Despite simplification by way of a snatched breath and changes she makes in the dotted rhythm, Hempel simultaneously adds the extra high notes (as if to compensate). But, no matter, I love her singing anyway for the peerless virtuosity, warm tone, phrasing, and clear diction.
This as one of the first renditions of this aria I ever listened to and for ages afterwards I would listen out for thosee extra high notes and wonder why they weren't there! Fantastic performance - not many too much better than this in the hunder years or so that have followed. Thanks for the post.
I am proud of that german singer! what an artist

Was the extra F, D, and A necessary AND the last tempo, what happened!?? I mean without it, it was awesome!

it 's tip top! she sing very well but it's a pity the 78 Lp qualité wasn't so .
Très bien domage qu'en ce temps, les enregistrements n'avaient pas la qualité hifi. mais pr un 78tours c'est déjà remarquable.

I have such respect for this lady. Who in their right mind would try to make this aria even harder than it already is?
