"If you want to know about an Opivy reunion, take the problems from that common rider bit and multiply it by about 2,000, bring in LAWYERS and record companies, interrupt six or seven lives, and also add the factor of putting a band that never belonged in a big rock club in a one to two thousand seat joint. Oh yeah plus doing it without involving Clear Channel or other right wing fronts. So will it happen? The most honest answer is probably not."
Tim did not sell out. The man is ALIVE and still making music and making money doing it but that is not selling out. His message and his music remains true and the fact that under it all he is a f'ing brilliant businessman takes nothing away. Let the dominoes fall has its weak spots bit overall is absolutely true to Tim's music and message, those who want to tear it apart whatever... saw them on tour for the album and it was great to see both old punks and young kids totally pumped and moshing,
@kenzadelphia I agree with you there dude. I remember when the first Rancid record came out. All the punks in Minneapolis shredded them, calling them sellouts and shit. I bought into it for a while because they weren't as good as Op Iv. Then I heard Time Bomb and shit my pants. Over the years I see that Tim has proven to have a better job than me, and that's all. Everyone grows up whether punks like it or not, and so far, I don't see him performing at the Super Bowl, or on Top 40.Not a sellout:)
@millerfat exactly, and if your musics so good that your making money off it then you cant be doing wrong by allowing success, who would take shit over riches just to be legit? none of these arm chair critics thats for sure. you can stay within your group and still be good enough to be recognized by a broader crowd. theres a great difference between mainstream commercial shit thats produced solely for money, and real music that just so happens to make money cuz its that fuckin good.
all musicians have something to learn from op ivy man. the same way we can all learn something from the beatles, the stones, james brown, etc. these guys were brilliant.
no matter what, where ever i go and start talking to people about music and someone mentions operation ivy will both say NO WAY!! you like Oeration ivy?? thats so cool!! and then start talking about our favorite songs by them and this one always is mentiond with out fail
Everyone talks about operation ivy like its all over but Rancid is so amazing they kept a lot of the signiture sound and even improved on some things I love operation ivy but if you really miss them so much listen to Rancid
tim hasnt sold out....theres nothing wrong with making money outta music...so long as you're not exploiting people and so long as its real and not manufactured
@PsychobillyCreeper anybody who says tim has sold out is a fool. he didnt sell out. he made his OWN record company and produced music through that. That is his own working. its not like he sold his music to some major studio
@PsychobillyCreeper Rancid was the first real band I got into. As much as I like them, they sold out. There new shit is just shit. I don't know anyone who likes their last cd that even knew that they had more then one. The first cd is where it is at, everything after that is just plain sell outs. It would be nice to actually see tim play guitar sometime at a live show. Now lars does everything and controls the band.
@lilsammywasapunkrock what you gotta remember is that they arent kids anymore. they've matured along with their sound, fair enough if you dont like the music they made on their last album, but you cant tell me they're sell outs because their sound has changed.
@PsychobillyCreeper There sound didn't evolve, it changed. It hasn't been about music for quite some time. Its obvious to anyone who has listened to all of their cd's. The simple fact that you cannot call them punk anymore, speaks louder then I could. And I am not just trashing them. They are, and will always be one of my favorite bands.
@lilsammywasapunkrock i have listened to all their records and it aint obvious to me. they've said they write music for how they feel at the time, hense rancid v being so much more "angry" than life wont wait and wolves.
there's no way they're sell outs (if you're understanding of sell outs is the same as mine), they've just changed...most bands do, some fans like it some dont. but thats what makes a band, a band
isn't amazing to see how the lengendary bands like Op Ivy and the misfits had SHIT amps and equipment. the average high school band has better equipment these days. sounds like the bass amp was dead or something... maybe it's just he video camera of the time too. still, it's amazing how little they had to work with.
too bad they split up...they were sooo good. Operation Ivy is by far my favorite band, then the misfits, then red hot chili peppers (not stadium arcadium)
yer fab yo! I used to freakin live like 15 mins from Guernville! Ri-on! Haha-Guernville... The North Bay rawks! Annnd Op Ivy of course-gotta give ups to them naturally.
