Rimmer said that about having the memories of both himself and lister. He couldnt have had it out twice himself could he? I was talking about his experience plus listers experience. "Thats why I had my appendix out twice" He couldnt have had it out twice himself could he lol
It could be that when he was turned back into a human in the episode DNA in series IV his appendix was brought back too. So Legion could have removed it again.
Both Rimmer and Lister had had their appendix removed before joining Red Dwarf, and with Lister giving Rimmer a chunk of his memory Rimmer remembered both his and Lister's experiences, which is where his comment fits in.
When Lister was turned into... various things in the episode DNA his genetic code sort of reset, so when he became human again his appendix was intact. Therefore Legion removing it (for the second time) is logically possible.
im an american. i love nearly all star trek. except the one with the quantum leap guy. and, for years i thought that there should be an outer space comedy. so, i am watching british comedies on PBS in dallas, texas and red dwarf comes on. immediately i became a fan. i really believe that if the bbc were to let an american network run this show in primetime, it would be a hit. forget trying to make an american version, just rerun this one.
Aside from the fact that Red Dwarf never gave a damn about continuity, you can just chalk it up to DNA probably, where lister goes from human to chicken to hamster back to human again. You can tell yourself he got in back during the process if you want. Me? Im just glad its such a great comedy, screw the continuity, I save that for when I watch Star Trek: The Next Generation.
If youre referring to the Star Trek TNG episode where the crew lose their memories and try to unravel why, yes I agree its similar. Just like Gunmen of the Apocalpyse is uncannily similar to "A Fistful of Datas", where a ship malfunction causes problems for the characters who are stuck in a wild west computer simulation.
I dont care though, I love TNG and Red Dwarf both, and if they sometimes appear similar, its all the more fun for me.
This show is incredible! Even the science is kinda beleivable (considering we rarely see any). Are there any Red Dwarf novels out there.

Lister had his appendix out by legion in season VI which means he wouldnt have been able to have it out before this episode.

No it was Rimmer who said that. Not Lister. :)
