  • shivers!!

  • Maybe you'll be surprised, but when he spoke Schipa retained the typical accent of his city, Lecce, but when he sang his diction was perfect, it was Italian or Spanish.

  • Fabulous. 'Old' often means 'the best'.

Listen also to his materpiece called 'Nina', no version is equal.

Still Julio Iglesias' Tangos are also masterpieces.

  • Great! Thank you for posting this..

  • El Dottore Matos Rodrigues! Muchas Gracias!

  • Fantastic!

  • what a voice...schipa the best tenor ever lived...proud to be italian

  • The definition of the Tango Word anywhere can find´it in the "Juan D´Arienzo" Orchesta....

Shipa, one of the best tenors of history, and a great piece, 10 points for you!

  • My voice is larger, stronger, higher, prettier, BUT, this is vocal perfection. NO ONE else need record this.

  • Senor Penado, por favor check this:

    Cristian Vasile-"Zaraza"

Titi Botez-"Marcita" or "Femeia Eterna Poveste"

on YT. Tell me how you like it. Gracias.

  • Also, I listened one time to Luciano Pavarotti singing Caminito...fantastic, give me a break mate, your image is so limited. Gardel was very good, no doubt, but his voice couldn't take him too far, he couldn't bring so much fire which a great tenor can bring in a tango.

  • It´s not a question of limited vision. Gardel he is one of the founders of the tango style. Schipa he does a great job here but it´s still an opera singer singing tango.

For sure his voice was better developed than Gardel but Gardel He Is Tango.

He is, beyond any discussion, the meter after which everytango singer is mesured.

  • @enricodicapri

Right, they have two different style, anyway Schipa's technique is insuperable.

  • Fact that people don;t remember Schipa is other matter! He was a tenor, he didn't sing tango for a living, plus take into account the lack of muscial education of many nowadays. When it comes to La Cumparsita, Schipa is best!

  • I listened to Gardel for many years. He cannot compare to Schipa! Equal to Gardel were Julio Sosa and Jorge(Alfonso) Duran. Am sorry but you don't know what you're talking about!

  • "Any entertainer", Carlos Gardel???

Come to Argentina and see how many people remember Tito Schipa and how many remember Gardel!

I like very much this version, but Gardel can't be compared with any opera singer.

If we speak about tango, Carlos Gardel is the greatest!

  • I have heard both Schipa's and Gardel's renditions many times. For my taste, absolutely no one sings this Argentine classic better than the wonderful Schipa. He sings it with such passion and flair. And his phrasing and Spanish diction is flawless.Bravissimo Schipa e grazie mille maestro !

  • I couldn't agree more. Schipa's La Cumparsita is a jewel which I listen to almost every day. When it comes to this song a great artist like Tito Schipa is better than any entertainer, no matter how great this one is.

  • La Cumparsita is not an argentine clasic. Is uruguayan.

  • Best on record-IMHO. Bravo! TY.

  • Even better than Gardel's version.

    Italians ar Italians!

Do not dance in Russia, do not sing in Italy!!!

  • kozjevime:

Good, your analogy it 's so funny!!

  • No Argentine would say this.

Nobody sang this tango like Gardel,

because he sang with all the soul, not just the voice.

When you hear Schipa, you hear a great opera singer, when you hear Gardel, you hear Buenos Aires!.

  • EVEN BETTER THAN HIS OTHER VERSION ON YOU TUBE. Bravo! TY.

  • Even better than Gardel's version.

    Italians ar Italians!

Do not dance in Russia, do not sing in Italy!!!

  • the so familiar to me and famous all over the world Italian art of singing !!!! Tutte le strade conducano al Italia ....

  • Ballo molto erotico!!

  • che voce ragazzi, che melodia ci regala T.Schpa

  • triste muy triste, some times life is sad and trgic. The lyric is so real.

  • piercarlo2

I'd like to hear Tito Schipa singing Scubert Serenade. Can anyone help? Thanxyou

  • This is fantastic. A great voice for a great song. Thanks for posting.

Gracias Jurek46pin.

  • Muchas gracias vincitor for the lyrics to this great piece. When you read the lyrics as the great Schipa sings them, you see what superb diction and phrasing Schipa possessed. His superb command of Spanish surely helped his enormous popularity in the 20's and 30's at Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires. He was, without doubt, one of the finest Italian lyric tenors of all time.Bravissimo Schipa.Bellissima voce!

  • if you listen carefully he's singing with south american diction not with pure castellan one.

    Very fine.

  • Yes, he sounds more like a South American than a Spaniard here, with a slight Italian tone of course, but in actual songs from Spain like "Princesita" and "Amapola", he used what sounded like an authentic Castellano accent. "Prin-the-si-ta"...

Tang songs are mostly Argentine anyway.

Of all Italian operatic singers, Schipa was by far the best in singing Spanish and Latin American repertoire. And of course, in Italian, he was divine.

  • Hoy ya solo abandonado

a lo triste de su suerte

    ansioso espera la muerte

que bien pronto ha de llegar.

    Y entre la triste frialdad

    que lenta invade el corazón

    sintió la cruda sensación

    de su maldad.

  • Entre sombras

    se le oye respirar sufriente

al que antes de morir sonríe

porque una dulce paz le llega

    sintió que desde el cielo

    la madrecita buena

    mitigando sus penas

    sus culpas perdonó.

  • Abandonó a su viejita

    que quedó desamparada

y loco de pasión, ciego de amor

    corrió tras de su amada

    que era linda, era hechicera

    de lujuria era una flor

    que burló su querer

    hasta que se cansó

    y por otro lo dejó.

  • La cumparsa

    de miserias sin fin desfila

en torno de aquel ser enfermo

que pronto ha de morir de pena,

por eso es que en su lecho

    solloza acongojado

    recordando el pasado

    que lo hace padecer.

  • que lindo tango

  • A most fantastic clip! La Cumparsita and the Schipa voice. Something to remember. Thank you.

  • TITO SCHIPA WAS BORN IN URUGUAY!!

  • and was son of Gervasio Artigas and

    a mulata from Montevideo

  • heh! Heh!

  • Top shelf! Bravo! TY.

  • E meraviglioso! This piece is so good I find myself listening to it weekly on youtube. The superbly unique Schipa sings it perfectly.Tito certainly had a great feeling for Latin music.Great diction and phrasing.Grazie mille for this.Bravissimo Schipa!

  • Artigas died in the 1850, Schipa was born in the 1888.

  • jajajaja..I know that..I,m just kidding

because uruguaians says that everybody impor-

tant in the world..born in Uruguay..

    Salute paisano..

  • lol, I see.

    Ciao bello.

  • And that is true, the great Matos Rodriguez was born in Uruguan, so what!

  • No doubt about Matos Rodriguez...but Carlos Gardel is an uruguaian fantasy...

He was born in France there are a lot of documentation thar prove that

  • tito schipa nacio en uruguay

  • Raffaele Attilio Amedeo "Tito" Schipa nacquè a Lecce (Italy)il 27 dicembre 1888.

Sup figlio Tito Junior vive a Roma.

  • sos pinocho, tu nariz ya comenzó a crecer!!

  • Tito, the great tenore di grazia. If there was just one sinlge tenor in this world today with his taste and style then prices for opera tickets would be worth the outlay.

  • bravo Tito!

  • Again, i'm back just for listening to Schipa "La Cumparsita", No one sings it like him, ok?

  • Excellent performance by Schipa as always!

What did you mean by saying that he loved Spanish and "Creole" accents in music? Schipa loved singing lots of Spanish-language songs, but "Creole" refers to what? French influenced America? Spanish natives in Latin America?

Among Italian tenors, Schipa had by far the best feel and enunciation with good accent for Spanish music.

  • I meant - for instance - his composition (!) and performance (recorded) of the tango "Gaucho".

  • Thank you! In Argentina, "criollo" of course refers to something native, before the massive immigration of Europeans starting the late 19th century. Being a gaucho is certainly criollo!

Thanks for putting this up! If you have more Schipa singing tangos or other popular Latin classics, we all would really appreciate it. :)

  • In Argentina there are a lot of immigrants from Italy, tito was like at home in that country.

  • this is the fifth time today, unbelivable beautiful

  • Jurek46pink, BRAVO! Regards, J.

  • I can listening this tango endleslyyyy...

  • Felicitaciones por el material

  • Sensational! As good or better than any others on record!Bravo!

  • best version. very sad. i like

  • Great rendition with original lirics, can't believe what my ears listen to!! Matos Rodríguez by Schipa, this is unique. But in 1924 Gardel recorded the Contursi-Maroni "Si supieras.." and took it fame all over the world. Strange destiny for a song...

  • Strange and therefore so alluring...;-)

I tried to present it in my two different posts on this tango.

    Gracias.

  • Evvai.

  • Thanks so much for posting this!

  • Schipa will sing another tango at my channel, still tonight (my time) !

    ;-)

  • do tell...

  • This is just a part of the La Cumparsita wrote by the uruguayan musician and composer GH Matos Rodriguez on 1917 in Montevideo, Uruguay

  • Whole story may be found (and I invite EVERYBODY interested) in my commentary to the video " Tango uruguayo: 'La Cumparsita' " , where a part of original text as well as music was presented.

  • The masked parade

    of endless miseries

    promenade that sick being

that soon will die of sorrow

    That is why

    in its bed

    cries mourfully

    remembering the past

    that makes it suffer...

  • I can not get tired listening to this great vocalist on this great tango.

  • Schipa will sing - in a week time - another great tango at my channel.

    You are invited...;-)

  • Mile gracie. Thank you for posting this great voice. I just can't wait for a new one from Tito Schipa. Thanks again jurek46pink for sharing.

  • Until that moment let me invite you to some "other voices" here, at my channel.

    :-)

  • this original lyric is so wonderful as sad, so sad, compared with the other versions of it. Thank you for sharing it.

  • This is a great vocal indeed.Schipa was one of the finest light, lyric tenors of any era.His musicality, phrasing and diction were unmatched. He was very popular at the Teatro Colon opera house in Buenos Aires.Grazie mille for posting this great piece.Schipa sings this superbly.Che bella voce!

  • Thanks to you for such interesting and nice words.

  • thank you Soto, really you give us a good information about this tenor, who sings the original lyric of this great tango.

  • Thank you thank you!

  • Wonderful.

  • Fantastic!!!

  • This is my favorite, too.

  • tango is from uruguay actually

  • I DID say this in my both posts - very clearly. It is good to read commentary of the author (right upper corner).

    Thank you for the visit.

  • I love this tango. You post the best versions so one can compare. Each one has a distictive beauty. I know I repeat myself but the picture on the sheet music is just wonderful. You always match the music with the perfect visual. Thank you.

  • This is one of originals sheet and recording. Tango, as you may have noticed, is a sort of canvas for me for most of my ideas.

  • Schipa was a great performer of Spanish and Latinoamerican songs, as you point out in your comment, which is obvious when we hear this interpretation, which is a pure treat, wonderful.

  • I like it so much. That present tango trip prepered me to this reception, somehow "again", thanks.

  • One of the most beautiful versions I've ever heard, by one of the greatest tenors of all time. Thanks.

  • I was completely thrilled when I heard it again 'after the years'. Didn't remember that possessed. YTube is refreshing my memory...;-)
