  • Fix the audio dammit!

  • How could someone actually dislike this video. It doesn't really seem possible.

  • I love the last 30 seconds of this clip. It nearly makes me cry. I can't think of a more beautiful universe.

  • This makes so much more sense than all that religious crap.

  • "We are made of star stuff... we are a way for the Universe to know itself" By Carl Sagan

  • Look out guys, we got a badass over here

  • evolution is a fact bro deal with it

  • I have no problem with this theory except where did these high mass stars with the chemically enriched guts come from?

  • @joshyy1832 that's the big question isn't it. the religious just simply say "it was god" and they're done with it. and the scientific try harder to understand the origins of the universe and our existence.

  • I swear everytime this ends..

    My mind goes blank...

Then I Start my day with a smile :)

  • This concept makes religion seem small and backwards. Who would trade our real legacy for religions horrible legacy? Only the small and backward. Our roots are so much greater than we could have ever known. I'm glad science, logic and reason have been able to shine a light on it for those who can grasp it and understand the immensity of it all.

  • this is so . . . . so . . beautiful

  • universception

  • @dalektaliban LOL XD

  • @sdflksdfkfh ingorant racist.

  • I get goosebumps when i hear him talk and hear the music :)

  • "That's kinda cool" :))) You make me smile

  • this is amazing<3

  • i watch this video every morning. its an awesome way to start off the day

  • @Eyshld21sm, that's why I find it fitting he is the new host of the Cosmos remake

  • Neil deGrasse Tyson, where science and poetry become one.

  • Sagan's successor! What a brilliant man.

  • @Dvdog007 And where did you get your knowledge? From a book! Wake up you fool! YOU were told what to think and say, YOU read someone elses book. YOU are the tool of the evil powers and YOU are the one who is discrediting your own god with your foul attitude towards others. YOU are supposed to be the loving one if you really are a christian, it is YOU who must be accepting of all people and be peaceful. It is not your right to judge, UNLESS! You are being unfaithful to your god that is!

  • @SOADownsnubs Your Not Going To Enjoy HELL!!

  • @SOADownsnubs the point is if he doesn't believe the book he is perfectly able to do the experiments and make any observations himself as proof

  • @SOADownsnubs I was just wondering where you get your knowledge from? Last I heard evolution was still a theory...

  • @joshyy1832 I was just wondering where and when exactly did I mention anything about evolution being a fact? Your simply trying generalize me to bring me down but it won't work, everything that I said was justified. Nice try buddy, I can only hope that your not some religious cook trying to knock me down a peg because I understand organized religion is based off of fairytales. At least I can admit evolution is a theory, unlike the bible thumpers who blindly stick to their guns without budging.

  • @Dvdog007 is this comment a joke? No really, is it? either way I laughed.

  • @triplexinaz No my friend...You, and people like you, are the JOKE!! You make me Laugh!!

  • @Dvdog007 racist

  • @toverkleet Whats ur Point?

  • Knowing this makes matters such as money seem very insignificant.

  • Neil deGrasse Tyson:: replacing religion with spiritualism. Ugh.

  • Awesome clip. This guy is awesome.

  • I love Neil but Sagan beat him to this speech. He just did it in our generation. They're both possibly the two greatest human beings to be known.

  • We need to clone this man like a billion times and replace many assholes.

  • What we should be spreading, really, is that God, in the hands of fundamentalist Christians that are in a position of power is an extremely dangerous thing. Religion in itself, regardless of how how based in fantasy it all really is, isn't a dangerous thing. It's not a good thing, but it's not especially bad. When our political leaders become brainwashed by religion, then religion becomes very, very dangerous.

  • He was at this event in Vegas called The Amaz!ng meeting. So I wander off to the Presenter's Lounge and see him here. I sit next to him and say Hi etc. He notices my zombie shirt and we start talking about zombies

TL;DR Me and Niel DeGrasse Tyson talked about zombies.

  • @sdflksdfkfh Three words: computer-savvy bigot.

  • @sdflksdfkfh Pretty sad, dude. Go back to yer cave, butthole.

  • Testify!

  • What a badass. This is awesome.

  • It's people like Neil that help restore my faith in humanity. Such a vibrant person. If only this could be in the newspaper headlines instead of things like Casey Anthony we would be much better off.

  • I find this clip to be inspiring and beautiful, yet irrelevant to whether there is or is not a God....

  • I have the strangest boner

  • Starts slow clap...

  • @MarcoRent Follows lead... clapping slowly...and reaching crescendo..

  • The entire universe itself is like a being. One day we will learn how to be part of it.

  • @w35t51d369 Praise Allah.

  • @w35t51d369

Where is the beauty in that? There is none, unless man writes it down in a book. The words which are spoken by Neil aren't made up like religious texts, they are researched universal truths, which makes them all the more beautiful.

  • 5 people needs to go see the priest to unclog the shit in their pipes.

  • This is the man bearing the torch Sagan once carried. His eloquence and passion are second to none.

  • Did the sound mixer use a ham sandwich to sync the audio?

  • It doesn't get any better than this.

  • @FatPlus1 Majesty and meaning are both relative terms. Weather a person gives something meaning or sees majesty in something is just as or more relevant than a god doing the same.

  • @FatPlus1 oh look who crawled out of the woodwork

  • @FatPlus1 Hit the nail on the head. I've been an atheist, and the "beauty of the universe is beautiful enough and better without God" and all that is so obnoxious and untrue. Endless nothingness, atoms or not. Convinced yourself it's beautiful by some subjective human definition? Wait a few decades, you'll forget anything ever existed. Tell me how beautiful it is then. Observing beauty = appreciating genius. That is all that can make the cosmic ballet beautiful. By accident, it's meaningless.

  • @PlanetMan77 And then you hit like, thirty-five years old or something, and the lack of evidence for a god was too much for you to handle, so you found Jesus and now you'll never have to live with the thought of nothingness ever again, right?

  • @PhelanVelvel 21 years of age, not a Christian or part of any "religion", let alone a born-again or whatever. More of a gnostic with some personal revelation. But that's not even the issue! We're discussing how a neutral, accidental, wholly materialistic universe can possibly be "beautiful" when by definition it's NOTHING more than a bag of colourless, meaningless sand. But nice try, Hannibal. You clearly prefer failing to size up strangers than size up the universe, so why bother?

  • @PlanetMan77 the universe is not intrinsically beautiful or meaningful, it can only be beautiful or meaningful to an agent who perceives beauty or meaning. This agent is also a construct of instrinically meaningless matter, just one that perceives meaning. All of the bits in your computer are externally random and meaningless, and yet, your browser, an agent in the universe of your computer, can perceive meaning in some of these random bits, namely the contents of message you are now reading.

  • @FatPlus1 Let me just stop you on that first sentence (didn't read past it). Scientist are NOT "making up" anything. Rather they are trying to make sense of facts that are already there. They try to find those facts. Then try to make sense of them. No "making up of" anything.

You don't even know what science is.... it is important to know what science is before you go on criticizing anything.

  • @FatPlus1 Silly theist trying to make up a creation story that gives meaning to life. Creating a deity just so that your own insignificant lives have any semblance of meaning. There is no divine creation, only a juvenile explanation as to why we're here and why we're important because your feeble minds can't contemplate the majesty of the universe for what it is. Saying Gods put us above all else in some arrogant way to explain the complexity of reality. You have to admit, that sounds ridiculous

  • "We're in the universe, and the universe is in us"

  • So amazing. I'm watched this incredible documentary on Netflix, and was deeply touched by this.

  • A magnificent structure of obsevation. Love it.

  • truly amazing it's sad that religion puts god over everything..i guess stupidity is a price of ignorance

  • I got chills, love ya Neil

  • Neil, Carl Sagan is to you, as you are to us.

    Pime taradox? :D

  • As long as we insist on perceiving life as chemistry, we will remain primitives. Consciousness is eternal energy. There is no starting point of time, in time. There is no edge of space, in space. There is no creation without intent. Creation is consciousness and infinite.

  • This is more poetic than anything religions have to offer.

  • Look at his face. Out smart that.

  • The same awed feeling one gets from religious mysticism, yet it's all 100% true!! how about that?!

  • This makes me smile. And that doesn't happen often. Awesome.

  • Neil deGrasse Tyson will never rock you to sleep in his arms while whispering the secrets of the universe. ;_;

  • this is so beautiful! This is why we as the human race should not really give a damn about what celebs do but instead figure out what the universe is doing.. and why.

  • @KC101X

How did you get that from what he wrote? He doesn't seem to be deifying science at all.

  • WHY ISN'T THIS ON YOUTUBES FRONT PAGE!?

  • @Thingamajigs

Because most YouTubers are busy watching cat videos... *sigh*

  • Dr. Tyson is poetic, intense, easily understood and , in short, all that every good teacher should be,

  • Definitely fills me with joy! Hopefully soon those who are imprisoned by intelligent design can break apart from those beliefs and open their eyes to what the universe offers, knowledge!

  • Definitely fills me with joy! Hopefully soon those who are imprisoned by intelligent design can break apart from those beliefs and open their eyes to what the universe offers, knowledge!

  • Bar none, the greatest antidepressant ever produced.

  • the Singularity

  • Neil speaks of reality, and who needs the god idea when you have the universe. AWesome!

  • When I'm asked what it means to be a panthiest, this video is where I point them. It's beautiful.

  • Source of life remains to be defined

  • Comment removed

  • Seriously, I conceived of this concept of life before ever seeing this video. Simple fact is... everything is energy, some are just inert, others are traveling beyond the speed of time itself. Every aspect of the universe is energy regardless if it's light or the theorized dark-matter unto gravity itself.

I do enjoy Neil Degrasse Tyson, however, his narrations are but almost as good as Carl Sagan.

  • This is too deep. It cuts right into you, no matter how bad you feel, you can still feel worthwhile if you think about this.

  • Absolute truth that uplifts all of humanity, not a political class, religion, or race.

I love you all my brothers and sisters.

  • One of the simplest yet most profound explanations of who/what we are ever spoken. Easy to see his connection with Carl Sagan! :)

  • Neil deGrasse Tyson is a hero to mankind.

  • Ah, there's nothing quite as poetic as "chemically enriched guts".. ^____^

  • It's wonderful when scientific truth is also a profound philosophy with such great meaning and joy!

  • Mr Tyson.. Your words echo through out my mind daily.. They continue to inspire me as well as enlighten me.. As they will someday for my children and for my childrens children.. Thank you sir !!

  • self realized man right here

if not totally then almost, i'd bet my bottom dolloar

  • I'm not gonna lie I have to hold back tears every single time I play this video back. It's moving on a INTENSELY profound level that I don't think that even religious people can quite comprehend. It's not that it brings you to tears.. it is that it brings you to tears even if you are not easily brought to them.

  • The most brilliant words ever uttered simply for the value of their meaning.

  • Gotta love NDT. Most amazing and eye-opening 56 seconds ever.

  • This comment comes at the end of a 90min documentary. It is sublime, but you need to take it in context. That said, the last 30mins of this episode are must see tv and this clip embodies all that everyone must know.

  • Neil i love you!!!!!!!

  • there are too many people on this world who perhaps never thought of these things

    makes me sad

  • "We are in the universe and the Universe is in us"

    So beautiful, thank you Tyson

Peace and Love from southern California!

  • funny that when anyone hear this they cheer up.. just look at every single comment with thumbs up :) This guy is forever my guru, how simple and delicate he puts the truth!

  • What is says is so elegant that it rises to a self evident truth.

  • man, this is so sublime

  • I listened to this with me eyes closed and saw everything he was saying total beauty we are all one, so let me say peace to the conscience minds.

  • no not at all ~!...lol

  • this is why i dont need god it makes me wanna tear up

    it makes me smile

    i love it

  • I agree. I love this man!

  • This is what we should be spreading! Not "God sucks, fuck you religion!"

We should be spreading "Look at all this beauty!"

  • i see it but i was just saying i dont need god this man rocks!

  • @hellomate639

Your comment was 5 months ago I know, but just to let you know that is what I've been spreading to people. I sometimes let it slip that religion isn't exactly the best thing for our world, but I always say something like "Look at all of this! It's all related! And we're all a part of it!"

  • @hellomate639

No, fuck that. Religion deserves to be ridiculed. It is the only way we'll get them to convert on our side. This beauty talk is appealing to us, but they'll just think we're equally dogmatic.

  • @hellomate639 True atheists aren't saying "God sucks". That would be admitting there is a God. We say "There is no god, and here's why..."

  • @hellomate639 yeah, but god does suck... just sayin.

  • @rotcivledorot god doesn't suck....he isn't even real.

  • Right with you, every time I watch this I well up. the man has got it so right. Long live you sir!

  • Right with you, every time I watch this I well up. the man has got it so right. Long live you sir!

  • now im a christian myself but this is truly beautiful

after seein this episode on history channel, i actually walked out my front door, looked up at the sky, said thanks and marveled at the stars

what a great way to look at life

  • @jimsmith1113 dont talk on this video

  • You have to hear this high to really get it.

    Beautiful, isn't it?

  • Neil deGrasse Tyson is a great inspiration and a gentlemen and a scholar. I wish more people would just view the world this way. Maybe we'd have more peace.

  • Wow! What a great man, It's not because he speaks poetically (anybody can do that) but that his poesy is based upon truth, The Old Testicles of the Babble is poetic but it is complete crap.

  • Certain parts of the Babble are nice though. Ecclesiates for example is a great existentialist writing. But that gawd crap? Total horseshit

  • hes my hero

  • This video is why I am a naturalistic pantheist

  • Well, that's interesting, because it is why I'm a naturalistic panatheist. :)

  • I love you all.

  • Osama bin-Laden has been dead for years.

  • no thats sadam

  • LOL Funny comment. Not sure why...

  • Now he is a great man!

  • great clip

  • thanks for posting this! this 55 second segment is one of my favorite dr. tyson quotes. his "holy wars" essay is a good one too.

  • This may be one of the best videos I have seen ever.

  • Well said sir.......well said.

  • i love this guy!

  • Our existence is pretty poetic, cheers Neil.

  • This is better than any religious sermon/god crap I've ever heard.

  • @thesimpsons2345 But to me, it's the same exact thing as God(not the God from major world religions, but rather God as in the true nature of existence and reality)

  • @IndigoEric you should check out pantheism if you don't already know about it.

  • @mitubo123 That's what I loosely would consider myself!

  • @thesimpsons2345

    That's sad.

  • Tyson, Dawkins, Attenborough. Fucking marvelouss. Makes any pope look like the choirboy-buggering ignoramus he is.

  • When I first saw these 55 seconds I remember how enthralled I was, more than my reading of the bible or ANYTHING. I still fee the same way now than I did when I saw this.

  • I thank the History channel.

  • Great!

  • we think alike simpleman46, this is my favorite quote from him!

  • And people say that science is spiritual.

  • Carl Sagan didn't need music to sound epic. But still, Neil Tyson is still PRO!

  • This guy gives me goosebumps, makes me want to cry, and all at the same time makes me feel enlightened. Without a doubt the modern-day Carl Sagan.

  • I feel the same way. As a matter in fact that was exactly what i was going to enter as a comment lol.

  • This is why astrophysics should be taught to kids instead of religion (which tends to preach how we're all different from each other, and how we're all slaves of a particular unseen deity)

  • Tyson is awesome! I'm smiling too :D

  • This guy is awesome.

  • this entire 90minute documentary changed my life when i watched it almost 3 years ago and im getting my b.s. in physics in three weeks and im hopin2do astrophysics n guys like tyson and kaku r largly responsible for sparking my brain2sumthing so obvious yet i never noticed

  • That's awesome. You should write them and let them know. That's the whole reason they do this type of thing.

  • Awn, Tyson is such a sweetie. <3

  • And the sooner we, as a species, recognized this immutable fact, the sooner we can finally live with real compassion for one another. We need to stop building the arbitrary barriers that allow us to perceive supposed difference and concentrate on acknowledging that we are all related to everything around. That knowledge will set us free and give us clarity to focus on that which is truly important: everlasting life is gained through the legacy we leave behind, not in a religious belief.

  • Any person with a lick of knowledge pretaining to the universe would know that EVERYTHING in the universe is family. Humans, stars, planets, the entire universe is bound with some type of lineage. That truly should make any person feel as if they belong in this crazy universe, and feel large due to that fact.

It is Mr. Tyson who can capture anyone's interest on his knowledge of the universe, or about astrophysics for that matter, and captivate to a vast extent.
