Ugh, their dancing is beautiful. It makes me wish I could be good at ballet. I've been dancing my whole life, especially doing ballet but I'll never be good at it. Short legs, not thin enough, I have zero natural turnout and I have terrible arches... I've quit most of my ballet by now to focus on other dance.

Great video! Danceing is my passion! I love it! It makes me feel free! And if a tall dancer has hope of being a principal then so do I! I'm 5'8 and 12 years old and just starting dancing. But nothing will stop me from going on pointe one day and living my dream!! ;)

i just dont understand why does height matter? shouldn't it be the technique and dancing?!

@TheDancer4ever18 It *should*, but the ballet world is extremely cutthroat. It's all about a perfect image, a perfect line. And the partnering thing is an issue too; if a woman is too tall to be partnered by the tallest principal male, she probably won't become a principal, and the same thing for short women. It's a shame (which I have personal experience with, being a 5'1" dancer), but that's just the way it is most of the time.

i prefer a dancer who is avg height or tall. Its just something about when a girl with long legs can use them...

I love ballet, unfortunatly I don't have a very good ballerinas body :-( I'm tall, got big boobs, big hips and a short neck! But nothing is gonna stop me from dreaming big! xx Ballet <3

@arktana This is 2012. Russians dominated the 70's and 80's, but Comapanies today are focused on new and interesting. Talented dancers from all over the world are performing for the world, and that is a good thing.

It means there might be someone who's technique is better than yours but they might not bring to the table the same passion you might bring.

The really tall dancer in this video is going to bring to the stage/ audition so much more because she really needs it. Her shorter counterpart might not because she knows her high range is more in demand.
