In a 1998 interview with Le Nouvel Observateur, Brzezinski recalled: "We didn't push the Russians to intervene, but we knowingly increased the probability that they would...That secret operation was an excellent idea. It had the effect of drawing the Soviets into the Afghan trap...The day that the Soviets officially crossed the border, I wrote to President Carter. We now have the opportunity of giving to the Soviet Union its Vietnam War."
Carter advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski stated "According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the mujahideen began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan, December 24, 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise." Brzezinski himself played a fundamental role in crafting U.S. policy, which, unbeknownst even to the mujahideen, was part of a larger strategy "to induce a Soviet military intervention."
thanks russia when you came to our country we really came to know the actual meaning of freedom, you gave us schools , roads tunnel more over gave us a chance to break the shuckles of trible system
So if the Russian troops have honour and WE liberally provided the Stinger missiles that killed so many of them, what does that make us, ragerule & dansterr? 8D
Soviets must have been pissed when these afghan goat herders starting showing up with US mad stinger missiles and started knocking their Hinds out of the sky.
Payback IMO for all the US troops killed in Vietnam with soviet made missiles.
"Payback IMO for all the US troops killed in Vietnam with soviet made missiles." - the fact is that US supported these Islamic Fanatics, and got 9/11 in return.
american stingers were made in the usa and if not for dem da taliban would never have kicked out the russians , made in da usa weapons are da best yo, look at dem airplanes and coptes shot down in da afghan the russian were running yo
maybe if Russia can ressurect the 1.5 million they killed, and hand us back panjdeh and merv (cities in Uzbekistan/Central Asia), we can be friends again....
I blame the 1.5 million on the US, seeing as the real reason they supplied the rebels is to bring the USSR into the conflict. It's not hard knowledge to come by.
I always feel sorry for Russian soldiers. Tehy're always the ones who suffer the most, in WWI, WWII, Afghanistan and now Chchnya. Those guys in that Hind were as heroic as the guys on Flight 93. They died fighting the same fundamentalist morons we're fighting now.
well... I agree but do you know that your goverment were supporting those "morons" and CIA was providing Stinger missiles to shot down Russian choppers? Don't be selective.
disagree.. russians were fighting american backed freedom fighters who really were invaded and treated poorly.. people we fight today are retarded dope growing/smoking/dope shooting pedophiles who only care about causing carniage for others.. BIG difference..
You're totally uneducated on the subject. The Rebels basically started fighting fellow Afghans who were part of the communist regime in power, the Americans saw this as a chance to give the USSR their "own Vietnam" and sent stingers/blowpipes and other heavy weapons - this forced the afghan government to ask the USSR for help who were reluctant at first, but in the end had to get involved.
You have no idea what you are talking about. The people you call freedom fighters are terrorists: they take away freedom from people, ban music, behead people, force women under veils, and they are the ones who did 9/11. Frankenstein effect eh? If only US did not support terrorists, there would not have been a 9/11.
The BIG difference is that YOU need it. There should be a difference in the way you think. Get to know the truth and come out of ignorance.
I think you'll find that the people you are fighting are exactly the same people the Russians were fighting some of them might be older now but just the same
wow that last bit brought chills to my spine..
