  • LOVE this song...Maire's voice is a bit flat however in this, which i attribute to the sound system, maybe they can't hear themselves as they need to.

  • woo,poopy

  • Beautiful - the music just dances!

  • Have loved this song for ever!!

  • Runaway SundayAltan | Format: Audio Cassette available at Amazon

  • altan rules this song

  • I have been looking for this vertion of the song forever! its a great song even if the words in English don't make any sense

  • Saw these folks in NYC, in 96 or 97(Runaway Sunday tour, even got in for free), One of the best ones we went to out of our usual genre.

  • Sorry

    Anuna has the BEST version

  • This is a great version of this song. Fellow Donegal musicians Clannad also did a great version of this on their debut album (called 'Dúlaman).

  • @egilssaga1

It was their third album. But yeah, it was great! :)

  • Awesome song!!!!!!! Love Altan!!!!!!!

  • does anybody know a song called Dance of the celts?

I can't find nothing about that, and i have an mp3 that's called Altan - Dance of the celts, but i can't find it in Altan's discography..

    I'll post it one day

  • ouh ! a folk band with a female singer. :D !

  • yeah altan dulaman :)

  • I love this music!

  • Sorry I -1 ed your comment! I accidentally clicked the wrong hand!

  • don´t worry!

  • Don't worry, I fixed your thumbs down by putting a thumbs up, now it's even. :)

  • Wonderful song! one of my favourites, nice channel name btw ;)

  • We had the pleasure of hearing and meeting Altan last year. I love them. Great video, thanks for sharing.

  • MAIREAD loves me

  • next to the Bothys .. best band ... loved them for years .... Inverlochy with Frankie was great . Bravo .

  • I'ts pretty neat but overall Meav is soooo much better its more exciting. celtic woman version is so much better

  • It`s excellent. The best version of Dúlaman.

  • Cheers from Italy

    GREAT Altan!

  • I LOVE MAIREAD

  • Altan is actually the real deal Celtic women added the band... but you have to remember how they started which was years before the "Celtic Women" cds came out...

  • the song is about 2 familys

    both collecting other seaweed

The guys from one family wants to mary the girl from the others

but the girls parents don't like that because they find themselves to good for the boy because they have better seaweed,. thats what its all about

  • wish i had been at cambridge to hear them some friends were and they said altan were fantastic, quality band

  • and celtic womans voices and sound all around are better evn though im not irsh i know good sound so...

  • May not be an especially amazing recording but this is a read trad band, celtic woman is a gimmick

  • Celtic woman really is a gimmick. Haha my mom likes them though. You know Altan is closer to the real deal when on their CD's they list all the different titles of the folk songs that have passed down, and when they play their own instruments. :)

  • I agree. they are a gimmick. But they still are really good singers :)

  • Comment removed

  • The Celtic Woman project is a standard orchestral presentation of music. It is a genre. The CW project does a good job and the singers are good. They are also very fun to look at with the pretty dresses and lighting and easy on the eyes Celtic Women.

  • @ytsolarus In other words, it's not the real thing.

  • That's a great song! I think the song has something to do with Irish seaweed.

  • well then i'm glad it's in gaelic.

  • It doesn't have anything to do with seaweed! Dulaman is an irish word for a fool. Dulaman Gaelach = irish/gaelic fool :)It just describes this fool...

  • Seaweed from the yellow cliff, Irish seaweed, seaweed from the ocean, the best in all of Ireland

  • The very word 'Dulaman' means, literally 'seaweed.' The chorus translates: "Seaweed of the yellow cliff, Irish seaweed. Seaweed from the ocean, the best there was in Ireland."

  • I realise it's seaweed but I was told it was a methaphorical comparison in the song. The foolish person was being compared to seaweed. A song about the quality of seaweed seems quite poitless & boring... Ni miste ar scor ar bith ta me cinnte nach gael thu. Is docha nach bhfuil moran again fagtha agus nios lu aris a eisteann la gceol fein ach go raibh maith agat ar son do chuid gluaireanacht.

  • It literally means seaweed, and it is quite possibly describing fools in this song.

  • I saw these folks in NYC, about 10 yrs ago or so, great show. Quote of the night as I was walking through the lobby "sure a lot of Irish here tonight" Well no kidding dumbass.

  • Thats Gas mate...

  • Don't forget AOIFE NI FHEARRAIGH-another beautiful Irish singer. There's not enough groups that sing in Gaelic.

  • There is another light and airy version of this song which can be found here:

Putumayo Presents: Women of the World - Celtic

    11. Dúlamán - Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh (Of Altan)

    October 1995

  • they're irish!

  • lol

  • this is version is much better than the celtic woman's

  • I think so...

  • i sure dont celtic woman has more creativity

  • This is 1 of their best songs that I like!

  • good fiddler!

  • altan is unreal

  • beatiful song

  • I love this version. All the other versions suck. I used to have this version on a cd I bought from walmart. the cd was called Celtic Wonder but it was stolen and they dont seem to carry it anymore. Does anyone know where I can find this version? Like a cd or an mp3?

  • You can find it easily in emule or if you want a good cd try : Altan-Ten first years (a compilation) or Altan:Island Angel

  • Do they sell those on the internet? Where can I find their cd? Thanks for replying by the way. :)

  • what launguage is this

  • Irish gaelic

  • thx the weird thing is that it wa revealed in a dream to me last night after i answered it

  • @Donegal It is just Gaelige not Irish Gaelic

  • this song is available on a Green Linet compilation cd called 25 years of celtic music. it is also on Altans album called island angel.

the song is a childrens tune about a wandering piece of seaweed

  • or you can try with the celtic spirit of ireland on emule its'a a compilation,I'm absolutely agree with you

  • That figures that Wal Mart doesn't have it anymore. But they do have 2 isles of Mexican and Latino music. Do we see a trend here ?

  • i have that cd but it got scratch to hell rad song

  • @koollkatt1 Me too! That's how I got in to Celtic music (well, this and Celtic music) was through Celtic Wonder! I love Altan. XD

  • IRISH FOLK IS SOOO FOCKING GREAT

  • Great band, great tune, and the lady singer is so pretty.

  • Ireland GO !!

  • Altan, enya or celtic woman. Theu all such bigtime in comparison to clannad. Moya love you. You have the voice of a angel.

  • i mean clannad is better. I was a little bit tipsy and the i write faster then I can think. :)

  • i think it's "all good" so to speak. i'm a huge fan of altan. but also solas. they have the same deal goin' on. singing the ole' songs and playing the ole' tunes. they just di it a bit different...but sorry folks..i DO think think that the solas singer is a bit better...

  • Karen Casey is no longer with Solas... She is lovely though. Mairead plays the fiddle too, so that makes her better : ) Just my opinion

  • I love Altan's version of "Dulaman." Actually, I suspect the group physically can't produce a single poor song or tune. I saw Altan live a year ago and can't wait to hear them again. Thanks for posting, Donegal.

  • wow thanks 4 posting this i love it!

  • no they are not, you see, Altan are actually an original Irish Trad band, Celtic Woman are watered-down commerical crap.. This like the Clannad version is how Dulaman should be...

  • I TOTALLY AGREE! Hate the fake commercial shite

  • the Celtic Woman group are from Dublin West-Brit areas and Altan are from the true Irish cultural regions of Ireland-Gaeltacht

  • i love this song i have it on my iPod and i always hear it...... i love the Celtic Woman version better...... they are all great!!! :D

  • It is at cambridge cant remember what year though, I didnt realise there where sensible people on this website, well done everyone it is fabulous and Altan are very very good seen them a fair few times.

  • My favorite Irish band!

  • wonderful video,I love altan.

  • Excelent band,great vocalist! Go,Ireland,go!

I love both famous versions,Clannad one and this.

Greetings from the argentine irish descendents.

  • Is this them playing at the Cambridge Folk Festival in 1996???

  • It´s perfect! Altan is the best tradicional Irish band ever!!!
