One problem is that most TV stations which make reports like this are collectively stupider than most hoax theorists.

Even the hoax nuts don't claim ZERO GRAVITY on the moon, or that gravity has anything to do with the flag waving. It would be ideal conditions to see the stars: only light from the deep space could get into your eyes (the Sun being behind LEM, Earth and the Moon surface behind your head). No contrast problems. No atmosphere. You would see the stars as well as orbiting the night side Earth.
