FUCK, let me get this straight (If my own guitar test using this video is correct) ... with that bend on 21th fret .. he is getting to a 26th fret equivalent note ??? , not 24.. but 26 ?!
@infectionsman There is no fucking way I can physically pull that off my regular strat , not even If I put 0.08 strings ... This is only possible with a scalloped neck, right ?
@RaterisimoCBA I think it helps alot. but correct string height, Eb tuning, and finger placement is also important. You can scallop the 21st fret only if you dont like scallops, some players do this Chris Impelliteri for example.
@infectionsman Nice ! I didn´t know that some play with only the 21st fret scalloped, but I would mess up all the time, it would feel different and I go there a lot , I should try a scalloped guitar first, the only problem is ... I haven´t seen left handed scalloped strats out there ! haha :)
@RaterisimoCBA you wont mess up, on the final fret (21) the space is so small you will only notice the benefits of a scallop. if you have a rosewood board you can do it yourself, all you need is some masking tape to protect the metal frets, a round file and some 400 grit sandpaper. also some dunlop lemon oil. (patience is also needed)
What strings is he using, I play a strat too but and i love bending but the way yngwie bends haaaaaaahaha im sometimes scared to even attempt to reach such a high not . He must use very thin strings in order to reach that high pitch so clear
Well, he might say F#, but he is playing the Bm scale. Probably he is using the B harmonic minor scale over the Major Phrygian Chord. Would make sense.
How the crappy ass it is possible for yngwie to bend 2 and a 1/2 steps just like that when i use the same gauge strings and the same tremolo and i usually break the higher E after 1 1/2...
@larsnienbergmusic I also tune my guitar 1/2 step down. Scalloped fretboard might make bending easier, but doesn't lower the risk of breaking the string. A certain note is produced when the string is at a certain tense, so if you want to bend from C# to G, the string is always at the same tense, no matter what tune used.
@GetReide i think he said once that he uses strats with 21 frets cause he wanted to take the full potential out of those before moving on... however, i think he fell in love with them so much that he only got 1 strat with 24 frets and never uses it.
In an Interview he said that he has some 24fret custom Strats but he likes the feel of old guitars and the best sounding place for a neck pickup is the 24 fret area.
yeah, quite insane control..If you listen to it at the end while not watching it sounds EXACTLY like he just taps the high note on a fret, but he is bending it..How many people can do that?

RaterisimoCBA 5 months ago
@RaterisimoCBA yes, he bends from 21 (C) to 26 (F), he says F# in the video but his guitar is tuned 1/2 step down so it is actually in the key of F

i love a 0.08 on the high E, but it does not love me....
infectionsman 6 months ago
with 0.08 string gauge plus tuned down half step man you cant press hard on the string at all.. fucker would go out of tune...
shredfactor7 8 months ago
Man, that takes a lot fingerpower to make bends like that...and Ingway makes it look so easy!
Preludiumi 9 months ago
@Preludiumi yes and 0.08 strings tunned down a half step, and scalloped frets also helps

@JacqueShredo you're right. also too much pressure on the strings and they go sharp. playing scallop frets is hell...

just one answer to that my friend :
he's Yngwie J. Malmsteen
RobertoArceCorretjer 1 year ago
@mikkkeyman he also tunes his guitar down 1/2 step, and the scalloped fretboard makes bendings even easier

TRambo55 2 years ago 41
Yea thats why Yngwie likes Scalloped frets. They allow for bigger bends without cutting the note short which is pretty sweet.
CreatorOfChaosxx 2 years ago 3
@TRambo55 Well, he probably uses 0.9 or 0.8 so it's not that amazing. Amazing is SRV or Gary Moore. They use really heavy strings and bend a lot.
JusticieroDeLaMuerte 1 year ago
he might break the e-string if he does that too often..
victorsibarani 2 years ago
he did. type in red devil live nyc he breaks a string during the solo bending so high. hes the best
ydidntIthinkofthat 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
basically when he plays in the key of F sharp really he's playing the same thing as his previois stuff over and over again
soapy945 2 years ago
What he's really demonstrating is the huge 2 and a half step bend, which he doesn't do very often.

I ask me, why he dont play 24 fret guitars?

because he only plays old fender strats - so no 24 frets :P

RobertoArceCorretjer 9 months ago
@GetReide not even 22, but 21 frets! scalloped fretboard + 008 gauge of strings= amazing string bending.
BryanTorenn 1 month ago
Because 24 frets alters the sound of the guitar somewhat, and he wont give up his signature sound.
Hardysamnin 2 years ago 5
on a 24 fret the neck pickup is closer to the bridge, altering the sound.
