol

@Travaillons I have had dealt with homosexual feelings in the past. I overcame them and moved on in the straight direction in life. I can say that I am 100% Straight now and will never go back. I did have a choice and I DID take it.

@h2jazz5 Now, I'm not for satanism or anything, but you can't say that he's struggling for the wrong side. Anyone on the other side probably thinks God is struggling for the wrong side. Part of human nature to naturally believe your enemies are wrong. That's what the humans who wrote the bible (without a spiritual diety's help most likely, given all the contradictions and factual errors in the bible) were thinking at the time.

If a person is unwilling to sacrifice anything for his own well-being and well-being of others, he usually ends up being a slave, as slavery made through the absense of struggle and phlegmatism. Thus people don't need to wait a hell in an afterlife, it could be as well pretty much mundane.
