Furtwaegler 's version is the incomparable version . No metric tempo but the real pulse of music instead. see video: revolution of Beethoven -Egmont ( with furtwaegler)
What i love about Beethoven is that most of his music symbolizes the hardships he went through being a musician, the most obvious one being that he was completely deaf by age 50, and even still he went on to compose his most memorable pieces. This song shows that in that it begins somewhat dark and gloomy and ends in a triumphant and happy manner, the man was truly a master of his craft.
@tjryser1 According to my music history professor, the first eight notes of the Fifth (and we all know how THAT goes) represent Fate saying to Beethoven,"I'm going to throw every possible obstacle in your path and see what you do with it."
@MrMisharos The hungarian revolution in 1956!!! "A spontaneous nationwide revolt against the government of the People's Republic of Hungary and its Soviet-imposed policies, lasting from 23 October until 10 November 1956."
@ordude123 : I'm with you... growing up in a house of musicians and artists - it's kind of hard NOT to have a love and/or appreciation for multiple music genres. And people that tend to not limit themselves to one type of music tend to not be so close-minded to other people, cultures, and personalities... at least that's been my experience...
I love this its beautiful!!! I can't belive that there are 7 dislikes i mean i know some peoples don't like classical music and thats okay everyone likes diffrent things BUT EVEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE CLASSICAL MUSIC HOW CAN YOU DISLIKE THIS ?? ITS IMPOSSIBLE!!!! AND JUST LIKE Sorasfriend said DON'T EVEN BOTHER WATCHING IT IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT !!!!
@sirshitsalot007 Well to be uber specific, it's actually all in 3/4; besides the ending of the piece (6:52), which is in cut time, and the very beginning which is in 3/2 until the Allegro :P
@sirshitsalot007 The funniest thing about this is that, today in orchestra, near the end of class, people started to sound out bits and pieces from the Pirates of the Caribbean theme after we had worked on some parts to this piece.
it is clearly a photo, not so clearly beethoven, but very convincing. in fact i like to think that some clever inventor was way ahead of his time .It is a beautiful photo of possibly a genius by another genius. please someone investigate.
That photograph can't be of Beethoven. I thought the photograph wasn't invented until the late 1830's. Then again, maybe that was when it was first patented. I'm sure Beethoven was dead after 1827.
@MyNameIsBenneth and even if the date would match, it is wrong to think they could photograph movements (which this clearly is as the person is walking), it would have taken a couple of hours to capture the foto, so there couldn't be any movement.
His other music are like he's regarding something, like a feeling or a specific image in his head...but this one...he's telling a story, it's not the demonstration of a feeling or the representation of something, it's a whole story he's telling, I can almost read it like a book.
not like rap hip hop percussion. if you listen to tchaikovsky and shostakovich music, they love using a lot of percussion, which really adds to the color.
i suppose so, but none of those composers are nearly as great as any of the great music composed in the 18th century, such as Albinoni, Bach, Corelli, Handel, Telemann, Vivaldi, Haydn, and Mozart
One thing I'd point out is that orchestras were smaller, and stringed instrument much quieter, back then. Therefore, it was never thought of to use a lot of loud instruments that would drown out the strings. This would also include low brass/wind instruments, lots of horns, etc.
@VenomEmperor Beethoven made greater use of percussion than any other composer who preceded him. Ask any timpani player in an orchestra. That's probably why people named a drum kit after him.
The Woodwind section (Oboe, flute) plus the Strings (Violins, Cello, Double Bass) make this piece of Beethoven more great. The tempo changing make this very dramatic, giving you a spike of adrenaline. The subtle-ness of the violin, the power of the timpani, the pace of the flute, the broad-ness of the trumpet..... it's all there. It's like love, hate, envy, greed, charity, kindness....
Truly beautiful.
for all those bitches who hate this, fuck off asses.
@connorross123 Lady Gaga works for the CIA, the reason why she shows up on every type of musical classifications are to destroy the ethics and musical tastes of other nations, as for us blessed Americans, pay no heed, we can distinguish good music from the bad
Beethoven was not a HUMANIST i.e. ATHEIST of today - he was decent, intelligent, Bible believing and God trusting man. That is why, just like Newton, Leibniz, Gauss, Mozart, Bach and other most important men gave us something worthwhile.
first, all those people believed in god and the bible because there was literally no other choice. if newton, or any of the individuals you mentioned, did not believe in god they would have probably been killed. but no one else here mentioned god except you and that demonstrates you're insecurity more than anything. gtfo, we don't need a mindless religious debate here.
@lightsinthesky246 I hate to say that, but am afraid that the only demonstration here is the significant depth of your ignorance and further your lack of skills in the arts of logic. Neither Beethoven, nor his music belong to you, I therefore recommend that you first get some important skills, such as the ability to think consistently before assuming the role of a judge. I will not respond to any of your potential future messages until you demonstrate that you deserve my attention. Good bye.
@lightsinthesky246 You know, Newton and those individuals chose to read the bible instead of being forced to. There was a big issue of the study of the bible in Newton's case where he was almost forced to preach the teachings of the bible but Newton managed to get away from this duty because of his already rigorous study of it. And i only reply to this because I am as much a supporter of Newton (and others) as Beethoven.
@MsAppassionata We have to clarify our definitions to avoid confusions. However, the modern definition of Humanism is mutually exclusive with the notion for a coherent God as defined by the Bible. If by "higher power" you refer to some subset of the properties of God then for some such subsets there would be no problem for them to coexist, however since such subset of the properties of God would not be well defined, it follows that any construction of semi-god+humanism is also invalid.
@PeaceAndGloryMB P.S.- Though Beethoven believed in God, I don't think that he was a fan of organized religion. He had a very healthy distrust of authority figures of any kind and there are no reports of him attending any church services, so far as I know.
@MsAppassionata But of course, God and (organized) religion are quite opposite. Today's universities for example are churches of atheism, where free thinking and thinkers are quite unwanted entities. It is funny how the more things change the more they stay the same, as the French say. Believing in God has absolutely nothing to do with religion and has all to do with creativity, intelligence, decency, correctness and many other superlatives.
@PeaceAndGloryMB I agree with what you said about God vs. organized religion but I believe most universities nowadays are really only interested in churning out mediocre students by giving them good grades so as to please their parents and keep those dollars rolling in. I don't think that free thought of any kind is encouraged because the powers that be don't want a populace that asks too many uncomfortable questions. The same can be said about many religious institutions. As for God vs.
@PeaceAndGloryMB (continued) humanism, I believe (though I am not a Christian) in a creative force that guides the universe but I also believe that we were put here to work things out for ourselves and not use religion as a crutch or as a tool for those seeking power by brainwashing others. There are free thinkers who are atheists as well as those who believe in the divine. Be that as it may, this is not really the proper forum for this conversation but I just wanted to have my say.
@MsAppassionata I dear to suggest that Beethoven would not mind the least people discussing existential questions in a civilized manner inspired by his being and in his meta-space. Good luck in your exploration of life, be careful for (disguised) assumptions. One of those sank Titanic.
@PeaceAndGloryMB I'm not exactly sure what disguised assumptions you're referring to but I wasn't really talking about Beethoven's attitudes. I know that he probably would have loved a discussion such as this one. I was talking about other people who might be reading this and don't want the distraction of this conversation to interfere with their enjoyment of this music. Anyway, good luck and safe travels to you too. Watch out for the icebergs.

Also they might see themself as "trolling" making them feel immune to criticism due to them not being "serious" since it's the act of being first rather than the act of either liking or disliking. @Sorasfriend Music can be interpreted and played in various ways. Maybe the dislikers actually enjoy this piece, just not in the particular way this orchestra had played it in.
@Sorasfriend Music can be interpreted and played in various ways. Maybe the dislikers actually enjoy this piece, just not in the particular way this orchestra had played it in.
@Minisoaps that's very true, i love this piece and i respect beethoven's works , but in my opinion this rendition of the piece in this recording isn't one of the best ..... it's a bit sloppy, especially at the beginning.
@rollingcube The gorgeous polyphony which begins the conclusion of this piece and how the interplay between the parts makes delicious and sublime entrance into the human ear.
Amazing!!!

@Sorasfriend Music can be interpreted and played in various ways. Maybe the dislikers actually enjoy this piece, just not in the particular way this orchestra had played it in.

@Iooe99 I agree with your opinion. It is just IMPOSSIBLE to entirely dislike this piece. I think the dislike button was all about the interpretaion

@IORITZgudari Beethoven is just a stage or 2 - 3 better ;)

@Sorasfriend it might also be because those people believe the orchestra performing doesn't sound very good.

@Minisoaps that's very true, i love this piece and i respect beethoven's works , but in my opinion this rendition of the piece in this recording isn't one of the best ..... it's a bit sloppy, especially at the beginning.

Excellent performance. Perfect tempo.
Beethoven was a present from God for us!!! By the way, he as all other geniuses who had positive contribution believed in God.

@octavianmihailescu You don't hear a play, you watch it. Unless you're blind I suppose.
Sakkura1 11 months ago
@Sakkura1 this is an overture. it's symphonic music. and music is something you "hear". I don't care about the play itself.
octavianmihailescu 11 months ago
@octavianmihailescu This is not Egmont, it is the overture to Egmont.

My favorite of all of Beethoven's individual compositions. It has an optimism that is not typical of the composer.
